Hey guys, another question regarding my SGR. I understand that sending in strong grades is important, however, I’m still trying to make my application stand out a little more. I was unable to ask for LORs from my professors my previous semester because I didn’t really have time to build a connection with them.
This semester, however, I have built a solid one with my Calc 2 professor. She’s probably the most difficult professor on my campus and more than 50% have dropped her class, or are failing. Thankfully, I’m on the road to getting an A. She knows that I’ve sent in my application, but do you think it would mean anything to my admissions counselor if she explained my standing in her class and my performance in the course overall through a quick e-mail?
@goldeneagle220 I envy you… You basically got your decision way ahead of the time when you were supposed to. Now you probably have motivation to get a 4.0 this semester so you can get admitted from the SGR group.
Hey guys. So it turns out my college counselor is on maternity leave. I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a way to know if I can contact another admissions counselor if I’m stuck without one for now
@asn009 try reaching out to the admission email/ phone. the general one. usc.edu → admissions. I honestly would not reach out unless its seriously important. IK Admissions in general do not like people spamming them with calls.
@sagaciousforever I agree with number 6. I was happy to send/upload new grades as they became available such as my winter intersession grades. How can more grades/info be a bad thing? My spring semester ended terribly late though, so there was no possible way for me to upload them before June 1st. My semester ended around June 9th, if I recall (like 5 years ago, haha). I sent my grades the second they were posted and it probably took about a month before I heard about my rejection. Some SGR people are lucky and can hear back the same week. Others might have to wait two weeks. Others a month. So yup, definitely send in those spring grades to get ahead of a possible SGR
(Although, I guess it’s always possible they could have easily rejected me before my semester finished, but I received an SGR on April 23rd that year, so my rejection had to wait).
No ownership of all the incorrect info posted earlier?
There were so many posts that they pick the strongest first, which many knew was not true.
I am sincerely trying to be helpful because the need to be an expert without knowledge or experience is not a good trait to carry forward into school or workplace while providing others with bad information.
Did you go to the Admission’s office because your advisor didn’t email you back? Why did you tell them you were there?
When can you guys register for the transfer orientation (In July and August)? If you don’t mind, can you tell me the date for this year’s August orientation?
When will you know your scholarship (merit-based) and financial aid package?
When and how will you know how many units and what classes are transferable to USC?
@blueskies2day I am sorry that I have provided inaccurate information before in this thread, but this is College Confidential. Everyone has his or her opinion and we could be wrong at times, so please don’t be so judgmental. I am trying to help others and I was wrong before. I apologize for that.
The information that I posted today was accurate as I spoke with an admission office staff. I was not making anything up. What good does it do to me?
I did not complain about my advisor. I understand that he is particularly busy at this point so it’s okay if he doesn’t get back to me. He probably saw my message so that’s what matters.
No offense but I think everyone has to right to post here.
This is College Confidential so opinions could be biased but others have their discretion to believe it or not. I am just trying to be helpful and stress less about my admission as well.
Sorry again for posting some wrong information (based on my opinion) before but I don’t think you should be so critical on what I said wrong.
@blueskies2day you freaken complain about everything man. @sagaciousforever I think the information you gave was really helpful and I appreciate it and I do believe you went to the admission office and why would he be giving false information blue. Just stop composing and thinking your so right bro so back off man. Go watch the USC videos on YouTube on their admission page and they like upward trends also buddy.
Hey everyone! Does anyone know the difference between a WGR and a SGR?
I’m at a CC on the semester system which happens to offer a winter intercession (PCC), and I received a WGR.
Does that mean I won’t receive a SGR? I’m just trying to distinguish the difference… thanks!
@sagaciousforever Thank you for your that information. Does Marshall admissions or our admissions counselor have the say in the decision? Also at a transfer day, they shared that everything is looked at from demographic information, legacy status to GPA and essays. So do you think they care about extracurriculars at all?
