2019-2020 USC Transfer

@atldreamer4 I think there quite a bit students having to do a decision for other schools by May 1st and they have to pay just to secure the spot Incase the worse happens, which make the student quite exhausted just to wait for one school/dream school. For example, I have to pay $1k for one of my school enrollment deposit.

While I do believe your point is valid but there are other factors like family, financial, personal plan that are casing the student to be more exhausted waiting for a decision.

All the best everyone!

@atldreamer4 yeah, I just don’t understand how they could make students wait till AFTER the SIR deadline for all the UCs. I get that they are a fancy dancy private school and don’t wanna be like everyone else, but cmon work with us here haha.

most top colleges release after the UC SIR deadline which is hella annoying

@rish68 Just SIR the best one you got accepted so far then. The worst case is that you will lose some money, but it’s worth it if you get into better ones.

But yeah, the waiting is quite long.

I am apply as a sophomore from community college. Today they send me email request for high school transcript. I think they should ask for Spring grade update instead. My spring term will finish in May. Do you guys think I will receive SGR in May?

@Trashception I was really bitter about that. I was so immature back then. I committed to UCLA and after my USC acceptance (spring admit), I started to wonder if I really wanted to go to USC after they made me wait nearly a week longer than they promised non-SGR applicants. I decided to commit to USC as well and see how I felt down the line/just in case. I made a deposit on housing at UCLA and went to orientation. I had a really bad time at transfer orientation and it was almost like fate/destiny that I received an email the next morning from my future advisor at USC talking about a brand new major - so new, it wasn’t even in the brochure. It just so happened to be my dream major, so I took a leap of faith and withdrew from UCLA and decided to wait for USC. Growing up, I always pictured myself at UCLA. I fell in love with the school after I visit when I was about 14 years old. It’s crazy that things worked out. Anyway, yeah, with USC you can wait such a long time and it sucks that you might lose out on money during that wait.

Hi I unexpectedly got a SGR from USC ( I was honestly thinking I would get a flat our rejection because I got an A, B, C last quarter) but anyways I received an SGR and I have really been trying to do well this semester but I might end up getting a B in one out of my five classes at my CC. Would they significantly lower my chances of getting into USC? I know this is a dumb question to ask but any input helps! Thank you all very much and I hope to see everyone else at USC. I am a TTP, I guess that is what saved me? Thank you, again!!

Does anyone have an idea for when Marshall students will receive a decision? I’m considering to SIR to a UC since USC releases decisions so late but USC has always been a dream. IDK what to do :frowning:

@zettasyntax May I ask where did you live for housing starting the Spring semester that you went? I applied to on-campus housing yesterday but I am not sure if I can get it. I applied to housing in Village and Webb Tower.

@zettasyntax Do you hate USC’s orientation or UCLA’s orientation? I have heard from my friend who transferred to USC last year that USC transfer orientation did a great job in helping transfers to fit in.

I just wish USC transfers can be guaranteed housing and that would be nice!

@sagaciousforever I chose to just live at home and commute. UCLA was a bit far from where I live, so I was willing to live on-campus to attend. I’m super close to USC. Oh, the Village was crazy my last semester as a student and it wasn’t even open yet. I recall this one girl that applied for some job that had the perk of Village housing. I imagine it’s even crazier now, so the Village might be extremely difficult/not something that many should count on. But you could get lucky. I’m not super familiar with housing though since I never experienced it firsthand.

It was UCLA’s orientation that gave me a bad time. I honestly think I was just really unlucky that day. Everything seemed to go wrong for me. I left on the verge of tears. It was really that bad for me. I was lucky that I clicked so well with USC. I loved their transfer orientation. I was so happy by the end of the day. They did a fantastic job of making me feel welcome.

@zettasyntax That’s good to hear!

I have a question that maybe should be asked later. I am wondering if attending the transfer orientation in August will put me (if admitted) in disadvantage compare to those who attend the July orientation.

How hard is getting USC classes for rising junior transfers?

My worry is about class registration in terms of getting the classes that I want. Will attending the August orientation deter me from getting all my classes? I probably won’t be in LA in July.

@lolallama23 I would SIR, defer your deposit (if possible…I was able to), and play the waiting game. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst. It’s out of our hands right now, but try not to give up hope!

Hey gang, How are y’all?

Quick question: I just received my Spring grades, but I haven’t received an SGR or any decision… do you think it is advantageous to send my spring grades now to expedite the process?

Always good to send them in, shows interest and being pro-active is a positive.

@Trashception tbh that would be kinda dumb lol just stick it out and I’m sure you’ll get in, stay confident!!!

@sagaciousforever That was one of the biggest differences between the USC and UCLA orientation experience for me. I had such a hard time getting the classes I wanted at UCLA. Not the case at USC. I had total freedom and got into every single course that I wanted. USC does set aside a certain number of spots every transfer session for things like GEs and some major courses, so there’s really not that much of a disadvantage. Yeah, I guess there’s a possibility that earlier sessions might be better just in case there was a certain GE you really wanted to take but it hits capacity before then, but I honestly don’t believe you’ll have trouble getting into classes and having a nice full-time schedule. You may not always get the class at a time you want (I never was a fan of my 8AM classes), but you pretty much always get the class you need.

Going back to the USPS Informed Delivery, I just received my acceptance for UCSD today, and it was labeled as “a mailpiece for which we do not currently have an image that is included in Yesterday’s mail.” I am assuming that USC does the exact same thing.

@sagaciousforever That one I can (kinda) answer because my boyfriend chose to go to the orientation a month later (he had finals at his CC, because he got in for Spring semester). He told me that a lot of the classes filled up but there were still some available for him. I know he didn’t get into a few classes, but it seemed those were mainly the GE courses. The courses for your major seem to have plenty of room. Not fully sure about that though, I just know it filled up pretty quick for the GEs from what he explained to me. I remember because he was frustrated that he had to take an 8:00 AM lol. If you can, I suggest everyone who gets in tries their best to go to the earliest orientation because you register then.
