@bananahrr I am still waiting on financial aid. I had all of the required documents submitted in February, so I will call the office if I do not hear anything by Wednesday. I am just hoping to get my summary and not a request for additional documents…
@CADREAMIN Hi! Do you have any idea when SCA applicants will hear back? I know they are usually one of the last ones to hear back…
SCA tends to be around same time as Viterbi. May 16th-ish. But just a guess based on last few years. Certainly May 20-25th range a lot will drop. I’ve been asked about Price and other smaller programs, I would set sights on after the 16th too. Hope for earlier but I think they tend to be in that last wave when they are cleaning shop and getting most decisions out there. But they are in charge, this is just best guess.
hey @okurrr im transferring for SCA too, I think mid May is when they normally let us know
@vegastransfer Same here! Hopefully we’ll hear back ASAP.
Maybe Viterbi will be tonight
have a question about keeping in contact with the counselor. I know it’s too late at this point, but I didn’t really email my counselor that much because I figured out everything I needed on my own and did not feel like it was necessary to bombard her with questions and annoy her. Would that hurt my chance (I know nobody can really tell unless you’re the admissions officer) because I didn’t keep in contact? Thank you I’m so dreading this wait like everyone else here
@chlduwls according to a usc blog post dated a few years back, their official stance is that they do not track demonstrated interest so it should be fine
@chlduwls I don;t think it will hurt you at all. Your application will (or at least it should) speak for itself. In my opinion, it’s only /really/ helpful for those that have certain discrepancies in their transcript (W’s, a low grade in a certain class, not being enrolled full time), because talking to your counselor about them ahead of time lets them know an exact explanation for this situation and also shows that you were thinking about USC when these problems arised
Have there been a lot of Marshall acceptances already?
@chlduwls The year I got rejected, I talked to my counselor quite a bit. I even let him know that he mistakenly sent me an email intended for financial aid, lol. Apparently, he himself received something by mistake (a student’s parent’s tax forms) and tried to let the department know, but somehow I got CC’d as well. Probably an auto-suggest/auto-complete thing when typing the email address.
I don’t think the impact is significant.
Bingo. Balance is key and you handled it perfectly. Smart questions and concerns ok, but just sending email after email to force a relationship implies you are just sucking up and/or will need your hand held in college too. That is not what they are looking for and yes, that could go against you. Don’t be annoying - that is key!
Hope that there will be another wave of Marshall acceptances this week (hopefully today)!
I got nothing today… I’m going to LA this weekend so it would be great to get a decision by then (Dornsife and Marshall Applicant)
I got nothing either. :T
Nothing yet. Let’s hope for tomorrow.
I visited USC admission office today and here are some useful information+advices:
-
The transfer decision is slower this year because of the college scandal.
-
USC practices rolling admission so the timing (how quickly/early you receive a decision) does not indicate how competitive you are. You might be a strong applicant but still have not heard anything back because your application is still under review.
-
For USC Marshall, transfer admission only focuses on grades and your essay. It does not consider your experiences (internship and work). This is quite shocking to me as I thought that quality internship and work experiences would help.
-
There might be another wave of acceptances this week (They could not tell me the exact answer).
-
USC favors upward trend a lot. If you show consistent (at least two semesters) of strong academic performance, you will not be rejected easily. They will consider your candidacy (Fall/Spring admit) carefully.
-
As soon as your get your final spring grades, upload your unofficial transcript directly to the portal. This will help to speed up the final decision date significantly. Do not wait until USC to ask you because that could postpone the final decision to June or July. USC only promises an acceptance, rejection, or SGR by June 1st.
In my case, I did not get an SGR but still uploaded my spring grades on the portal at the end of April. According to the admission office, I should receive a final decision (acceptance or rejection) by June 1st.
Fight on!
@sagaciousforever So are you saying that everyone should send in spring grades even if they did not (or potentially never get) an SGR?
@AFutureStudent Yes, you should. Don’t wait because the waiting will just get longer.
I emailed my counselor today because I was worried I forgot to put I had AP credit from high school and I also put that “my portal hasn’t been updated so I’m hoping that I’m not too late in letting you know” and he responded with a very polite email saying that I had put my AP credit and he also said that “we’re just waiting for your spring grades before we make a final decision on your application.” So…I got a SGR but my portal hasn’t updated to a SGR request. I’m taking it as a good sign???
