@poolsideconvo78 I am worried about providing inaccurate information so I will be very modest here. This is just my opinion so believe it or not. I am not an admission officer.
Your admission counselor can speak for your admission but I think his/her influence is very small to your acceptance/rejection. However, a good impression is always good. I used “I think” because some people may criticize me again for providing wrong information to you guys lol.
Legacy matters (if your family members attended USC before). GPA and essays matter the most. I was told that Marshall doesn’t care about your work and internship experiences but extracurriculars should (I think) matter.
For transfer admission, I am sure extracurriculars matter less than freshman admission. They want to see if most of your classes are transferable and you can “fit” well into USC.
Hey guys. So it turns out my college counselor is on maternity leave. I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a way to know if I can contact another admissions counselor if I’m stuck without one for now
@sagaciousforever I will do my best to answer the questions that I can at this moment in time.
I cannot see the orientation dates until I submit the SIR. I will be happy to message you once I find out though (if no one answers beforehand).
Financial aid summaries, or a request for additional information, are supposed to be released 3 to 5 business days after an acceptance. I was accepted on Wednesday and I am still waiting on it. Hoping to hear something back in the next day or two. Transfer merit scholarship recipients will be notified sometime in early June (based off previous threads).
Transfer credit reports are made after submission of an SIR and they receive a copy of your final transcript with spring grades posted. It does not give a specific date, but it says that the report should be available before you attend orientation.
I found a website. Just google “USC Transfer Orientation” and then you will find the dates. This year, they are: July 23rd, July 26th, July 30th, and August 16. The website also shows how full each section is.
If accepted, I will probably attend the August 16th one.
@sagaciousforever Sweet! Thanks for that info. I am just waiting for my financial aid summary before I SIR. I will likely do the July 23rd orientation if the fin aid is as fat as it was at UVA.
I also wonder if Transfer Admission Counselors have an influence over our decision. If that’s the case, I would like to talk to someone at admissions more. A lot happened this semester (awesome experiences!) and I would love to share that.
Hello all, I have been following the thread for a while now and figured I should also contribute to the discussion because many of you have provided lots of interesting and helpful information. I am a rising sophomore who applied to Dornsife as a psych major and just received a SGR. Now it’s back to waiting and finishing out the semester. Good luck to all of you and fight on
@GoodAfternoonSir If you have things to share, you should send your counselor an email. They actually have a lot of influence of getting it through the gate. And if in writing, everyone evaluating gets to see as well. If you have something substantive get it to them, but no one should be forcing a conversation just to do so, that can take you down faster than anything else. Don’t ask things you should already know! You will get polite answers, but behind the scenes it may be different. While maybe it could go well, the risk is it could be an uncomfortable conversation, you can come off as desperate or just annoying rather than eager - more things can go wrong in person than writing where you have more time and control in what you communicate. They want to see confidence in your application not craziness in random conversation. So if you have something to say, write about it and express your commitment to attend - in the email.
Hope you get good news soon!
@sagaciousforever Thank you for the info! I have a question though. I’m a rising sophomore who received a SGR on May 1 and was wondering how I would be able to upload my unofficial transcript on the portal? Do I just screenshot my unofficial transcript then upload it on the portal and usc would just take that?
Hey guys, I keep seeing people saying you should upload your spring grades to your portal. Should you just take a screenshot of your grades online and submit a picture of that or what should you do?
@vegastransfer What did the financial aid calculator for USC say? I believe mine said something like the COA being ~15K and my financial aid offer was pretty close to that. My EFC was 0. They covered pretty much my entire tuition, but stuck me with housing costs and other miscellaneous costs such as health insurance. From what I understand, it’s really hard to have them cover much of anything when it comes to housing costs. When I applied for the Topping Scholarship and went to interview, one of the current scholars said that even if we got the award (typically 5K), USC would likely adjust say the university grant because they want you to pay something and that something is usually housing. I ultimately didn’t get that scholarship, so I couldn’t say for sure though. I just had to take out small loans to cover the student health insurance and decided to commute. Although coming from Nevada, I know that’s not really an option for you, haha. Anyway, probably an idea of what USC might offer you
I did not see someone asked the exact same thing right before me, I hadn’t refreshed the page haha. Should we also email our spring grades to our counselors or let them know we submitted them or just do it?
@CADREAMIN Thank you! UVA is a fantastic school and has such a beautiful campus. I remember visiting it once many years ago before moving out west and loved it there. I’m happy that I have it as a financially viable choice.
@zettasyntax My financial aid calculator said a similar figure. My FAFSA EFC is 0, but I don’t know how USC factors in the noncustodial parent. UVA meets full-need and also requires the noncustodial profile. Even with that factored in, it had little effect on my financial aid. I received $56k in gift aid, a $4k work study, and $7k in loans (COA is $67k, so they met the full COA with some loans). If USC calculates it in a similar manner to UVA, I should be okay. I could manage without the loans at USC since I already have backup plans to roommates with some friends. It would be wayyy cheaper.
I have a 3.89 GPA and Got Spring Grade Requsted for MARSHALL.
After this semester I will have 72 Units Completed. I have received an A in both accounting classes, both econ classes, and english. And for this semester I am doing Calc 1 for my Pre-Req which is why I think i got spring grade requested.
Im worried however because I have A’s in all my classes this semester except I might receive a B in calc, so if that happens i dont know how it will affect my standing with my spring grade request. Any ideas?
