2020-2021 USC Transfer

@Doodlesack letters of recommendation aren’t always good. People can be very HONEST about you because they know you legally can’t see their recommendation. Unless your recommender comes to you and tells you they wrote you a really good recommendation, anything is possible.

@hosc21 if you don’t mind me asking, what school did you apply? haven’t heard anything at all so i’m getting pretty nervous since two people from nyu seem to have gotten an sgr already

I hope I get my USC decision soon. Just got my financial aid package from NYU and its SO bad…

@nyeoominheelys It happened to me as well several years back. I had heard absolutely nothing from USC and June 1st had come and gone. It seems to be somewhat of a rare thing as mentioned. It wasn’t by much (the letter was dated June 5th), but it is entirely possible not to hear anything by the deadline they set. Last year was one of the only times I can recall it happening to more than a couple of people, but it appears to have been mostly isolated to SCA majors (CAMS I think?). I personally believe that they should add a little asterisk or something because when I called to complain, they said it was totally normal for me not to have gotten any type of decision despite it being after their deadline =\

@sportsguy808 Hey sorry for the late reply. Hmm, well, first things first, the lack of an internship is totally fine. Lots of transfers don’t have any kind of internship to list and I think it would have to be really stellar to have much of an impact, so don’t worry about that one. I don’t think this semester will necessarily count against you in that it’s not like you’ve been consistently taking a low number of units. My first year of CC, I took a whopping total of six units because my class fee waiver had been rejected, so it’s no wonder I got an SGR with so little full-time history to go off of. Getting a B or two isn’t much to stress about either. Do you need another English class to meet the minimum requirement? If not, I don’t see the point in taking another English course. The C might be a little worrying, but if you are able to keep an upward trend, you might be able to offset that. Really just try to keep that GPA as high as possible from here on out.

Do you any of you think we might hear back Friday even tho they’re having their virtual commencement all day?

@zettasyntax wow! that’s crazy. Were you accepted after that deadline, on June 5th?

@beachygirl28 I don’t think that would change or deter them from releasing on Friday. From a website perspective they can have it programmed to release/ update the pages for those individuals who hear back automatically.

Also, the people who are doing the virtual commencement and the people who are altering the website to release decisions would likely be in completely different departments.

I think commmencement will take all the resources on Friday. Just a guess, but I have been through a few of them, and their commencements are over the top, I would expect them to be putting all they can into a virtual one.

So, sounds like we won’t get any decisions this week either. The wait continues

Some spring admits have received confirmation that there are no fall spots left (freshmen) so there will be no more movement from spring to fall. This probably doesn’t affect transfers too much, but maybe it does indicate that Admissions is nearly done confirming details of their Class of 2024 and can now focus more on confirming transfers

Very few moved to fall, just a couple-ish majors had a spot(s) open. So that is certainly more normal, just like appeals were in a more normal range as planned.

Last year was an anomoly with the scandal, it was important they got back to balance this year (except for this darn covid thing, ha). But in terms of appeals and spring bumps the plan was for very few of either, and that held.

hi all, i was just on the USC website and they said you need 30 credits to opt out of submitting SAT/ACT scores, do you need to have completed said 30 credits by the time you apply to opt out? by the time i apply, i will have 25 credits, but will be enrolled in 12 more credits worth of classes. will i have to submit standardized test scores?

also, i’m insanely new to the transfer process so sorry if this is a dumb question

@CADREAMIN Do you think that the number of transfer acceptances would be affected if a lot of people were to take a gap year?

@transferx If you have 30 units by the end of spring, you do not need to submit an ACT or SAT score. It is not by the time of your application submission.

@zettasyntax so you got in?

@nyeoominheelys Yup, that year (2015) I believe the deadline was June 1st and I heard absolutely nothing. I had to commit to UCLA because I couldn’t risk having nowhere to go. I honestly thought USC forgot about me.

@Doodlesack Yeah, second time was the charm for me. I wasn’t so lucky the first time around.

I think I might have to agree with @CADREAMIN. During my commencement, I remember seeing my first admissions counselor just walking about and hanging near Tommy Trojan, so even though it’s virtual, the admissions department might be busy. I don’t think it’s impossible for decisions to come out though. I just don’t expect a lot of USC admissions folk to be working very much that day.

So if my supervisor of my internship at city hall gave me a recommendation letter it will benefit or not??

@laka12g It probably will. But who wrote the LOR isn’t as important as what that individual wrote.

Hi y’all! I’m a fall 2019 transfer and would be happy to answer any questions that anyone might have.

@dprice if you don’t mind asking you, what was your gpa and if you had any recommendation letter and when did you get accepted?
