2019-2020 USC Transfer

@whereto2022 I go to Evergreen Valley College in San Jose, hby?

@transferusc88 Agreed. Now USC please hurry up with some more decisions!!

is there a discord/group chat for admitted transfers?

@aakritzz ^^ I’m curious as well.

for those who have been admitted and applied for FA. how long did it take for your FA to show up on your FAST portal?

@aakritzz there’s a fb page for admitted transfers!

@okurrr I think it took approximately a week for those who were accepted on May 1st.

Hello everyone. I got spring grade requested for this spring semester and submitted my spring grades yesterday (May 20th). When do you think spring grade requested individuals should hear back? Thanks

probably better to wait longer for a decision that you like rather than rush one that you hate.

@sagaciousforever Ms. Hays has responded to me a couple times recently. She is very attentive. I’m sure that they all are crazy busy right now.

Hello if you receive a SGR is it possible to get accepted I to USC before sending the SRG. My friend got in and he has a SGR hold that has not been sent yet

@Justkeem Well you just answered your own question.

I’ve heard similar things as @FemmeFilmFatale and @transferusc88 - granted, mostly from these forums but also from a USC MFA alum. I can only speak wrt SCA but it makes sense for all artistic programs to have this stance. In these cases, a student’s academic qualifications aren’t the primary factor in their admission. These programs seek students whose submissions showcase talents the university wants to allocate resources towards developing. Obviously, the student needs to prove themself capable of sustaining the general performance expectations of USC, but usually, their admission signifies a unique artistic ability more than a competitive academic track record. Bonus points if the student can justify their academic record through their supplemental submissions in a desirable manner.

This is why students who’ve been rejected from less-esteemed programs at other universities can be admitted to USC. SCA alum are successful. Period. Because SCA admits students who prove themselves capable of being successful beyond academia.

I applied to SCA’s Screenwriting BFA program, which had an identical application as the MFA program. It required two essays (most challenging moment and autobiographical narrative), two 2-5pg prompted scripts, a 10pg max. creative writing sample (script format not required), three rec. letters, and a creative portfolio list. I was concerned about the level of vulnerability expressed throughout my application until my mentor assured me the way I conveyed experiences would read well.

Ironically, I’m concerned I will be rejected because of my absolute garbage GPA. Despite earning all A’s and one C over the past three semesters, I’m worried my record prior to taking time off from school will be too poor to salvage at USC. I guess that will depend on which courses transfer but I’m not feeling very optimistic. Why would I be admitted to a BFA program that will take four years to complete when I could earn a BA in two at another institution and complete an MFA at USC in two more? Personally, I’d prefer to be admitted as an undergrad because I have yet to receive a ‘proper’ undergrad experience and feel the environment will be more conducive to where I’m at in life right now.

At this time, idk what’s going to happen - but I can say that merely composing my supplemental application made me a better writer. I hope to be granted the opportunity to begin learning at USC this fall, but if not, it won’t be the end of the world. Hang in there everyone!

@transferme73 I totally agree with becoming a stronger writer due to the application. I wrote my essays in different perspectives (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc). I had so much fun writing the essays but, at times, they were challenging. However, i think it was worth it.

@FlashyT I don’t believe that there’s a particular age limit to greek life so long as you’re an undergrad student. However, you are less likely to get a bid from a house the older you are (i.e. 22+). How old are you?

@whostolemycookie well to be totally honest with you tiers are quite surface and materialistic lol. Having said that, it is basically how the sorority/fraternity is ranked among other ones. For instance, DG (Delta Gamma) is considered a top sorority along with Kappa (Kappa Kappa Gamma) for factors such as wealth and looks. Likewise, fraternities like Lambda (Lambda Chi Alpha) and Sig Chi (Sigma Chi) are considered top houses for factors like quality of guys and their parties. Honestly though, it really doesn’t matter and you should just go to the sorority that you feel fits you the most. Sounds like you’ll be in Theta!

@kaimiller just wanted to see if it was mix up or something

Will we get our decision today?

@kcassuu We don’t know. It seems to be random whenever they release them. Someone said they appear to prefer Wed’s and Fri’s. I’d prefer sooner than later though.

@Justkeem

Honestly, who knows at this point. A few people have had their SGR removed from the portal. This could just be an error or an indication of a decision. I have no clue and my opinion is just speculation. Normally, that’s highly unlikely to occur but the scandal has caused this year to be different from years past. So Im sure it is possible. Nothing is preventing USC from doing that.
