2019-2020 USC Transfer

@katyamzz UCB econ and Haas are two totally different things. Haas is Berkeley’s business school which is highly ranked and nationally recognized everywhere. All of the companies go and recruit Haas students. Econ, on the other hand, is sometimes seen as the Haas rejects because the people who are not able to get into Haas go into econ. But econ at UCB is still seen as good, just not Haas good lol

@mrchicken1999 financial. my school is quarter system so two financial classes= one usc financial class. ive taken the first accounting but i had to withdraw from the second one.

I haven’t heard back yet either. I’m a sophomore at san diego state right now and have ~70 credits, a 3.7 and am in the honors college. i can’t think of any other stats to include here but like if there’s any I left out or you want to know specifically lmk lol

I can’t say for sure, but I know that if you are transferring in as a junior, they might want those accounting classes done because otherwise you won’t graduate on time. But if you are transferring in as a sophomore, you should have time fit into your schedule to take both accounting classes at USC

@GotYa55 I did get an SGR, yes. I received it April 23rd. My spring semester ended June 9th. I submitted spring grades shortly after that. Finally learned about my rejection in mid-July after midnight in the form of a rejection pdf on my portal. I ended the spring semester with 5 A’s and 1 B. The B was in a stats class.

Well in that case, I’m going to withdraw. They are taking too long and there are many applicants much more qualified than me. Goodluck everyone!

I was admitted on May 1st and just received my financial aid summary! I received enough gift aid to cover tuition with some left over to help with living expenses!!! Looks like I’m becoming a Trojan in the fall!! About to submit my SIR now. Fight on, everyone!!!

Do any of you know if it’s possible to complete a major, minor, and masters in 4 years at USC? I was doing some research and wound up at “Mapping your marshall experience” tab where you can create a schedule, and that shows that it would be possible to complete all three, but IDK if anyone has done it.

Also, do any of you know how the progressive degree program works or know anyone who tried it?

Anyone think the next wave of decisions will come out today?

@katyamzz are u deciding between Marshall and UCB Econ? I’m kind of in a similar situation and would love to hear what you think!

@vegastransfer were you a Marshall applicant? also did you receive the Financial aid in the usc fast portal? Mine still says in review. I was accepted may 1st

@Rosekk I hope so. It’s been almost a week with no decisions. They’re too quiet…

@whostolemycookie Hey! Yes! I’m torn between the two schools. I think Marshall is better. I used to be so deadset on berkeley. I didn’t even apply to haas because it was so competitive to get into and applied for Econ instead of haas which I deeply regret. I think it would be a mistake to go to berkley under Econ and pretty miserable tbh. There isn’t much support for transfers, econ majors (haas rejects they say), ride or die curves, you have to compete to declare the major. Now thinking about econ and the courses there I don’t really want to go to Cal.

Marshall is abundant in resources and #1 in SoCal, the Trojan alumini network is stronger than haas and bigger. 91k marshal alum globally. Pretty much guaranteed job placement. I’d be a fool not to choose usc. The cost about the same for me around 10k net cost. Marshall is better funded than haas. It blows Econ at Berkeley out of the water if its business that you wanna do. You’ll be left on your own to hustle if you’re econ at cal. Ucla doesn’t even have a real business school. Ucla gets the scraps left over from Marshall kids. Ultimately I think marshall is the best choice. I don’t really care for haas anymore. My friend who graduated haas is working as a financial analyst… pretty mediocre if you ask me. This just shows that haas isn’t all that. Yes they place well for investment banking and consulting but it’s the top of the top students in haas that get those. Aka even more cut throat environment.

Does anyone know how much the SIR deposit is?

@katyamzz thank you for the analysis! I just visited Cal this weekend and liked it a lot more than UCLA. I didn’t apply for Haas as well and I deeply regret it. I’m still waiting to hear back from Marshall but this really gave me a better idea. I’m personally hoping to decide between UCLA and Cal by next week and SIR in case I dont hear back from USC soon enough.
Any idea how well USC does outside of SoCal?

@goldeneagle220 The SIR deposit last year was $300—it shouldn’t have changed. Once you register for classes, that $300 is applied as tuition credit.

@transfer4maria One of the CS professors likes to boast that he got his BS and MS in 4 years  I don’t know if he also did a minor though.

As for people I actually know, he majored in dance and is going to graduate with his MPA. He does need to take a couple of summer classes, so I guess it’s a little over 4 years though. My understanding is that they sometimes do reduce the requirements of the graduate degree and not all of the degree programs are available under the progressive degree program. Also, I would have been interested in trying the program myself, but there is no masters program in linguistics, so I didn’t really ask about it.

@transfer4maria It might be possible credit-wise to complete an undergraduate major/minor and a Master’s degree in three years. However, based on course difficulty, it might not be reasonable to expect that much from yourself. Keep in mind that some upper-division classes can be brutal to take with a normal 16 units, so going well past that may be on the borderline of undoable. Maybe try to look at an extra semester or year for completing all three.

As far as the progressive degree program goes, USC extends the offer for that to exceptional undergraduate students (based on coursework, critical thinking, and departmental recommendation). It’s difficult but manageable if you really push yourself during undergraduate studies. I’m currently looking into doing a progressive degree for Cinema and Media Studies.

Hope that all makes some sense!

Hoping for a wave this week! Starting to get antsy about this wait. Wishing the best of luck to everyone for the next wave!
