@CADREAMIN HAHA, gotchu! Thank god because I’m currently taking three upper divs and will end up with a 3.3-3.4 quarter GPA.
@vegastransfer. I’d technically be a sophomore as I went to school part time last year and then just finished my first full time year. Both years were at a CC.
@csumit I’ve heard that a good amount of the TTPs that went to AUP still haven’t heard back after sending in their spring grades from SGR a little while ago
I feel like many people were probably rejected because the number of people on this thread has reduced significantly
Just don’t understand why they are having to wait so long this year. :-?
Is it possible final decisions were mailed on June 1st but not posted on portal?
SGRs explained by the admissions blog https://admissionblog.usc.edu/7387-2/:
Our notification deadline for transfer applicants is May 31st, and while most students will find out whether they have been admitted or not by that date, many applicants will receive spring grade requests. There’s a lot of speculation as to why we request spring grades (and let’s be honest, online forums are not the place to get accurate information), so let’s get to the heart of it. Why might we want to see how you did this semester?
- We want to confirm your strong college-level work. It is very common for us to request spring grades from students who are in their first year of college. USC’s academic environment is rigorous, and we want to be sure that the students we accept will be successful in their coursework here. There are many aspects of an academic record that are worthy of consideration, and we often want to see at least two semesters of college grades in order to confidently admit a student.
- You are in the process of meeting a requirement or a recommended course. USC has both a writing and a minimum math requirement for transfer students. If you are receiving a spring grade request, it is possibly because we want to confirm you have met that requirement before advancing you in the process. Furthermore, you may be taking coursework that is relevant to your major (e.g., calculus for a business major, biology for a neuroscience major), and we’re waiting on those grades to evaluate your preparation for that field of study.
- You have been showing potential, and we are hopeful that you will show improved grades. We know that the transition to college can be difficult, and sometimes students take a bit of time to get their feet under them. It is not uncommon for us to request spring grades from students who haven’t been performing at the level we’d like to see, but who we think might be stronger with another semester of coursework under their belt.
Very often, we are asked if a request for spring grades is simply a precursor to an offer of admission. If you receive a request for spring grades, it is because we do not yet have enough information to make a decision either way. Admission to USC is competitive and not just a matter of checking off boxes. While academic performance is the focus of our review, we are also looking at your writing, reviewing your academic department supplements, and assessing your fit with the selected majors. How you perform in the spring will help us make our final call, but spring grades do not dictate our decision-making process. Doing well certainly helps, but there is so much we take into consideration that it isn’t a guarantee of admission. At the end of the process, we are not only considering your preparation for USC, but also how you fit into our larger transfer class. For that reason, we aren’t able to provide admission decisions immediately after receiving your spring transcript. We require students submit their spring transcripts by June 30th for consideration. While waiting is hard (and we understand that our transfer process runs later than most), our final decisions for students will come out by mid-July. If you have any questions in the meantime, please don’t hesitate to let us know!
@NotLonelyIsland thank you for that detailed explaination of SGR. Can you perhaps clarify something for me. I never received a SGR or an admissions decision. When I check my portal is simply says I have no messages at this time. I thought everyone heard something by june 1st? (I applied to transfer as an engineering major. 4.0 GPA with a lot of community college under my belt)
@jasonspyres That’s not always the case. I did not receive any kind of admission decision by June 1st when I applied several years back. I called the admissions office and inquired about my decision, but the girl I spoke with just said that it’s the aim to have “most” decisions sent out by June 1st. A few days later (June 6th) I got my acceptance in the mail. At this point if you have no decision whatsoever, it’s perfectly reasonable for you to call and ask.
So the blog said they send SGRs to see if you can handle work, did a requirement, they don’t mean you will be admitted, and it allows them to take longer with their decision. Not seeing anything new there except posturing to take too long for decisions.
If I was TTP and/or didn’t have SGR, totally agree with @zettasyntax, I would be calling this week to see when you can expect decision and make sure app didn’t fall into hole.
@CADREAMIN Yeah it’s nothing new, but a lot of new posters are asking the same questions about SGRs so I thought that’d answer all of them thoroughly.
Ya, totally helpful @NotLonelyIsland. It’s just same ol’ same ol’ from them.
Compared with other schools, I find the dragging of their feet in the admissions process, particularly with transfers just unnecessary, but always postured like they are doing something extraordinary compared with other schools. Not. And I have a soft spot for TTPs, who are put on the weirdest of roller coasters for 12 months. If they are going to offer a program like that they should guarantee acceptance, if classes and gpa targets are hit, like other schools do, plain and simple.
I think usc simply gets a lot more applicants than most other school. At the same time they of course try to employ as few people as possible to handle everything.
Transfer stats
UCLA 21,859 applicants 5,531 admitted
USC approx 8,000 applicants 1500 admitted
USC is great in so many things, but this process isn’t one of them.
@zettasyntax right after I read your post I got an email from USC saying I will now my admissions decision very soon. Responded on a sunday… go figure @NotLonelyIsland
They have been out of town this past week over the 1st deadline, so they may be starting to work on decisions again. All you can do is wait it out.
@jasonspyres I got my acceptance on a Saturday, so stuff definitely happens on the weekend too. Getting an email on a Sunday is a little strange I guess. This cycle has definitely been strange in general though
I honestly thought USC forgot about me or something, so that’s why I called the day or two after their deadline had past. I was thinking they rejected me, but just forgot to send the letter or something, haha.
Could the USC package be coming from Riverside? I know that is quite a distance away from USC but I was just curious… I know things get shipped from other places and regional mail is different but this wait is the worst.
Update: never mind that is highly unlikely. Since I sent my spring grades in on May 7th, do you all think a decision will be comin my way soon?
gettings an SGR sucks lol. my school spring grades come out on the 24th rip…i want just my decision already
Hey guys just a heads up. I was apartment searching on usc.offcampuslisting.com and there is a scammer by the name of Derek Mark or DM. So please be aware of this, and do not send this guy money!
