@binklish Absolutely not. I thought I had a very sensible reason (having 100 units completed at CC, no longer eligible for aid at my current school, virtually no requirements to complete), but my counselor didn’t have the best reaction when I asked about it. He said something like “Being moved up to spring is not possible, so let’s not talk about that anymore”. Of course, I was very stubborn and just started to email lots of people. At one point, I even sent a letter to ex-president Nikias’ house in San Marino. I eventually got a reply, but it wasn’t from him It was from the former dean of Dornsife. I guess he probably was too busy to personally respond to such a trivial matter. In the end, there was nothing that I could do. I definitely went overboard. There is a sentence that in the admission packet for spring admits that says everyone is considered for fall enrollment, but that it happens on a case by case basis and that one cannot ask to be moved up.
It was a bit of an inconvenience. A lot of the students in my classes were also spring admits though, so that was nice at least
Edit: I actually found it. It says: “All students who accept the spring offer will be considered for any openings. These decisions will be based on the specific enrollment needs of the university, not on rankings, level of interest or wait-list order. Please do not send any supplementary information or petition. You will be considered for fall openings once you submit your intent to enroll online”.
Hey for those asking about fall enrollment while being a spring admit! I asked an admissions counselor in person last week. She told me that fall enrollment for this year was already really tight with a large freshman number. They said the case by case scenario is based off which programs need more students and can accommodate them equally. So for instance say Annenberg comm ends up needing 10 spots filled. Then they’ll look at committed spring admits and pull from the bag and offer them fall.
hope that helps! Don’t go through the hassle your counselor is likely to tell you the same thing that it is literally a near to no chance. It sucks but, theyre still a whole group of spring admits alike. Also if you’re near usc as a spring student you can still get the football tix and stuff.
I figured that enrollment is tight this year, which is crazy considering the acceptance rate dropped to 13%. It seems like some majors still have some space, but Marshall seems very full.
I wonder what the “enrollment needs” are? They have lots of international/minorities already, so I don’t know if that plays a factor. Otherwise ability to pay without aid is probably a big one.
yah they have stuff they obviously wont tell us but, we just have to take a gamble on that. It’s just like every other school in the country… money first
Anyone else waiting for a full month (or longer) for a final admission decision? This can’t be normal. Should I call? I’m getting really worried. I see people on here submit spring grades and then accepted the day after or so. The majority of them I have seen are juniors. Do you think there is any rhyme or reason when they disperse decisions? Or is it random? If it’s by the alphabet I get being at the end (last name starts with T). I feel like a need something to calm me down…
There is no reason not to call and ask. That’s too much stress for too long. See if they can tell you anything and be assured they have everything they need to make a decision.
@CADREAMIN Thanks for a quick response. This sure has been far more stressful than last year as a freshman applicant. I will call. I wasn’t sure if it was appropriate as I had called about he scholarship issue last week. I ended up not taking the scholarship in hope that USC would contact me soon. It’s USC or bust for me.
Would it be smart to just call admission (like not my counselor) my counselor has been unresponsive to both emails and phone calls since I’ve been a transfer all this year. My counselor is Samuel Williams. I have had no luck getting to him. Who should I call? Thank you again.
@zettasyntax do you remember anything about the spanish placement exam? was there passages, was it multiple choice, essays, etc? I’m trying to prep for it before I take it in about a month so that I won’t have to do the lang req there
You will hear back at some point but maybe you are right. My last name starts with Y and I haven’t heard back at all. Not even an SGR. I called them last week but they told me it is normal so just be patient lol.
@tuttwirl Yes it is ok to call admissions, particularly since counselor isn’t being responsive. Let them know that you submitted your spring grades that long ago, ask if they need anything else, and if they have an idea when you can expect a decision.
I feel weird about getting admitted for spring. I’ve taken so many units and there’s really only ONE class I could take at my CC. I feel like I’m already behind and waiting another semester isn’t ideal. I don’t know what to do…
@dwightsbeetfarm There were definitely lots of passages and a few audio clips. The listening is where I personally struggled because they only play each recording twice, so if your mind is elsewhere and you didn’t really catch everything that was said, you won’t get another chance to hear it. I’m almost positive that the exam is 100% multiple choice, but there may be an essay portion. My final exam for Spanish III and the placement exam were in the same room, so they kinda blur together for me. The typical Spanish III curriculum at the college level includes stuff like the future/conditional tense and the subjunctive, so it would be great if you covered that if you haven’t already. USC seems to have changed their choice of text when it comes to Spanish, but when I took Spanish III a lot of the vocabulary was focused on politics. The recordings I heard during the placement exam were politically themed. I want to say one talked about some education measure/initiative in South America, but I knew practically none of the words, so I was pretty lost then. I hope that helps a little.
Called just now. Side note: very nice admissions counselor. She said that they had all my info and all I had to do is wait. She said end of June or early July for an answer. I will be dead by then from all this stress. I know the answer was generic, as I have heard many variations of this. That is very late to be noticed of admission decision when I sent in my grades in early May. Maybe she’ll put something on my file indicating that I called asking? I’m honestly so defeated.
@Tuttwirl Totally get it, but better to have called than wonder if they totally forgot about you. And yes, I think it is good they know you are still interested by calling.
But the waiting is horrible for anyone still hanging, particularly if you submitted info already. Sorry for all of you still in limbo.
And TTP folks still waiting is absurd. Do not know what is up this year.
Hi Guys. Just logged back in to tell you guys about my appeal process. It’s looking like I might overturn my decision. I was brought in for a interview. Post my final decision when I receive it.
