2019-2020 USC Transfer

@fluidflea to answer your question, i have two questions for you. one, what school did you apply for, are you a business major for marshall? and second, what math class is it? if you’re a marshall applicant, i can see where that would matter greatly. if you’re not a marshall applicant, i would say it definitely depends on what type of math it is. because i know they are big on the english and math requirements here. other than that, i’m not completely sure so i would contact your admission counselor since you mentioned it isn’t a transferable class. i have a W on my transcript, but it’s just one and it’s not for a major requirement. i also included a letter of explanation for it as well so i would consider doing that if you end up withdrawing. shows initiative.

Hey guys,
I’m sure this has probably been asked before, but how do you know if you get an SGR on your portal?

My anxiety is getting the better of me, and I’m worrying that they sent me one, but I haven’t seen it.

Also, are you supposed to be able to check the status of your application, or just a bunch of green check marks by the forms that needed to be submitted.

Thanks in advance!

It just let me sign up and complete the housing application with my USC ID… no idea if this means anything. Doing it right now.

@fuhnancy It will show up on your portal and will have a red X next to it. You will also get an e-mail notification asking for one. You can only see a bunch of green checks.

Wait, if you didn’t apply for financial aid, are there still documents you have to sumbit as far as income and all that? Just confused affer reading someones comment.

@ily8853 I think the only way to check would be to look at the FAST on your portal.

@transferusc88 It just let me too for some reason

Can transfer students live in USC village or dorm?

as much as i would love the housing application to be a sign of good news, i think everyones able to access it :frowning: can more people confirm?

@itsgoingtobeokay I think you may be right. Were you?

@DDHH2017 yes im able to as well

I asked one of the staff members for Housing yesterday at admitted students day and they said village filled up

Village is full (sophomores get priority there after McCarthy it filled up in Feb). In fact, housing is full. Transfers getting housing is just luck of random spots opening up for those that got accepted and registered the earliest. You should be scoping alternatives (get familiar with other options outside of USC) and plan on not getting housing. Then just be thrilled if you do.

@Needmoreec Thank you for the clarification. Now I’m just nervous because not getting an SGR could mean a good thing or a very bad thing lmao.

@CADREAMIN Hopefully, I can get at least some kind of non-village on campus housing if admitted.

I know some of my USC sophomore friends now live off campus (very close) and the housing condition is very good.

Therefore, the off campus housing condition could be better than on campus housing and still locates very close to the campus.

I still want on-campus housing though because it creates closer community to fit in.

@CADREAMIN I thought on campus housing was guaranteed for two years? Or is that just a UC thing.

@CADREAMIN Oh I see. I want to have social life in USC tho. I lived off campus for 2 years in Penn State and it sucks… Do you think USC is social for off campus housing?

Nevrmind, I found an answer. Straight from USC’s housing website: “While USC Housing strives to offer university housing to as many transferring undergraduates as possible, our large returning student population and limited space prevents us from guaranteeing housing to transfers.”

That sucks.

EDIT: Here’s an article by the Daily Trojan about it. http://dailytrojan.com/projects/sp18/housing/transfer.html

@transferusc88 @itsgoingtobeokay Are you guys talking about using your usc id, and the having it work when you click “forgot password” or when you click register. Because I think everyone can register, but being able to click “forgot password” is usually the sign that you’re acceptance has already been sent out.

Yes, the only ones guaranteed two years are those that lived in USC housing as freshman. So just saying, I would start looking into off campus options to get familiar with the lay of the land. Gateway is a giant community as close to on campus as you can get, super convenient. Places are pricey. And leases at most places off campus are only done on 12 month basis. Or you can do 9 at somewhere like Gateway, but then you pay more per month to do that. So just be getting familiar with what is do-able and rates, by checking out things on line. Housing can be a struggle as the article above says.
