2020-2021 USC Transfer

@mexboy from which university exactly ???

If you guys think financial doesn’t play a major role in whether they accept you or not, y’all CRAZY, there are tons of articles about it, from people who read applications themselves.

COLLEGE IS A ALSO A BUSINESS, ad they prefer people who’d pay for it no people needing 100% help. Some get accepted, and their financial package is not enough, and there are other forms of weed out applicants.

Not trying to be negative to those applying for financial aid, of course, there’s help, but if you had on the table a perfect student, but that is a poor (needs financial aid) and a okay student who could pay FULL tuition… you as a PRIVATE institution who would you pick?

Ever wonder schools such as Stanford, USC, and Princeton the majority of students are rich and white? The international students pay even more, the wealthy.

Anyone else here have a lower GPA? I’m applying with a 3.5 from an out of state community college and I’m definitely nervous it’s not enough to get in.

@Doodlesack Very well said. It is just one of those things that are inevitable. No matter how much a school says they aren’t need-aware, they are to some extent. Like you said, in the end, it is a business.

Hi! I agree with your point wholeheartedly about colleges being a business. My only question was that I thought USC is need-blind, meaning your ability to pay does not affect your acceptance.

Regardless, I envision many colleges who state they are need-blind, yet still, review student’s potential ability to pay prior to accepting them.

@ON5000 yup you are exactly right. You can bet that USC and all these other need-blind colleges for that matter, still check to see where a student’s financing is at, especially if they are on the fence about accepting them.

But at the end of the day USC is getting BILLIONS in alumni donations every year, and if they feel that you’re going to be successful and one day contribute back to USC they’ll look at you seriously. They truly cannot be aware of every applicants financials when making these decisions, and I feel like the way it was worded made it seem like if you’re poor USC won’t accept you when that’s not the case. I had application help this year from a professional and she said USC has been actively trying to accept more low income students this year because of what happened. I’m just saying this for anyone reading this thread who may feel disheartened by the comments mentioned above. Financials matter but in terms of whether or not it will work against you is a matter of timing.

@LNK1999 I also applied at USC’s SCA Film Production, and I only have a 3.5 in a CC here in California. I think it depends on which program you’re applying to, they say that in SCA they look at your application holistically. So I’m hoping that besides my grades, they also look into my service in the military and all that jazz.

@LNK1999 I went to a transfer day at USC and an admissions counselor told me that last year they admitted a transfer with a 2.9 GPA. So it just depends on how good your essays are, ECs too most likely.

@hermit1214 i applied film production

@ascendiox hey there bud! I applied for production too! did you get any interview requests?

@hermit1214 no, I didn’t.

Well, I heard 50% of those that are accepted didn’t get interviewed, and those that did are probably “on the bubble”. So I’m kinda nervous about it since I’m scheduled for one tomorrow.

Good luck! I’m sure you’ll do great

@heyigotnoclue if you didn’t get one of what? A request to skype or a request for grades?

@ascendiox Thanks! What genre did you send for your visual submission?

@sleeplessincali I appreciate you writing that in this forum. Needed to be said!

How do you find your counselours email? I know the name but their email is not being displayed.

@Doodlesack When I search my community college, I select the one that pops up and the counselors name and email is stated.

Instituto Tecnólogico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey. USC has taken other transfer applicants from my school with about a 3.6 GPA. I have a 3.8, so I hope I have good chances
