2019-2020 USC Transfer

@gonnatranser how did you find out who your counselor is?

@okurrr I haven’t received one. Major is TV and Film Production.

@whostolemycookie https://admission.usc.edu/find-your-counselor/

@Busiadminstrator thank you! Is it too late to try to build a relationship with them? i meant to send him a thank you note back in feb but i kept forgetting lol

@Prlewis9 Yeah, I hate to say it but I’d say it definitely is gonna hurt you. Business Calc is a major pre-req for Marshall. Was Marshall your first choice school? I don’t see where you wouldn’t be considered for Dornsife still though. USC is very different with their admissions process so I’m not sure what will happen. Best of luck to you!

@transferusc88 the way that she connected the 2 is that, basically, it’s way for them to take more time and also not leave people in the dark… so it allows them to basically extend their deadline for releasing people’s decisions, but still gives us (the applicants) the sense that their application isn’t just sitting untouched in the admissions office.
Everything is just different this year due to the fact that USC is under a lot of pressure. So I’m sure it also has something to do with being extra thorough

@whostolemycookie originally, back in ~February, I looked on the USC website and it told me it was one person. Then when I called today to ask about SGRs and other stuff, they told me that I had been reassigned and I should be emailing g a DIFFERENT person for questions/ building my connection.

@gonnatranser Gotcha! So basically it just gives them more time. That makes sense. Thanks for that clarification!

I’m a marshall applicant but im not taking business calc because i took calc 1 and 2

So “My counselor” will read my essays and common app? I never contacted with my counselor lol

@blmcali99 I called mine once because I had questions about articulation agreements since my CC doesn’t have one with USC and I never got a call back, lol

@FemmeFilmFatale Oof. That sucks.

@gonnatranser my admissions counselor got switched last minute too! I spent a year or so building a relationship with her and then this year she stopped working for USC admissions. My new counselor has still been super helpful though; has responded to my email promptly and politely, etc. which I think is the most important part of it. I’m just hoping she left him a note for applications to look out for. But even though a relationship with our counselor can help give you a slight edge (they understand why you didn’t take certain classes, what your situation is), I do think your application should be able to speak for itself with or without that relationship. It will only take you so far.

@atldreamer4 yeah very true! just annoying bc would’ve been nice to at least know about the switch.

@atldreamer4 How did you find out that your counselor got switched?

I sent my counselor an email on monday morning and he has still not responded yet. My email was about an update on my spring grades. I was not asked for SGR, but I sent them anyways since I want to hear back sooner.

At this point, admission counselors must be very busy and overwhelmed.

@neilsola What UCs did you get in? If remembered correctly, I think you have already gotten into UCLA or UCB?

@gonnatranser Nice! I also got into UCSD (International Business) and I was kind of shocked because I did not complete all the prereqs. I missed UC’s second english class, Calculus 2, and Calculus 3.

My priority now: USC, Pepperdine (current school), UCSD.

UCSD is great but it is a public school so that means lack of resources/help and more competition.

@sagaciousforever I had a question and wanted to double check that I had the right email for my old counselor (which is weird because it would obviously the same as the email I’d been contacting). When I searched for who my counselor was, a completely different name popped up. When I searched the names of the admissions officers, my old counselor wasn’t listed anymore :frowning:

@atldreamer4 I am sorry to hear that.

I just checked mine and my counselor is the same, but he is probably very busy now so I won’t send the email again.

There are a couple times that I waited patiently for 3 to 5 business days and he responded. I am pretty sure he received it but just doesn’t have the time to reply.

So far I have not gotten a SGR, so I am just praying that I am part of the first wave of admissions at this point. Please God please lol
