@Tuttwirl so what does a non traditional student path mean? Is it a good thing? I’m just stressed naturally seeing others get SGR and not hearing anything about mine cause I have the last math semester to do I just wonder what will happen to me. I might get another 4.0 though this semester also.
@USCAAA nontraditional means alot of things. Either you had s bad gpa and upward trend or another person i know who transferred was going back to school. So nontraditional may have been the wrong word. My bad.
@USCAAA I really wouldn’t stress about others and their SGR’s or not. you’re a junior applicant the chances of an SGR will not be as high because you have a transcript with more than one completed semester on. If I could guess anything, you’ll maybe find out in the coming month, probably no SGR. But theres a chance they will ask especially if you are working on a major course pre rec!!
@Tuttwirl ohh okay I gotchu. So is the upward trend really going to help me cause I haven’t received a grade lower than an A since a year and a half ago. What are my chances you think now? And why you think I haven’t gotten a SGR? I’m sorry for all the questions it’s just you went through this last year and your input means a lot to me.
@USCAAA I can’t say for sure and would hate to tell you something and the other happen. You have a compelling story and good grades to follow. I wouldn’t stress. Be prepared for a no but expect a yes. I was a freshman reject who tried twice after to get in, and though it was frustrating getting the acceptance was the most rewarding feeling because i knew i earned it.
@Tuttwirl i freak out whenever a classmate at my cc will say “omg I got the sgr” and im like coughhhhhhhhhhh
It’S oKaY, I’m OkAy…
@Tuttwirl okay thank you so much I appreciate your input I feel a lot better. But last question Tuttwirl why haven’t I gotten a SGR you think?
Most transfers hear before May 31st, not June and July, although several do hear back then. The majority of acceptances will be between now and May 31. A large amount will be rejected the end of May. Those hearing in June/July are the ones receiving SGRs. Some get SGRs in late May. As has been said many times here, an SGR is not necessarily a good thing, a straight up acceptance is the best. Many with SGRs will be rejected as well, even some that post great grades or even a 4.0. There are only so many seats. Second choice majors for juniors and frankly transfers are unlikely. You don’t have enough time to move around.
Upward trends or even a 4.0s don’t always matter - there are simply not enough spots for those that apply. This isn’t a public school, they don’t have to accept someone because they have this gpa or come from a certain school. It’s simple supply demand and it’s holistic. It is not one size fits all.
@blueskies2day thank you for the input and the information it clarifies a lot for me. I’m different with my situation what do you think will happen to me?
WHICH ONE DO I CHOOSE??
UCLA BusEcon vs. UC Berkeley Econ vs. USC Business Admin
This is just so overwhelming…
BERKELEYYY @lizzyyykkk
@USCAAA @heyigotnoclue I get being nervous. I got an SGR on April 28th 2018 and heard back June 12th. It was the worst six weeks ever!! My SGR was because my transcript only showed one semester of college courses completed. Sent in my spring grades May 7th when they posted. SGR for students like myself at the time are due to the lack of college classes taken. They wanted to see my spring grades.
@Tuttwirl I see. Tutt how many units did you have total and how many semesters did you complete and were you only a freshman?
@lizzyyykkk what were your stats and units you took? And were you a freshman sophomore or junior?
@lizzyyykkk you’d have to really think about it. Think of where you think you’d best fit in. I’d hate for you to make a decision based on a college forum, but here are some things to take into consideration:
-both are very good schools
- what do you want to do with your Econ degree? (If you want to work in the tech space, definitely consider Berkeley)
-what are your preferences in terms of environment? (Do you like cooler weather like SF, or warmer SoCal?)
-is money a factor? (If so, think about how you’re going to be paying for school and if that makes a difference)
-what do YOU want? (I chose to go to a school that my parents wanted me to go to, rather than a school I personally wanted to go to…that prolonged my education).
I am confident you will thrive in both places, and don’t want anyone to be the deciding factor other than yourself.
@USCAAA I transferred with 30 completed units (the minimum amount) Only 26 were accepted. I had completed 2 semesters at my previous institution. I came in my sophomore years (Technically a second semester freshman unit wise)
@Tuttwirl what was your gpa? Tutt I hope I have a good chance you made me feel a lot better with your posts talking about my situation and you thinking I might get admitted this semester we no SGR but a possible chance only for it. The usc YouTube videos explain my situation exactly to point and they like those candidates they said because they shown upward trend and proven themselves so that’s good also.
@USCAAA My transfer gpa was a 3.97 (all A+ and A-) I believe you’ll be just fine! Didn’t have this reassurance when transferring last year, so anytime feel free to ask me questions! I also applied as a freshman so on my application there were letters of recommendation from my first round applying as well (it was on my submitted document page) I don’t want to give you false hope, but your passion and eagerness to come here are good qualities. My transferring decision was USC or bust. If i did not get it I was going to apply again for a third time.
hey @jessephan
@Tuttwirl that’s a really good gpa! Do you think though Tutt I can be admitted even with the math in progress?
