2020-2021 USC Transfer

S, a current junior at USC, has a similar dilemma. His goal is to attend a top tier law school. The classes which he is getting an A, he’ll take these classes for a grade. He has a class which he is getting an A-. He’ll wait until the last date to make his decision. If he thinks the A- can fall to a B+ or B, he’ll change from a grade to P/NP. Otherwise, he’ll keep the grade. You’ll have to make a similar decision and determine how admissions might view it. You might want to call the admissions office and get a feel for it.

@UCBUSCalum A current USC pre-med student was advised not to switch any classes to P/F, as medical schools are generally reluctant to accept such classes, especially if a prerequisite. The same could apply to any graduate program. My junior daughter is debating the same thing, as she is a graduate fellow candidate and must maintain a certain GPA level. My thoughts are a little different. Given this current climate, and with so many schools making this an option for this one semester only, I suspect that all graduate schools would understand if the entire semester’s coursework was taken P/F. To me, it would look more suspect if a student selected some classes for grades and some P/F. If I were reviewing such a transcript, I would assume that such a decision was reached because of an expected bad/lower grade for those selected courses… which could be equivalent to showing the actual grade - which may not be as low as the speculative one. My daughter plans to wait as well, but she will likely either elect to take them all for grades or take them all P/F, to avoid that speculation. Taking them all P/F at least preserves her current cumulative GPA and does not risk it falling due to the strange circumstances of 2020 thus far… including the challenges involved in moving and remote learning, etc.

@WWWard : thanks for the insights. I am going to relay this to my son. Perhaps he should also discuss this with his counselor.

@UCBUSCalum You’re welcome. Yes… my daughter has been asking many people for their insights or opinions. Luckily, the decision can be made as late at April 24th, so there is time to decide.

Does anyone know if this Pass/Fail thing is going to impact SGRs? Do you think there will be less of them as a result?

would you think USC would request for a SGR?

Have there been any more rumblings about timing for TTP and other transfer decisions?

Hi all! I noticed someone said awhile back Viterbi applicants tend to hear back a little later…anyone know a general timeline of when talent-based programs usually hear back? I applied to SCA as my first choice and Annenberg as my second; a lot of my younger friends from high school just got their first-year decisions back today and now I’m anxious for mine lol

@collegeappusc I applied 1st SCA 2nd Annenberg as well. Good luck to you!

Does anyone know if SCA transfers usually get interviewed? If so, bad sign for me.

@ascendiox And good luck to you! Fingers crossed we get to be classmates next year haha

Hi I’m new to CC but I wanted to know, has USC historically started sending out transfer decisions this first week of April, so close to when freshman decisions come out at the end of March?

Ahhhhhh, seeing all these Instagram stories from USC is making me super anxious about our decisions. I want it to see my decision NOW lol. I think I have a good chance, but it’s going to be hard. Electrical engineering major so its super competitive, 4.0 gpa which might drop this semester bc of all the stuff going on and moving to online, letter of rec from my Chemistry professor who is a USC masters program graduate, some work hours, decent essays, and am unfortunately an Asian male. Fingers crossed.

@Worldchamp24 First of all, love the name and profile picture. I miss him every day. Second of all, according to @CADREAMIN , decisions typically come around mid-April until the end of May. Might even extend past May if you get a SGR. I doubt they’ll release so soon but we’ll see.

Does anybody know when transfer decisions normally come out? I know the website says by the end of May but I’m hoping it will come out sooner.

I’m hoping sooner too but theres no way to tell. I’m sure someone will post here though once decisions are released

I read that USCs freshman acceptance rate increased to 16% this year from 11%. Do you guys think that is better or worse for transfers?

I would assume it doesn’t affect transfer admissions as we’d be joining the class of 2022 and the amount of transfers they can take in depends on how many spots they have in that class…but I really don’t know

Hey does anyone know if junior applicants get SGRs often or are they mostly for sophomore applicants?

I was wondering how likely it is to get in to USC when offered TTP. My friend was offered the transfer trojan program in June with very few information. Essentially just take these classes and keep a high gpa. He has 14 units with a 4.0 gpa at a cc at the moment but is going to finish the spring semester with around 30 units. Is he most likely guaranteed admission?

USC says that the acceptance rates for all schools are pretty much the same across the board, but do you guys think/know if this is really true? For example, is Marshall any harder to get into than another school?

Also, with the recent trend of freshman year acceptance rates going up, would we likely be experiencing an increase in acceptance rates as well given that they might think transfers may have a lower yield?
