2019 Postseason baseball?

@jmnva06 we’ve had some silly rituals in our house including who sits in what chair. Dh needs a ton of sleep and has been having to get up super early so he’s gone up to bed the last two nights. Tonight he said he was debating whether he should stay up and watch the game or go to bed since they won after he went to bed last night (he missed all the hoopla with the questionable call). I had to celebrate last night with S19 via text since he’s away at School and I was the only one in my family still up at home!

Three more outs. Finish the Fight!

Go Nats!

And the Nats win it all. Good job to the team that took out the Dodgers and Cardinals in the NL playoffs. All San Francisco Giants fans are thankful.

FIGHTFINISHED! Way to go Nats!

And Juan Soto wasn’t World Series MVP? Same voters must have channeled the umpire in Game 6.

What a wild night! I’m soaked to the skin, as it started raining at Nats Park at 6 pm. It was lots of fun, and was a heck of a series!

We live in Arlington VA and went to bed with the score 4-2 (we’re not fans of either team). We knew the Nats won when we could hear cheering and raucousness on the street.

S19 goes to school in NY but stayed up watching in his Nats gear with some of his suitemates. He called us after the win and said he woke up his floor with his cheering. ?

Fight Finished. Very happy for the Nats!

I can’t believe that no home team won a game in this 7-game series. So I googled if that was the first time ever. Guess what? The Astros are the first team to lose four home games in a best-of-seven series in MLB, NBA or NHL history.

Wow. Brutal.

And Justin Verlander 0-6 . I feel for him. Not a good record to be stuck with for such a great pitcher

I’m not a baseball person but I live in the DC area and got an opportunity to make a Nats fan even happier. Someone posted on our homeowners FB page that the stores were sold out of the WaPo copies today. I had the front page and sports page and offered them to her. She just picked them up and is so happy!

I was too tired to go out to the grocery store to get the paper today. Got home at 1:45 am. The WaPo did an extra press run for the Caps’ Stanley Cup win, and I was able to order that online because I never found one at the stores. My guess that it will happen this time, too.

Was at the watch party at Nats Park, in the pouring, cold rain. It was glorious. As the comeback started, folks came streaming into the bleachers from the concourse, where many had gone to escape the rain. We were all hugging total strangers the last couple of innings.

S2 called right after the game, not that I could hear him, but I turned my phone so he could see the mayhem at Nats Park vs the TV coverage. It was 7 am by him when the game ended. Really missed him not being there.

Parade is Saturday!

@CountingDown so fun that you were able to attend the watch parties at the stadium.

I told S23 last night we could go to the victory parade but then found out this morning that it is Saturday. Unfortunately we are headed out of town to S19’s college b/c he has a game. So bummed b/c my kids missed the Caps parade last year b/c they were in the middle of final exams that day.

I was looking forward to a good night sleep after being up late watching the Series. But now we have the storms approaching - we are surrounding by huge trees so I can never sleep when we have high winds at night.

Enjoy the parade!

The thing about losing four home games in a seven-game series – to do that, you have to WIN three road games. Otherwise, all that happens is that at most you lose two or three home games. So of course the Astros are the first team to lose four home games, because this is the first series in which no one ever won a home game. Those two things are the same.

And yet, before the Astros, no other team throughout the history of 3 US professional leagues in the US had it occurred before. Amazing.

The 6 innings I watched last night probably more than doubled my MLB watch time this season, but… what a great game! I grew up in Washington D.C, Frank Howard was my hero!! (Look it up) so I am very happy for the team and the city.

As an aside, I saw a blurb on the TV screen about Anthony Rendon being offered a 7 year $210 million contract… Let’s see… that’s $30 million US dollars per year. What a job!

The 7/210 is low compared to other top 3rd basemen who have gotten new contracts recently. Current best comp is Nolan Arenado – 8 years / $260,000,000. The rumor mill here in DC is that Rendon could go elsewhere and get 300+, esp after the season he has had. He’s going to want years over $$, I suspect, as he is already 30-31 and has had injuries.

He might take a discount to stay in DC, as he likes the area, the team and there is a good core that should be able to continue winning for a few years. The Lerners (team owners) often include deferred $$ in the contracts, which not all players like, as some of those payments go out for decades. Rendon’s agent, Boras, is the same guy who represents Harper and Gerrit Cole – Boras is a pretty tough negotiator. We’ll see what happens.

I think the Nats will be able to convince Stras not to leave (he has an opt-out and he could go fish for more $) and will work out a lower $ deal with Zimmerman. Zim has said he doesn’t care about the $$ and doesn’t want to play anywhere else, but knows the Nats won’t pick up his $18M option.

Such problems!

Correction: 2019 is Rendon’s age 29 season.
