2020-2021 USC Transfer

Does any Marshall applicant know if taking Accounting 1 (which is intro to financial accounting for my school) is mandatory? Do you think if I drop it, it would affect my admission?
I heard from a friend who got accepted that the credits for accounting don’t transfer to USC so theres kinda no point in taking the class?
I’ve completed all prereqs and GEs with decent grades before Spring.

Edit: Last year, I asked one of the Directors of Admissions if I should take it, he said if I’m not an accounting major, its optional… I know I shouldn’t be doubting the man but…

So I’m at an OOS 4 year university applying for CS at Viterbi, and I fulfilled the required courses (not every single “recommended” one though – missing some physics because I’m currently on a BA path). Are my chances at getting in severely impacted by not following the TTP like others, even if everything else on my app is good? I know a lot of CA schools are based on fulfilling prereqs and GEs, but my course load doesn’t follow any specific plan for another school because I didn’t know which one would be my top choice.

@erina19 Accounting 1 should transfer as credit to USC. It’s only the Accounting courses after 1 and 2 that start to become iffy on whether or not they transfer for credit. It’s not a mandatory course to take for Marshall before transferring, but it definitely will help your case and make you a more competitive applicant. I would stick with the class if you can pull out a good grade at the end but if you’re feeling overwhelmed then do what feels best for you!

@erina19 The only required courses for transfer are the English and math requirements. (I’m a Marshall applicant as well)

However, I’m not an accounting major so I’m not sure if there is an extra requirement outside of the two I stated above. As @Worldchamp24 said, accounting does transfer over. What I was personally told when I attended a transfer day was that business classes taken at a ccc do not transfer.

@arjauregui I just called. They told me that they had all my info but hadn’t pulled my FAFSA and CSS Profile yet, but would be doing so in the next 48 hours. I’m kind of confused.

@LNK1999 I am currently calling right now. Hopefully the same is said for me!

@arjauregui Let me know if you hear something similar! I didn’t really understand what they were trying to tell me so maybe you can provide some more insight, lol.

@LNK1999 I have been on hold for the past 20 minutes lol. Hopefully I hear something soon!

What are y’all that are calling asking about? Please update us all on what happens!

@LNK1999 Hey, I just got off the phone with the financial aid office. So he said that I did not state my social security on my USC application, therefore they are not able to link it to my FAST profile. I gave them my social security and he said it should update in about 48 hrs. Was this the same response you got from the person you spoke with over the phone?

@dood523 just calling to ask why our FAST profiles said “Action Required”!
@arjauregui they just told me that they would be downloading my fafsa and css in the next 48 hours and that they might request some extra information. I’m gonna guess it was probably the same issue.

@LNK1999 I am assuming it is the same exact issue. Let me know what happens within the next 48 hrs. I will also keep you updated

Any SCA applicants here?

Hey guys! If I am applying as an international applicant, coming from one of the top universities in Mexico and given recognition for my high GPA, do you think I got a serious chance? I also have an SAT of 1420

@arjauregui @LNK1999 My FAST portal says “action required” too but I put my SSN on the USC application as well as the CSS Profile. Do you think I should call them too? Or just wait? Only asking because I submitted my CSS profile on the day of the deadline so maybe they’re still processing some?

@TransferGuy08 I mean I don’t think it would hurt to call them. I would rather have them tell me personally they have all of the information rather than to assume they do. I would call as soon as they open! I was on hold for a solid 45min before someone answered my call. I called around 11:30 am

@sleeplessincali it does not matter what major you applied for, it is more based on the school. Every major in Dornsife is not impacted, meaning they are all an equal chance. So as a psych applicant you have the same chance as someone applying for African Studies and Political Science for example. In past threads it seemed Dornsife accepted the most transfers (it is the largest school after all). That is just from my observation, the information about impacted majors came straight from the lead counseler from an in-person Transfer Day Session. Hope that helps.

@arjauregui @LNK1999 @TransferGuy08 Hey all, I decided to join in and call too because I got worried bc mine says action required and on my “Required Info and Forms” page, it says there’s no required or received documents. So I called and apparently there was some weird error and the person on the line was very helpful and checked herself. She said she received my CSS Profile and my FAFSA application, but for some reason, it wasn’t automatically updated so she is going to manually update it herself. She said within 3-5 business days, it should update, but I should keep an eye on it because they might ask for additional documentation.

So if your FAST profile still says action required, I HIGHLY recommend that you call the financial aid office. Will update you when my FAST profile updates

Did anyone ask when we can expect to see a first wave of admissions?

@nbrewer Thank you!!
