2020-2021 USC Transfer

Just got an SGR as a junior transfer. Can’t wait to receive my decision a month later than others lol.

@collegeappusc heads up I was also accepted to NYU and got an extension for a month. Just call admissions and they’ll email you a form and most likely accept whatever amount of time you’re requesting (if they don’t, they’ll likely give you a shorter extension but then you can just reapply for one when the first one is coming to an end). A week is ridiculous, especially when most don’t have financial aid packages right now, would highly recommend asking for an extension!

Wow, I didn’t realize how much of an impact being a legacy had on admission into USC. Kind of a bummer for transfers who don’t have an alumni relation.

@mill213 congrats!! yeah a week is insane…literally no time at all. did you let them know you were waiting for other decisions or did you give kind of an ambiguous reason for needing an extension?

@collegeappusc thank you, you as well!! I pretty much just stated that 2 weeks (the time I was given on my decision letter, not sure why it’s 1 week now for those who were recently accepted) is not an adequate amount of time for my family and I to make a decision considering I hadn’t received my financial aid package yet and the coronavirus had also shifted my family’s finances. I wouldn’t mention other decisions, they won’t care. They only want students who are certain they want to/will attend NYU, so if you mention other schools it may give off the vibe that NYU isn’t your #1, and that’ll lower your chances for an extension approval. You can leave it pretty vague, they’ll probably approve it (they approved mine hours after I requested it, surprisingly fast!)

@CADREAMIN - thanks for your response! I hope my son hears soon. He has USC and one other school left to hear from both of which are in the running with schools he has been accepted too and it’s hard to make a choice not knowing what is coming through. After not a great fit at his 4 year school it will be nice to have him some place he will thrive and be happy.

@momof2boys1 It really sounds like it is just a matter of “when” not “if” for him! Hang in there. There is a very good chance he hears within a couple to a few days of submitting his grades at this point. Things have to start moving here, especially for TTPs that haven’t heard already!

@seabee91 thanks for the reply! I tend to think 90 members on a private fb account is a lot given that many who are accepted never join such sites. Isn’t the typical average range of overall accepted transfers somewhere around 1,200+/-?

is anyone a ttp and not heard anything at all?

yup, me!

cool, same lol

@cmdgk0 May I ask which major and stats? Do you know what you were missing?

Has anybody heard back for Viterbi? Or know anybody who has?

@AE2000 Yes, there are a handful of Viterbi admitted students in the fb group.

Based on last year’s statistics, only 8% of students got accepted into Annenberg (the school I’m trying to apply to) as a transfer. Is this generally the same throughout the years? I’m an incoming junior transfer from a 4-year out-of-state public school with a GPA above 3.7. What are my chances? I still have yet to receive a WGR or SGR.

@Doodlesack Just saw your reply to my age! Yes I got accepted to Marshall as a Business Admin major (hoping to minor in Entertainment Industry).

Really? I’m not sure if that’s true about Stanford, that would be discriminating against applicants. There is a veterans org called Service to School that helps place veterans in top universities (Ivies/Top 10 schools). Stanford is one of the schools they funnel in veterans and they have an official connection through the org. I know its competitive to get in though.

yup! im ttp and still havent gotten anything back… but im not sure if its because my highschool sent the wrong transcripts and delayed everything or if usc is just not choosing to say anything

anything updates on dornsife?

@seabee91 I sure hope that our service would help out in our application. I was a corpsman though, and now applying in Film Production. My previous job is pretty much unrelated to what I want to do.

@hermit1214 Dude, I was a Builder in the Seabees lol. Not super similar to Business or Entertainment. I can dm you a copy of my essay responses if you’d like, so you can see how I peppered in my Navy experience into my essays. It wasn’t something that dominated my essays, but I did use it as a way to showcase my leadership and work ethic.
