2019-2020 USC Transfer

Rejected from Annenberg. 3.64 GPA sophomore from UCLA, dad and uncle were alumni, was put in TTP when I applied as a freshman. Tons of clubs & internship experience. Guess it was just tough this year. USC was the only school I applied to. Guess I should be grateful that my fall back is UCLA? Oh well.

Is anyone else super stressed about housing? LOL

I know it is probably too late to discuss this, but my current school doesn’t offer the equivalent writing class(on articulation history it listed a class that my school no longer offers). And a while back I emailed the admission office but I ended up getting two emails with two different answers(I got two replies one saying it was okay and the other saying it was not) The one who said it was okay also told me to indicate it on my application, but I couldn’t find a place for it (probably due to the new transfer common app). So I emailed my admission counselor and she said I didn’t have to indicate anything, if my school didn’t offer the equivalence it would automatically be waived.
Now I think about this… I can’t say for sure that my rejection had nothing to do with this situation… They just gave me so many wrong answers and I just feel like they could totally mess up again while reviewing my application.
3.83 GPA computer science(game) major

Accepted today for Dornslife but for spring 2020!

@mase31 I am ultra stressed about housing!! Especially being a low-income student coming from out of state. I am really hoping to get into on campus housing. Hopefully having been admitted on May 1st boosts my chances of getting assigned something.

@vegastransfer I can’t be paying 2k for an apartment…and I don’t drive so it’s not like I can live somewhere far away  Once I transfer I’m gonna ask why transfer students aren’t guaranteed housing. ***Some of the UCs do it. I was accepted on the 17th and applied for housing on the 18th BUT UGH they stress me out

At least provide temporary housing for us like they do for international students…

No, not all UCs guarantee housing for transfer students. They guarantee for freshman applicants.

@mase31 How come you don’t drive?

Who is still waiting? Anyone Applied for Roski School of Art?

@GotYa55 Haha to save $$. And my parents are ultra protective lol

@CookieMnstr Oh my bad! *Some UCs. UCLA & UCB do guarantee housing for transfers for their first year. I’m not sure about the others!

@mase31 I was actually offered “temporary housing” as a spring admit. I didn’t like the sound of it though. I’m not sure if such a thing is extended to fall admits though since there’s a lot more of you guys.

@mase31 I can’t pay that either and I don’t drive as well. I am originally from NYC, so public transit has always been my life. I was looking into rooms close by and they seem doable. Just don’t expect to have your own space. They have student housing off campus that is similar to dorms and close to campus. You could also look into something along the metro lines in areas a bit further.

The reason why I think some of the UCs can accommodate transfers for housing is that they were mostly built in locations that allowed them to expand as needed. USC is in a very densely populated part of LA and simply doesn’t have the room to offer freshman and transfers guaranteed housing. USC struggled with freshman alone until the Village was built.

@vegastransfer I understand but it still frustrates me because they don’t even offer solutions. They just say “Welp. Figure it out.” @zettasyntax I’m a Fall admit so I don’t think that applies to me.
I have family that lives 20 minutes away but I’m kinda bummed because then I won’t have get to experience living on campus. So that’s my Plan B. .-.

@zettasyntax Have you ever heard of USC rescinding/ voiding SGRs prior to the applicant submitting their spring grades? I mean the whole point of sending an SGR is predicated on the fact that the admission wants to see the applicant’s spring grades before they make their final decision.

@mase31 I’m in a predicament where I have no family anywhere out here sadly. I’ve just been connecting with friends out there and setting up potential roommates in case I can’t get on campus housing. Between my 2 friends and I, we could potentially find an apartment. The hard part is income requirements… not even with us 3 combined do we meet 3x the rent for ANY apartment in LA that we could afford. So we have to hunt for places only requiring 2x the rent.

@mase31 Yeah, I just thought I’d mention it since several people got in for spring today. Maybe it’s still something they do for them. It was in a place called Fluor Tower, but I certainly had no idea where that even was. It was more expensive than I would have liked.

@Steamedz I’ve never heard of that happening. This year seems to be pretty crazy. I know I read something earlier in the thread about a person somehow getting in without even sending in their spring grades after getting SGR’d. That could be okay grounds for an appeal if one was rejected before getting a chance to send in their spring grades.

@vegastransfer Lorenzo requires that the income be 4x the rent amount. I get why I just don’t think this is being sensitive to low income students.

@vegastransfer maybe if you guys commute from a little further from LA. Not having somewhere to live is tough and that area is pretty expensive

@CookieMnstr I’m hoping that I get one of my housing options but if not I’ll have to commute. I guess it’ll be better because I’ll be saving $$. sighs
