@Fite0n No, it will not. What is more important is your indicated major and the number of units that major requires. I am transferring with 64+ units but my academic advisor still encouraged me to take summer courses! For future reference, I am a junior transfer and am on track to graduate within two years, if not sooner.
Also for those admitted, I was accepted on May 17th and just received my package on Friday, May 31st. Admissions said that they would be sending out all packages at once, but be prepared to wait a while.
@ebstein Hi there, there’s a few people in this thread who still haven’t heard back so she’s not alone. My case is the most similar to your daughter’s, I’m a SCA external applicant but for CAMS. I plan to call admissions on Monday and I will post their response here as soon as possible.
@Needmoreec Yes, not gonna lie, there is a perception/stereotypes on campus like @zettasyntax mentioned, that the spring admits, particular transfer spring admits, are just plain dumb and are only admitted because they are rich or legacy or both. Transfers in general are just regarded differently, it’s how it is. I would suppose this happens at any school with a transfer population, but particularly at a private school. And at USC, why Nikias started taking so many transfers is a constant question.
@sagaciousforever It is Sunday, gotta have some common sense about things.
Hey guys I sent my SGR on May 29th and 2 days ago my fast disappeared and my SGR disappeared on my portal. I was taking business calc this semester and I got an A and a 4.0 this spring semester. I have had an upward with 6 semesters in a row now with a 4.0 and 79 credits done bumping my overall gpa to a 3.85 from a 2.7. I am a marshal applicant and I was wondering when do you think I will find out.
I also submitted my SGR on the 29th or 30th and my SGR and Fast also disappeared on the portal. although I want to think this is a good thing, I feel like there are too many applicants who have not been notified for them to have reviewed our stuff already.
@Fite0n If there are some remaining GE’s or other requirements that you can take, then yes, you can definitely take courses in the fall. I had a lot of units myself. About 97 completed at my CC. My CC actually sent me an email saying that I wouldn’t have my class fees waived if I took additional courses. I did need to complete a level III Spanish course and I could have taken care of that, but I wanted to see what a Spanish course at USC was like. Most spring transfers will need 4 semesters to complete their degree requirements and thus graduate in the fall. You need to take a minimum of 64 units while at USC, so that would be a bit difficult to do in say 3 semesters. You’d need to take over 20 units each semester. You should graduate on-time. I started in January 2016 and after I changed majors, my advisor had me on track to graduate for spring 2018. I did rush things a bit by taking summer courses and was able to graduate earlier, but I do somewhat regret taking so many summer classes and it just slaughtered my GPA.
Many of you guys who gpt SGRs will get in. It’s just because you’re most likely taking the English they need or something. My friend last year got an SGR because he was taking English 126 when he turned in his application, and didn’t hear back until end of June, and he got in. I got an SGR, turned it in on Friday to my counselor as unofficial, and got a reply. Getting an SGR doesn’t change your chances of getting in.
Has anyone that was accepted on May 31 been able to get on the housing app?
I put in my student id and did forget password and it said password could not be send…
I previously took a summer course at USC and still have my usc email, ID and password which all works on Oasis and the other platforms. Could this be causing the error? Hoping @CADREAMIN could help!
Thank you!!
@blueskies2day Are you saying that @zettasyntax is also rich/have legacy because he was also admitted to Spring?
This perception at USC is just a generalization because most Spring admits are not rich/have legacy. USC admits them for Spring only because they did not have enough spots for certain majors/schools. There is not much difference in academics comparing Fall and Spring transfer admits.
I have seen several successful friends of mine who were admitted to USC for Spring 2020. Most of them had 3.9 to 4.0 GPA and they applied from a top 50 university/top 50 liberal arts college. So are you saying that they are dumb?
USC wouldn’t accept dumb students at the first place and there are so many applicants who deserve a spot but still got rejected.
Ultimately, it doesn’t matter if you are admitted for Fall or Spring. It matters more if you could adjust yourself to USC’s academic standard and perform well in your classes at USC.
@blueskies2day I know that most transfers might not have high enough SAT/ACT scores as freshman admits, but the perception that says “Spring admits are dumb” is just overly offensive.
People tried very hard to make it. Even though they got into Spring, I don’t think we should look down to them. I am sure that there are many Spring admits (freshman admits and transfer admits) that are successful in their classes.
If there are no statistics to support that Spring admits are dumb, this perception is just a hasty generalization.
This might be a dumb question, but I wanted to get CC’s input just in case. I already SIR’d to another school and submitted my deposit there, but I filled out the SIR form to USC to see what would happen. I got the email saying welcome to the Trojan Family but I never submitted the deposit (my portal just says it’s awaiting my deposit). Does this mean I still have time to submit the deposit just in case I change my mind and decide to go to USC?
