Colorado had its bad weather on Tuesday. Grocery stores have been a nightmare since Monday. My brother made it down from Steamboat (about 3 hours) on Wednesday and left tonight about 5:30 as he has to work tomorrow.
My nephew left Wed morning to drive to Chicago and took the ‘long’ way on I-70 rather than I-80 (both roads were closed on Tues). He made it this morning. He (and GF) will then leave Chicago on Sat to drive to Washington DC. He starts his new job on Monday. Busy week.
I was worried - an upperclassman was supposed to be driving my son back to school on Sunday, a five hour drive w/o traffic, but half of the trip is up 95/NJ turnpike so it will be a nightmare drive. Rain, sleet, then snow added on top of Thanksgiving traffic.
Then yesterday my neighbor gave us two tix to the Ravens/49ers game on Sunday. Even tho we live in Ravens territory, we are most definitely not Ravens fans. My husband is from San Francisco and our younger son has always been a diehard 49ers fan. Tho older son follows a different team, it’s supposed to be a great game so we offered to buy him a train ticket back to school on Monday if he wanted to go to the game with his brother (he does). He doesn’t have class until 2pm on Monday fortunately. So they will go to the game and be miserable in the rain (club seats tho so they can go inside and watch if it’s awful). And then I don’t have to worry about my son driving back in the terrible traffic/weather on Sunday. 3-5” of snow expected at his school. And of course all of his warm clothes/boots are in his dorm room!
My D made it to Denver today from Chicago. I hope she can get out on Sunday, it seems like the rain we are getting in California today and tomorrow may hit Denver by or about then.
S17 is leaving early Sunday morning on the school sponsored bus to go back to upstate NY where they have already had more snow than ever before for early November and where they get lake effect snow. I’m nervous. I hate to even leave my house if snow is predicted, let alone drive.
Driving son back to Ann Arbor from Chicago this afternoon. Going to my mother’s house 45 minutes away. Then coming back Sunday afternoon. If just rain I should be good.
D is watching the weather and possibly planning an early return home. I’m making alternate plans in case classes on Monday are cancelled (during the final week of the semester with lots of student presentations and tests/papers due).
We are in the middle of a lull in mega-thunderstorms; I had my son set up gutter drain extenders in the backyard on Wednesday knowing that we are prone to flooding. We drove down to San Diego yesterday for TG dinner with the family and it was pouring the whole drive. Based on the forecast we will be dealing with the same thing driving back up the 5 today. Luckily it seemed like most people were respecting the conditions and driving pretty conservatively.
We are looking at all sorts of scenarios. D needs to get to PA from CT. May have to leave tomorrow, but I shudder to think how bad the traffic will be. Other option is miss classes Monday and go Mon pm/return Tues am, requiring a parent to take a day off work (just coming off vaca this week) Very few to no options to bus, train, or fly. Ugh.
Kid always planned to return to Boston tomorrow. I’ll only be affected on Monday when because of the snow my regular tennis game will likely be called off. No one will want to drive in the snow. I’ve already decided it will be my turkey soup making day.
Estimates for my part of northern New England range from totals of 10" - 14" of snow Sunday to Monday. Our son and DIL in the Midwest stayed put and had a lovely turkey breast on bed of vegetables. More-local son took time off and came up Monday evening for our dinner with my mother. He got on the bus back home this morning as previously planned. We would have tried to send him back by today anyway, and it’s nice that it didn’t cut his trip short.
I have to take my S back to school on Sunday, but I’m debating taking him back on Saturday evening instead.
Rain, freezing rain and snow are forecasted. I would go during the warmest part of the day, but it looks like that is going to be afternoon/early evening.
I know he likes to be there earlier to be able to finish homework and practice piano etc.
Residence Halls are to open on Sunday but last year they opened them early after Xmas break when the weather was going to be bad.
