@GoodAfternoonSir That sounds so fun to make a thread and get to know each other on campus I love that idea
@transferusc88 @GoodAfternoonSir I encourage doing that when all of us get the final decision.
@sagaciousforever We’ve known and talked to each other for a couple months I believe on College Confidential. We should work together at USC for sure if we get in and become the best students!
Hey guys what are the odds of me receiving an SGR?
I’m taking a total of 29 units this semester (10 classes) and I have completed Calc 2 and HUM 300 with an A. So 7 units are done. I’ve sent them those grades about a month ago so they have them. I’ve got 8 classes left but I’m expected to receive straight A’s in them too. My semester ends on May 20th and all grades will be inputted by May 27th. I’ll send my final official transcript with those grades on the 27th too.
So, what do you think? After this semester with all A’s I’ll have a 3.86 Final GPA.
it sounds a very good idea to fit all of us into a group making friends, rising junior marshall applicant here as well
@GoodAfternoonSir in past threads, some people who’ve taken lots of classes equating to 15 units plus per term, have received SGRs or phone calls from their counselors to verify. You might get an SGR or you might not but that case load would peak/spike interest in my opinion.
After reading the past 40ish posts or so, I think we should just ban “What are my chances of getting in?/recieving a SGR?” posts. There is not one person on this thread that has any clue of who or why someone gets in or gets rejected since none of us are AOs. I understand people want to feel validated but the only thing those posts do is provide a fake sense of security cause no one here wants to tell anyone else that they dont have a good shot of getting in. Thoughts?
I have a good question! Who’s excited for the summer???
@rish68 Agreed! There’s really no point
only if I get into USC @tmsavage
@rish68 Personally, I believe that it’s perfectly fine to ask whether I might receive an SGR or not from you guys because in my case, it’s a question that requires some insight. Now I totally get the whole “chance me” that College Confidential is known for and I agree with you how it is pointless at this stage in the admissions process since we’re going to receive our decisions anytime starting tomorrow and there’s nothing we can do to"increase our chances" at this point. But I just wanted to have an idea of my current situation that’s all, I don’t mind if you guys are admission officers or not.
Also remember, on College Confidential all posts should be taken with a grain of salt anyway so there’s nothing to be worried about. It’s actually kinda refreshing checking out people’s unique experiences and stats. In the beginning of my college career I just randomly saw someone’s impressive stats on college confidential and I was like “whoa, I want to be like that guy”, that inspired me to push myself to my own limits and evaluate my own inner potential.
@rish68 agreed. i was shocked to see my SGR and if i had asked for someone to “chance me” i bet they would have told me i had a good shot at a straight up admission w/ no SGR. sooooo with that being said it is such a weird process that I will never understand
@GoodAfternoonSir Yeah I gotta say the chancing thing needs to stop but I’ll agree with you about the SGR question. SGRs are just confusing in general and people want to see a pattern so I get that and agree with you there. To your SGR question, yes, I really think you will get an SGR because you are taking so many units. Who knows though right?
One thing that confuses me is that USC has said before (to me at least) that there are no requirements for admission as a whole (other than the ones for the certain schools, like Calc for Marshall for example), yet they basically require Math and English to be done? For all majors? Like I’m in stats right now as an Annenberg applicant and I already know they’re most likely gonna ask me for an SGR to see that grade. Am I misinterpreting something? Maybe Math and English ARE required? I mean obviously what’s done is done, I finished English 101 and 103 anyway, but I just am not understanding what they want lol. @CADREAMIN maybe a question for you?
@transferusc88 Yeah I agree, chance me’s should be used as a way to BUILD your academic credentials rather than simply evaluating them alone. In other words, they are relevant a few months before you submit your apps so you can get some helpful advice you may need to improve your profile and therefore your chances. It’s a tool when properly used before application season but obsolete after that.
Yeah, even though I sent my A in calc 2 I still expect them to give me an SGR with all the units. If that’s the case it would be cool to kinda send them on May 29th so that when I send my final official transcript on 27th with my grades and it’s processed in by the 29th, they might be like “oh wait this guy already gave us everything there’s no point giving an SGR let’s admit him!” Haha this is one of my hopeful ideas. I really don’t want to get a decision by my birthday to be honest as the availability for housing is crazy as I’ve heard.
@GoodAfternoonSir For your sake, I hope you don’t get an SGR because those take FOREVER to process I’ve heard. I’ll probably be right there with you though if it makes you feel any better lol. I KNOW my SGR request is coming soon.
Personally I haven’t heard back since I applied. I’m mortified but I know some people on here feel comfort when they receive their SGR because it’s not a flat out rejection or acceptance. Just means the school needs to process more info before a decision. I think I was less nervous when I went through military boot camp than this.
I can’t believe that there’s two years left for me to graduate college. It feels like yesterday when I was wearing my simple uniform at elementary school and always going to the library to read dinosaur books lol. Man time flies fast…
I don’t mean to freak anyone out (really!!) but, I’ve heard that getting a request for Spring Grades is basically like being waitlisted. Is this true?
@FemmeFilmFatale Eh, not really. They just want to see your Spring grades before making a decision. You’re not entirely in if you get an SGR but you’re not entirely out either… it’s kinda like they’re putting a pause(?) on your application until they get your grades, I guess? Idk any other way to put it lol
