@madisonbd I am still waiting on my financial aid package as well. I called Financial aid and somehow admissions and Financial Aid systems are not in sync at the moment so if it says docs are not uploaded or something required still needs to be turned in but everything is turned in I would give admissions a call just to make sure. Admissions told me to wait a couple of days since I called last week for the portal to be updated. Its pretty crazy with orientation literally coming up next week so just going to call again to make sure all of my part is turned in. I would call both admissions and financial aid to make sure.
Hey ya’ll long time lurker and just wanted to say I got into Viterbi for Computer Science/Business Administration as a sophomore this fall last Friday! Honestly just kinda gave up on USC, I got rejected last year and my GPA dropped from a 4.0 to ~3.79 this spring (a few A-) I think. So I was not even going to submit my spring grades until my admissions counselor reached out to me. Very cool to be admitted and getting into engineering school has been a long time dream but I am pretty sure I am going to stick with transferring to University of Michigan as I am pretty much all set up and supes excited. So happy for everyone who got in and I wish ya’ll the best of luck and remember to take the risk even when you think its not going to go your way!
@brookeiu Show them that you deserve a spot there, for every argument you use, SHOW THEM by using " Because or examples, … ".
Try to identify, WHY you got rejected, ex: GPA, and show them that despite the “failure” it does not reflects on you.
Do not try to be someone who you are not, because they can smell BS from a mile away. Be clear and concise, and do not put information you already did in your prompt essays. Your appeal letter, have to “talk” with all your essays without repeating. They have to be coherent.
In my opinion, USC want to see your personality, story and how serious you are to commit to the university and to the life of the others.
hello again guys! I unfortunately waited too long to sign up for the july 30th orientation so it got away from me. I had to sign up for the august 16th orientation which is really late and was wondering if they would save classes for the transfers for this slot too. I know this is an irrational fear but im just curious. Thank you guys!
@bissmiss it’s a private college lol getting classes would not be a problem because classes are small. In fact, one of the reasons I applied to private colleges! It’s better to sign up early tho because I believe you get to talk to a counselor to Taylor your class schedule and all. And on the 16th well you only gonna have about a week to start but that’s totally normal, expect the August sessions to be more crowded people are out there enjoying their summer just do your research on the classes and spent two days really thinking them trough and them ask questions to the profesors which
Will be there and counselors from your schoool. But RELAX not even at places like berkeley is hard to get into classes for your las two years (last two years). I reckon it is harder to get classes for the 1st two years because those are electives and well everyone has to take them! Your fear comes from CC, because you know most of us had to go trough that.
Rejected and to be honest relieved. Will apply to Berkeley and UCLA in Fall. Congratulation to whoever got accepted. It was a disaster to wait until last minute .
For anyone interested, I was already able to switch from Dornsife (political science) to Price (public policy). Since I know Price is small and not very represented in these threads, I figured I’d post about how the switch went.
Switching majors within Dornsife is pretty simple. You just fill out a form online and tell your advisor at orientation your plans. Switching into Price does have extra steps required though (just as there would be switching into Viterbi, Marshall, etc.). If you want to switch into Price, you have to give them a call and express your interest. The online form doesn’t work properly, so the call is necessary. They’ll make you submit a statement explaining your reason for wanting to switch into Price and how it’ll help you down the road. Once your statement is submitted and approve, they’ll be able to switch your major in Oasis.
It is important to note that the professional schools are likely looking to see if you are using Dornsife as an easier path into their schools. Definitely do NOT do this if you are a future applicant reading this! Make sure your intentions are honest with your initial major. You don’t want to look like you are gaming the system. I truly thought political science was right for me before realizing that my heart lies in policy analysis and formulation, not in theoretical concepts on comparative politics.
Hope this helps anyone who may be interested in joining Price!
@trojantobemaybe Good luck to you! Thanks for posting.
@CADREAMIN Do you recommend going to one of the Scend Offs events? I missed the one closest to me because it took place prior to my acceptance; however, there is one happening about 30 minutes away from me that will take place next week.
@KeepTheFaith96 thank u for the advice!! I worked on my appeal over 3 day and actually already submitted it on Monday. Kinda relieved reading your comment because I think I covered all my bases. I tried not to make any direct references to my GPA in general since the only class I consistently did bad in was Chem and I wasn’t sure how to explain them without sounding bratty and stating that I’m just horrible at chem (since college chem is hard for everyone). I just said that with everything that was going on I’m still proud that I was able to bring it up an entire letter grade during spring quarter. It wasn’t informal but I did keep it very candid since it was very personal. Kinda relieved reading your comment cause I feel like I covered all my bases and did the best I could. Thank you for replying even after this thread’s activity is starting to wind down!
I am a fall admit @seahawksjoe
Does anyone know how the whole process of transferring out of Dornslife works? I am trying to transfer out of Health and Human Sciences (Dornslife) into Pharmacology and Drug Development (School of Pharmacy).
Thanks for any info!
@brookeiu when you got your rejection? So you didn’t address your bad grade/s? What’s considered a bad grade ?
@Doodlesack my appeal decision didn’t come out yet but to clarify Im pretty sure I was rejected because I didn’t show a big enough improvement for chem and chem lab. I had 2 C’s in chem which I brought up to a B for spring but constant B/B+ for chem lab. Otherwise, my grades were all A’s and I take a lot of classes each quarter so my GPA wasn’t hurt that much. I chose not to address why I got a C in Chem twice without sounding immature and being like “it’s so hard” and “I didn’t know how to study for it at first” because obviously chem is hard etc. I just talked briefly about how yes I didn’t do well in Chem but then I linked it back to the main issues that I was revealing in my appeal (personal health, medication +family issues) and I said I’m still proud of the small improvement from a C to a B due to all the other problems I had going on at the time. Sorry I wasn’t clear enough ^^ but this is what I meant when I said I didn’t address them upfront. My appeal was based on personal circumstances and and not so much unmentioned extra curricular or grades so I didn’t think it would make sense to try to explain away one of my grades so I chose to just address them in the context of how my experiences this year has changed me in how I deal/view things (esp failure).
BTW are you appealing?? I’m not 100% sure if I saw you commenting that tho pls don’t be offended
@Doodlesack btw I have a 3.7 and I’m a first year w 46 transferrable semester units (from this year alone). I’m from a quarter system school
hello guys… just received my financial aid package and i received a lot less than i thought i would. I received 3000 in gift aid, for which i am extremely grateful for, but that leaves me with a total cost of attendance of 57,000. I will be taking out federal student loans and i have suggested the idea of taking out personal loans to my mom but she has vehemently denied the idea. My family makes about 140k~ and my dad will not be helping out because he just doesn’t want to. Any way of successfully appealing to the financial aid? I dont really think i have a basis to appeal. Although my family makes a moderate amount of money, we just cannot afford 57,000 a year for my tuition. Thanks in advance for your advice!
@bissmiss I believe you have to upload a letter and provide supporting documents on the fast portal. The USC financial aid website should have the necessary procedures to appeal. How long did it take you to receive your financial aid package ?
@kaimiller it took 9 days for me to receive my package. thank you for the info!
Can colleges disclose your admission status to 3rd party people? Like if a random person shows up and says I’d like to know if this person (says the name) was accepted or not, or would colleges to other colleges disclose this info?
@brookeiu I see, not offended at all why would I!?. Haha I did appeal, but I’m there with you, I did horrible this past spring after getting A’s previous semesters, just like you family stuff, but I didn’t pass a class related to my major, so it’s like hmmm. I mean, the course is not even transferable; in fact, none of my classes from this past spring were transferable. But I got no A’s, and also if that class was related to my major but was not transferable it speaks I won’t do good in that major? Is like telling them you were right rejecting me. Do you feel me? I can’t say I took classes to get FAFSA and so focus on my family with the time instead of spending time working? Also, I never got a Spring Grade Request, and I don’t know if people who didnt also got a request, I never did. So I never turned them. I’ve over 50 units, and they probably did not need to see spring grades to reject me earlier. My hopes are low, I know sending spring grades might speed the process but it is either that and explaining (which would be justifying my poor performance), and they were cool with it — or speeding a 2nd rejection. I mean, let’s say they’re cool with the poor grades, but me telling them about taking care of the family during hard times that would jeopardize how they think that would affect my performance at SC in the upcoming semester if I’m ready or not. It suuuucks. Plus also that’s another way to say that you’re poor, and they’d be like, hmmm poor student, do we have any money left or we want to give more?? Best of the luck to you! Let me know via DM if you get in! Whats your major??
