2018 - 2019 USC Transfer

@Tuttwirl I had about 60 units completed, although not all of them were USC transferable. About a 3.9 something GPA. I had a 4.0 until my spring semester messed that up. I was taking 21 units and got all A’s except for a B in a math course. I was also taking a mix of programming courses, a symbolic logic course, and a Spanish course.

@zettasyntax thanks for that! This limbo is so weird after getting an SGR. Did you feel like that 1 B was the deciding factor in your rejection? I know your major is small just like mine. Also I am at a 4 year so GE’s are so different. I’m getting worried if SGR’d applicants are getting rejected with good stats. Applying three times in one year has stressed me out to the max and a final decision would bring so much closure (at least I could write another appeal!)

Also you really think they accept half the SGR’s and reject half? I wonder how much gpa factors in as well as TTP and other circumstances… also, I was able to apply for housing and they charged me (twice ugggh). Would you say that’s a good sign towards acceptance?

It is just too hard to predict individual results…so about 9000 apply, I would guess a lot of those have fantastic stats, and about 1500 get in. People with perfect stats will be rejected because, one, there is just too many and two, that is not all they are looking for. People with perfect scores (or not) that got an SGR and didn’t get an SGR may or may not get admitted.

No one on here knows if you are the piece they need to complete the picture of the freshman class.

But my oh my, the wait is pure agony.

@Tuttwirl I called the admissions office because my SGR seemed a little weird and the girl that I spoked with was even puzzled by it. She transferred the call to my counselor and he said something like 'Yeah, I just need to see your grade in math". Given that the math grade was the only one he was interested in and that’s the only class where I didn’t get an A, yeah, I’d assume that’s the reason why I was rejected. The math course was the only math I had taken, so maybe that was also part of the reason for my rejection.

@zettasyntax Wow, it all mattered on that. I’m sure getting in the second was even sweeter. I was wondering also bc it will be 3 weeks tomorrow that I sent in my spring grades and haven’t received anything. I had all A’s this year and improved from high school to college with hard courses. Also in my major, IR, I haven’t seen anyone on here except for one that had it as their first choice major. Since it’s not as popular to apply to I feel okay. @CADREAMIN when you say it’s somewhat random when it comes to acceptance and rejection with SGR’s would you say that it can also vary on the major? IR isn’t nearly as applied to as other major at USC so I was curious if that can determine an acceptance or rejection as well. Would it be rude to contact admission before June 1st and ask about decisions. I have another college that I’d like to notify whether I’ll be taking a scholarship or not. I plan on not going anyway bc I love OOS and wouldn’t be able to transfer to the actual school until next year (it’s a long story). USC is my dream so if this year doesn’t work I’m applying again for the 4 or 5th time (I will be appealing this year though)! Also happy Memorial Day to all veterans who have served and are on this thread!!!

@Tuttwirl Major is very important but nothing you can control - they may or may not have room in a particular major. IR as in International Relations? Aside from Economics, it is one the most popular majors within Dornsife. If you have another scholarship pending, you could certainly call or email you advisor and let them know you need to inform another school and there is a scholarship on the line, but you really hope to attend USC.

It’s not like they are going to think, “Wow, we were going to accept this person, but then they asked a legitimate question, so forget them!” Now of course if you were rude or threatening…that’s different of course, but just asking a question is fine - that is what they are there for!

i’m considering making a “tips for USC transfer applicants (mainly towards SCA)” video for any future transfer students, because i feel like i have a lot of points and tips that could potentially help someone/that haven’t been really addressed in other videos :~) hehe will let ya know!

Hey, do we have to complete the “GENERAL EDUCATION GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE” thing as well before graduation?

Anyone here from the ghetto?

@CADREAMIN Yes IR= International relations. Wow I didn’t know it was popular! It seems like sociology, psychology and economics are considerably more common majors than IR. I may totally be wrong though!
Would you say that CCC’ers have an easier time transferring than some OOS or university students? Obviously it depends on year to year but it seems almost split down the middle fromcthis thread!

@Tuttwirl I somewhat questioned the popularity of sociology after I was admitted into that major over anthropology, lol. I seriously didn’t think anthropology would be more popular than sociology. I had more anthro courses completed as well, so it only made sense (to me anyway) that I would get in for anthro instead of sociology.

@woshua East LA counts right? :stuck_out_tongue:

@zettasyntax lol yeah I guess. I’m from El Monte.

@woshua I will be applying for 2019-2020. I am originally from Newark, NJ. Which is definitely the ghetto lol. But I have lived in Vegas for 3 years so I have moved up a little bit in the world :stuck_out_tongue:

Just looked again and got a Viterbi Spring request
some stats:
4-Yr in state
3.7 GPA
Electrical Engineering
Average essays

Are you a golden knights fan? @vegastransfer

@Desperatejello

I’m EE and got a viterbi SGR, too. What year are you? Hope we’re not in running for the same spot.

Admitted via mail 2 days ago, but no update on portal whatsoever, is this normal or does it indicate there is something wrong about my offer going on? Really nervous atm.

@scarletred Currently a first-year oh man I hope we arent

@uscxdxd congrats! Expect portal to update tomorrow. They changed things up and did the big results wave last Thursday and Friday rather than over the weekend. Been quiet last 3 days. So your package just went out then they headed out for the holiday weekend. Should update soon.
