First USC accepts you as a whole, then you get accepted by your major. However, the first choice major might not accept you, so you get considered for your second choice or as undeclared.
Is anyone else on here a Econ major?
Second choice for me
@keylez I’m an econ major
Dornsife-nothing
dornsife- nothing yet
Yo some more questions, I’m planning on transferring next year. I’m hoping to transfer in as a sophomore into Marshall as a Business administration major and I got a few more questions. 1. Overall my first year i’m going to be taking 32 credits which makes USC not look at my high school transcript or my SAT, but when I send in my application next year i’m going to have 16 units completed and 16 in progress. Will they still look at my SAT becuase at the time of me sending it ill only have 16 credits completed, but 16 in progress? I’m asking this because I never took my SAT or ACT.
Just announced that all UC campuses will be open this fall. Yay! Hopefully some of the CSU campuses can appeal their decision to not open.
@CADREAMIN Thanks for the update! I’ve been optimistic, especially with the news of different cities opening up this week with some restrictions. Definitely great news.
whats a VA?
AFAIK the first school reads your app if they don’t want you they pass it to your 2nd choice!
There are only 100 people on the Facebook group is that even possible ?
@CADREAMIN
From what I read UC campuses will only be partially open and there will be hybrid classes. Most instruction will still remain online.
@Doodlesack Veteran Affairs.
did anyone else get a request for more financial aid info? I got a request this morning
@laka12g I hope I’m wrong, but here’s my theory: currently enrolled sophomores and juniors are not going abroad this year, (Cambridge just announced it will be entirely online this next year), so USC does not have the space and won’t want to over-enroll classes or in housing that they typically have for incoming transfers. I think that’s why we are seeing far fewer transfer admits thus far. If USC were to decide to go online and lose students who decide to defer a year – or when students have other hardships or reasons why they cannot return this year, that’s the only thing that opens up space for incoming transfers this unusual admissions year. Again, I really hope I’m wrong - we will see.
@WCWSM52 The problem with your theory is it isn’t really based on anything tangible yet. Although I agree with you that the COVID-19 will have some affect on admissions, I find it unlikely to have a huge overall impact as of right now.
There are going to be plenty of USC students who defer or outright drop out within the next few months. Along with students who cannot accept admissions due to changes in income, health concerns, family issues, and even the fact that LA is one of the “hot spots” for this virus. If you look on USC"s subreddit, there have been kids talking about it for a few weeks now.
USC has never really put much thought into housing for transfers. Historically, transfers receive almost no help in that department already. USC is obviously considering all sides of this, I have no doubt of that. However, if we look across the board at ALL colleges throughout the U.S. can we point to ANY that have had huge reductions in transfer admissions due to COVID-19?
From my perspective, it has been business as usual for these colleges. I haven’t seen any colleges drastically reduce admissions. I find it very unlikely that USC would do anything different. I know it feels like the end of the world right now but it isn’t.
USC is making us wait longer than we wanted but it is their right to do it. We are playing their game.
@NavyGuy2019 I really hope you’re right!!
Since they won’t know yet about all students who will defer or drop out in this unusual year, and might not know for certain until tuition is actually due in August, maybe they will keep some transfer applicants as later options. Not sure how they will deal with replacing lost students later in the summer if they’ve sent out all transfer decisions by mid-June. They don’t really maintain a waitlist.
They admitted more and the yield is higher than they planned, so they aren’t lacking for students. I don’t think USC is one of those schools where as many people drop out or defer. The majority of people there are full pay, and those folks aren’t as impacted by things (they planned this for a long time or just have the funds). The news out there is big, but there is still plenty of people that life goes on as planned. A college campus like USC could be one of the safest places to be.
There’s a lot of drama on the threads, but a lot of it is just drama. Gotta zoom out of this situation and look ahead. Not sure how many that have their heart set on USC or any great school want to be at home for another year, if they have the option to attend.
Housing for transfers is unlikely, but that is the same as it has always been as well.
Right, but for those who get Spring Grade Request that spring current quarter (this is my case) does not end until middle of June, then you wont get a decision by May 31, or what would be the point of requesting them if you won’t have them until late June, thus in those cases makes sense to not get a decision until after your spring quarter grades are out and submitted, which in my case wont be until at least June 20.
