@blueskies2day just to clarify that the regents is 30k actually for 4 years and it will distribute to every year which is around 7500$ per year (2500 per quarter). Thats what i meant 30k regents ( sr for being unclear). I also got 20k in university grant ( idk what it is) and financial aid which make the total of 33k. Thank you so much for ur clarification btw.
Also, my top choice school is always USC. Idk if i can wait until july or not because the housing deadline in Davis is at the end of June. What do you think about it?
@RyanLam Gonna jump in here - you have a fantastic offer from Davis - a great school. Not LA or USC - totally get that - but a free college education - wow. Frankly, you cannot wait on USC and screw yourself out of housing at Davis. I did a quick google search and found this on housing page for UC Davis:
Reservation Fee
A $500 reservation fee is due with the housing application. This payment is
applied toward the fall quarter charges
Cancellation Processing Fee: $75
Is that correct? With all your grants, are you expected to even pay the housing app fee? And are you only on the hook for $75 if you cancel? @Gumbymom is the UC pro, maybe she can provide input about housing obligation, should you cancel and go to USC.
Also, at this point, you are unlikely to get housing at USC (they have already said it was full a while back, so it’s just random spots coming available at this point), so a mad off-campus search may be necessary, unless you live in socal and would commute of course.
Also, keep in mind, even if you find out you got into USC tomorrow, it can take a week or two to get financial aid. So with this already being late June, you are unlikely to have that info before the housing app is due at Davis. And are you banking on USC covering an $80K (yes E-I-G-H-T-Y thousand) cost of attendance through aid and grants? They are less generous with aid for transfers, but of course it depends on your personal situation. My guess is you would be carrying a lot of loans compared to the excellent position Davis is putting you in.
So first, unless you are prepared to take a year off to dream more of USC, I really think you need to be ready to get the UC Davis housing app in on time. Second, I get USC being a dream school for lots of people, but have you given thought to what you can get out of Davis and how it compares in reality to USC? I get the social variance, but what about the education, is it that different?
I love USC (obviously having sent several there) but a free education from Davis is a gift, truly. Hope it all works out for you whether in Norcal or Socal.
sent in my SGR like 3 weeks ago and about last last, the whole thing just went away on my portal and hasnt come back. I know a lot of people have said this happened to them but I never really payed attention to what they said happened next lol. for those who experienced this same exact thing can you pls tell me what to expect next. Im just TIREDT of waiting smh
@ramblebrisket once you turn in your SGR and it disappears it means that they received it. The waiting sucks, either way, I feel like ill be grateful if I get in but mad that it took so long and if I don’t get in ill feel grateful that it’s over but mad it took long for them to reject me. Either way, I’ll just be mad and grateful. Hang in there everybody, hope you all get in!
@Doodlesack This was on the older version of the portal (USConnect), so I can’t say the same will apply. I only received an email stating that the appeal was not successful. I saw no portal update.
And yeah, @blueskies2day is correct. Appeals for transfers are a bit on the rare side. You can look at the past transfer decision threads on here and you might see one or two cases in one year, but you won’t see them happen every year. I was (sadly) a bit skeptical of the guy I knew that got in on appeal, so I looked up his usc email in the student directory and sure enough, he was there. So he counts as a recent successful transfer appeal. None of my appeals were successful that year. I appealed my decisions for CSULB, UCLA, and USC. So I guess you can say I’ve never succeeded when it comes to appealing. My appeal reason for USC was a bit weak. I mentioned that I had absolutely nowhere else to go and that USC was my last hope. I tried to state that I took on a ton of units (48) for the current academic year and more than doubled my unit count while only getting one B and insisted that they reconsider. In hindsight, it was a bit of a non-reason for an appeal, but I just had to try.
55,000 in GIFT aid.
still too expensive for me
If anyone is still waiting for the merit scholarship. I got the merit scholarship Tuesday!!! So they are still awarding them!
I was so sleepy when I wrote on here about my acceptance. Anyway sgr on May 29. Turned in spring grades June 10. Accepted to both Cinema Studies and film production June 14. Received merit scholarship June 18.
Freaking out … just got my Spring grades and got a C in Calc 3…sending in my SGR today
CC Freshman with 8- A, 1 B and now one C…
All Classes meet articulation agreement
I think I am in big trouble
FYI i applied Viterbi CS
@CADREAMIN
You are correct about UC Davis housing application. I am gonna ask them if i can get fee waiver for this 500$ (I didn’t pay 250$ for SIR because EOP covered it, they accepted me for being a member of EOP automatically in Davis). However i just checked my notification and the deadline for housing was June 17. In my email yesterday they just told me to apply but didnt say the deadline (i guess they give me more time for it).
I am not actually trying to get housing in USC btw because i live pretty close to USC (I live in Los which is 20m away from USC). Unfortunately neither me or my family has enough money to cover the USC tuition and fee (3 of us combine is not even enough). I am purely dependent on the financial aid + scholarships from USC. If they don’t have anything for me, even though I get accepted i still have to go somewhere else.
My major is computer science and to be honest I don’t know how good the cs major of USC compares to UC Davis. At this point i just want to see my decision from USC.
Thank you so much for your input. It is super helpful.
Also, this is for anyone who sent SGR few weeks ago.
“Dear Ryan,
Transfer admission decisions are not all released on the same date. You will be finding out by the end of June regarding your admission decision”
So If u guys are in my situation which is Junior or Senior in College transferring to USC and already sent SGR. Ya’ll likely will hear your decision this end of June.
@RyanLam CS at USC is amazing, I have a recent grad who has already done some incredible things/connected with industry peeps etc., with that degree. Great field for you. Having said that, CS at many schools is just a solid job/career to start coming out of college. So if you go to Davis or USC, you can be confident in finding a great job when you finish. A couple years out of SoCal may be a good life experience for you…hope it works out at USC, but it is nice to know you have a strong alternative. Good luck!
@CADREAMIN thank you
I thought the package of wards always comes with the admission at the same time. I am wrong for USC then.
GPA?
Does anyone have any advice as to who I should contact to see how many of my units transfer over? I am a junior transfer and I don’t want to accept my admission if I will not be a junior, or close to it, at USC. Also, does anyone know when they release financial aid decisions? Sorry I’m so clueless lol
@purplediva2 - FA comes a week (hopefully) after you are accepted. If you don’t have it at that point, you should call. Or just call anyway to check on it. Oddly, you have to SIR (commit) to get into OASIS, which is the student record system that contains many things including the transfer credit report. Not sure if anyone has called transfer services to see if you can get credit count ahead of SIR. But if you call the main number, they can transfer you (ha) to transfer services. Heads up though - the gal that works there regularly can be a bit cranky.
Finally accepted today!
Viterbi Computer Science/ Business Administration
TTP, 3.8 GPA 45 units
No update on my application, never got requested for an SGR either, and they won’t give me any info/answers!! So confused. Luckily I’ve committed somewhere else but sheesh… I submitted my app early January.
@TTPlease Congratulations and best of luck!!!
Did you receive an SGR? If so how long it took to get accepted after submitting SGR?
@4my3kgbg I got an SGR and submitted my grades May 31
