2020-2021 USC Transfer

Just to clarify cause I’ve seen so many different things on SGR. Basically if you get a SGR they already have an idea regarding your decision, but they’re just using your grades from this semester as the kind of confirmation of your rejection or acceptance? I know this is NOT a guaranteed acceptance or rejection, but USC already has an idea what decision they are going to give you and these grades are just the final piece of the puzzle?

@sleeplessincali Getting an SGR means USC does not have enough information to make a decision, and is not an indicator of admission. This blog post from USC will have enough information.

I know there are some Navy guys on this forum, does anybody know how this will affect the NROTC 2-3 year scholarship? It sounds like the due date is still May 31st, but in order the qualify you must first be admitted to the school and work out a class plan with an academic advisor. Obviously this isn’t a viable option if decisions are coming out the day that the scholarship is due. Am I screwed here?

@usctransfersquad Thank you for the link and clarification! I only asked because I have straight As with over 80 units, so based on what some other members have mentioned here it seemed to line up with my situation considering if i got a 4.0 this semester it wouldn’t really be contributing much to my application overall. I’m finishing my third semester language requirement this semester but finished all my other GEs and major prep courses, do you think this would be grounds for them to not have enough information and sending the SGR? I found it odd if they sent a SGR for that one requirement, but idk

SCA acceptances were released around this time last year, best of luck to everyone.

Just curious if anyone knows about USC’s policies for deferral for incoming students? I have heard students can defer for up to a year but wasn’t sure if that only applied for students already enrolled.

In 2018 and for a few years prior they released the big bang (rejections and all) this weekend on Saturday night/Sunday morning. Yes, over the holiday weekend. But the week (this time now) before was also very lively with acceptances when they did that. Instead now, it’s pretty much

As a transfer student you are allowed to defer for a year, however you cannot take classes at another school during that year, otherwise you will have to re-apply. If you are accepted for the fall 2020 semester and want to defer to spring 2021 , then you can take classes during that fall semester. If you are accepted for the spring 2021 semester and want to defer to the fall 2021 semester, you are not allowed to take classes during the previous fall semester or the spring semester .

I know this is a lot of info haha but usc is actually very strict about this.

@hermit1214
All I saw was SCA acceptances and felt a wince of anxiety LOL
I’m so desperate to knoooow I gotta start figuring out what my next steps will be ;__;

@anotherbun Don’t worry, I’m on the same boat. All I could think of right now are the positive stuff that I received from USC (which is the interview and that email from the asst director of admissions for a screenshot of my in-progress coursework/current grades). I’m still hella nervous though.

Hey everyone. A longtime follower of this space but this is my first time posting.

I am a rising sophomore applicant with an application submitted for the SCA Film/TV production major. I have found some unfortunate information today – I am not sure how I missed it, but The Film/TV major requires a minimum of 48 credits to transfer.

I have completed 32 credits as of now at another top ten private film school on the east coast with a standing of a 3.8 GPA and am transferring for mainly due to social environment (or lack thereof at my uni), but I feel as though I am going to be automatically denied from the major due to this requirement, despite what I have been told by an admissions officer today where she stated: “it is not an automatic disqualification”.

The credits cannot be from AP/IB, but I have earned 8 credits from Stanford Pre-Collegiate (A Grade – 4.0 GPA); however, I was waiting to use them once matriculated into the university with my counselor to bypass some early film/design-focused requirements so I did not submit them with my other transcripts. I know that this does not bring me up to 48 either, but it is closer to that figure at least.

I decided on a second-choice major of Cinema Studies which only requires 32 credits, and I understand that an applicant is considered for their second-choice major if they pass the overall USC admissions process and are subsequently not accepted to their first-choice major.

My major concern with this all is that I believe this is one of the strongest applications that I have ever submitted (grades, essays, supplemental materials, etc.) so I have considered withdrawing my application to save them for when I have 48 credits. Even then, though, I am not sure if it would be ethical or even acceptable to submit the same essays despite never having received a decision based on them.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated – I feel very conflicted and that I have kind of let myself down with this process. I still have four other pending applications, but I was beginning to gain hope with USC given my stats/app/essays.

Thanks, and good luck to everyone who is currently awaiting a decision.

I haven’t gotten one, but I’d find an interview extremely encouraging as their time is so valuable right now, they maybe took the time for a reason (at least that’s my speculation). Congrats on getting that interview. but I am curious, the assistant director of admission did a personalized email or was it like a mass email for missing document? I got an email at some point, that I needed to turn something in, but I assumed it was a mass mail.

Does anyone know for sure if a decision wave comes out today?

Hey everyone. A longtime follower of this space but this is my first time posting. I am a rising sophomore applicant with an application submitted for the SCA Film and TV Production program. I have found some unfortunate information today – I have no idea how I missed this, but this specific major requires 48 credits to transfer.

At present, I have completed 32 credits at another top-ten private film school on the east coast and am transferring due to the social environment (or lack thereof), and have a standing of a 3.8 GPA (with a 3.925 this semester). With this information, I feel now that I will be automatically denied from my major despite what I was told by an admissions officer today, who stated: “this does not warrant an immediate disqualification”.

I know that the credits cannot be AP/IB, and I have an additional 8 credits from Stanford Pre-Collegiate (A Grade – 4.0 GPA); however, I did not submit these credits with my other transcripts as I was waiting until after matriculation to work with my counselor on using them to bypass some early film/design requirements for my major. Even if this does not add up to 48 credits, it is at least closer to that figure.

I decided on my second-choice major to be the Cinema Studies B.A. which only requires 32 credits to transfer. I’m aware that USC considers applicants for their second-choice major after they are accepted by USC general admissions but are not for their first-choice major. I don’t know what path to take, considering I can’t see what they feel about my credit amount. With four other applications pending, I am not at the last resort, but I was beginning to gain hope in USC with my stats/app/essays…

I am not sure if I should just withdraw my application so I can use the materials when I have 48 credits. I believe that this is one of my strongest-ever applications, and I do not want these essays/supplements to go to waste. Even then, I am not sure if it would be ethical or even acceptable to reuse them on a later application.

I am really conflicted about what I should do and feel that I have let myself down in this process. So, any advice or info would be greatly appreciated. Good luck to everyone else who is currently awaiting a decision. Thanks.

@grapesoda2 It was a personalized email, it was from the assistant director of admissions of SCA. She just requested to see a screenshot of my in-progress coursework/grades and gave me a hard deadline (1 day). So I guess it wasn’t a typical SGR.

There’s only one other person that I know that got an email like that, but it was from an admission counselor (and she was given like 4-5 days to email it).

I will have my AA Art & Applied Science four year transfer degree completed at the end of my current Spring quarter, which does not end until June 19, thus far I have 82 credits and at end of spring quarter will have 90, which includes English, Math, 3 semester of foreign language (SCA requires), science etc. I received a WGR about 2 1/2 months ago and Sping Grades about 1 1/2 months ago.

yes that does sound very encouraging imo! good luck!

Has there been a big wave of acceptances yet? I feel like there hasn’t but maybe I am wrong?

Is USC done w/admissions (specifically to Marshall)? I’m wondering if we are just waiting for denial in 8-days.

@Bellevue34 The 3 semesters of a foreign language is not a requirement for transfer. You’re required to get it done at some point, either before or after you get admitted to USC. It is highly recommended to get it done though. (I’m planning on testing out of the foreign language requirement since I was born and raised in the Philippines)

The main requirement for transfer is the 48 transferrable credits.
