2019-2020 USC Transfer

@bananahrr Yes, you have to pay the deposit in order to commit to USC.

@sagaciousforever I still have the option to submit the deposit on my portal, which I thought was weird. Do you think if I submit it now it wouldn’t be valid anymore and I’d just be wasting $300? Thanks again for your help!

@bananahrr No worries! If you pay, you will officially “SIR” to USC. If you don’t do so by August 1st, I think USC won’t reserve a spot for you.

@sagaciousforever Thank you so much, that helps a lot! And congrats on getting into USC!

@sagaciousforever Ok sorry one more question lol. Where can I find the information about submitting by August 1st?

@bananahrr In your decision letter.

“To accept this offer, simply log in to admission.usc.edu/status and submit your Spring 2020 Intent to Enroll. Students should submit their Intent to Enroll by August 1 or within two weeks of receiving your offer of admission, whichever is later.”

@sagaciousforever Okay awesome, thank you!

@sagaciousforever Might be helpful to actually read the question and answer. I didn’t say spring admits and transfers are dumb, but said it is a stereotype there. Big difference. Doesn’t mean I believe it, but the perception does exist. And I didn’t say @zettasyntax was rich or legacy either. You aren’t on campus to know how it is, report back when you have some actual experience. There is a divide and perception of spring/transfers being a B team and that 's what was asked. zettasyntax acknowledged it because he has been there rather than relying on hearsay. There’s lots of perceptions of different groups of students at any school, you can choose to ignore it or not.

@jj1999 what does TTP stands for?

trojan transfer plan

@blueskies2day Sorry that I misunderstood you. I thought you brought up this perception up because you also believed it since you emphasized particularly on Spring admits.

does our performance in our GE classes have as much impact on our admissions decision as our major required courses?? i got As in all of my major related courses, but i got a B in a GE class

@whatsup1995 I think you’re good. One B isn’t going to ruin your chances.

@blueskies2day ; @sagaciousforever : Many USC students who were admitted as freshmen have a negative perception on transfers. S was admitted as a TTP, from a UC last fall 2018 as a sophomore, experienced this feeling. He tells me that quite a few freshmen admits were admitted to Ivies or Ivy like schools, but could not afford the cost an Ivy, and therefore, chose to attend USC on a full ride. USC seeks and offers these types of students full rides. He tells these students (many out of state and may not know a UC’s reputation outside UCB or UCLA) that he had an almost perfect GPA (2 A-'s out of 10 classes kept him from a perfect GPA) at the UC and that he has a perfect GPA so far in 2 semesters as a sophomore at USC. However, because of the tough competitive and he wants to attain an A average, many times, he stays up until 3 or 4 AM studying for midterms or finals.

For you all who were admitted, apply for USC housing asap and pay the small deposit. There is a long wait list and housing is going through the list as students that have previously secured a housing spot change their mind (i.e., admitted to fraternity/sorority, go abroad to study internationally, or other reasons, etc.). For USC housing, if you are looking to be assigned with a specific roommate, it is difficult. If an opening is available, USC will offer it based on the date you signed up and if you turn it down, you loose your spot and I think you go to the end of the list or are off the list. S was admitted last year May 1st and ended up 2 random roommates in a 1 bedroom USC apartment (offered a housing spot around May 15). It worked out well and he got along great with these 2 roommates. Last year, transfers admitted late May and after mostly did not get USC housing. Maybe this year is different. Alternatively, be open to private housing near campus before they start filling up.

Did anyone get a transfer merit scholarship yet? Does anyone know when we hear about these? Where to look? I’ll be attending usc marshall didnt get into haas

Hoping for the best! I got an SGR and am sending my grades in this week

I was not accepted so I am interested in transfering my lease at Gateway. The room is unassigned - you would choose roommates through their matching service if you’d like. I got a better deal than the current rate because I signed early. Please message me if interested - great location and good deal!

Any Viterbi applicants that got an SGR hear back yet?

I have not heard back from Viterbi yet.

I got an SGR last Tuesday night, submitted a screenshot to my counselor Wednesday morning, then got a reply from my counselor Friday. Her email said:

"XXX,

Thank you for sending this. I have added your grade report and updates to your application file. We should be hearing a decision from Viterbi soon.

-XXX "

SOOON! As in this week hopefully!
