@FemmeFilmFatale USC Gateway is totally safe. You get to campus by crossing the street. It is as close as you can be to campus without actually being inside it. It is all students, it actually feels like campus housing with better kitchens. It has a workout room and giant courtyard with wading pool and TVs. Next to CVS and lots of food places share the same block.
Safety was our biggest concern and why we chose it. While eventually mine lived in many different places, over the last 9 years, the first time off campus, that was the only way to go for us.
@youngtransfer There are a lot of special interest scholarships available for basically everything you can think of. Latinx, LGBT, etc. Some are open to transfers.
I really liked my interview experience for the Topping Scholarship. I was told the typical award is 5K, but it could be higher depending on your need. They are big on involvement in the community/helping others, so the Indian rivers thing sounds like it could be a big hook for them
@zettasyntax I do know these scholarships are available. Thanks for sharing the information. I wanted to know if I got the transfer scholarship. How can I check?
Hey guys. I got accepted yesterday at 6pm for Marshall as a Junior. I uploaded my spring 2019 semester grades to the portal a week ago (even though I did not get SGR). I had all A’s that semester and my counselor said I could. Just letting you guys know that it might be beneficial to do the same.
Guys, safety there is fine. Especially in the DPS zone and overall. It’s an urban area, like any other urban area. Be aware, don’t leave your laptop or phone on a table and walk away from it, don’t wander around blocks from campus alone at 4:00am, common sense stuff. Your fellow students aren’t thieves. (There are issues of stuff being taken from dorm rooms at other schools, don’t here much/anything about that happening at USC.) It’s time to grow up and learn how to handle yourselves in an environment away from home. Campus Cruiser (ride service provided by USC around campus) and free Lyft/Uber rides within a couple miles of campus are there for you when going more than a couple blocks off campus. But close to campus hundreds/thousands of students are bopping around all the time and you will feel comfortable there.
For those that haven’t already traveled away from home much before now, someday you may find yourself in NYC on a business trip by yourself and you need to know how to handle yourself. You get that at a school like USC, and learn how to navigate with thousands of others doing the same. Everyone needs to know how to ride a bus and navigate urban areas whether financially challenged or wealthy.
@zettasyntax@CADREAMIN Thanks for responding, guys! You guys are the real MVP of this forum! On the topic of Gateway, this may sound like a really stupid question… but how does roommate matching work there (or any of the other places)? I know that my old university in DC had local apartments where they did the pairing in a fashion similar to on campus housing (randoms put together and each person is responsible for their own lease). Is that a thing at USC or do people find their own roommates online?
@HeyItsNick Supposedly Gateway will help you find a room mate, and they had a survey they had you fill it, but I don’t have first hand experience with that aspect of Gateway so don’t want to vouch for how good it is. Give them a call and ask if they actually use a survey or are just filling spots, or if they have a list or something people can connect up with. There use to be a gal named Katy there that was super nice, but they have a pretty big turnover so she may be gone. But at least while you are looking at renting, they should be helpful!
I asked this a couple time before so excuse me for the repetitiveness lol but anyone from Keck get accepted. I applied as a Public Health related major in the school
@youngtransfer Oh, it would show up on your financial aid summary. They only award about 40-50 of the transfer merit scholarship though, so I wouldn’t really count on that as a sure thing. Best to explore other opportunities.
Hearing a lot of people who I know got accepted, I am kind of nervous now. I hope that I still have a chance for Fall.
I contacted USC Admission Office on Wednesday regarding update of my spring grades and they told me that they are still reviewing my application. I sent an email to them because I uploaded my spring grades to the portal without getting an SGR, so I want to let them know. Otherwise, they might not check it.
They simply replied: " We will put the document (spring grades) in your file".
@sagaciousforever Hearing all these Marshall students getting accepted is making me nervous too, especially with May coming to an end in like 2 weeks. I’m guessing I’m going to get the L from usc.
@HouseTrojan32 I think for those who haven’t heard back yet, it doesn’t mean that we are rejected or still under consideration. The admission office might not finish reviewing our files yet since there are so many applications for them to read.
I believe that the timing of rolling admission does not indicate the competitiveness of the applicants.
Let’s hope for some good news the next week or the last week of May.
