2020-2021 USC Transfer

@hermit1214 my film was a drama.

I also applied film production at UCLA but I read that for them if I didn’t get an interview I probably didn’t get in lol. Sucks that they don’t consider alternate majors either. But maybe if I don’t get in SCA I’ll get in Annenberg.

@Doodlesack The emails are only displayed sometimes, not always. I think the website only shows emails during working hours.

does anyone know if there is a big difference between the number of acceptances between sophomore and junior transfers? I know this was kind of ans.wered before, but it seems like a lot of the sophomore spots are taken by TTP applicants… I have a 4.0 and lots of extracurriculars + work/internships, and great essays, yet I still feel like my chances are low because I am a first year.

Just like your handle your sleeping on the fact that they’re aware of student financials, what the heck you think is the reason they ask you if you’re planning on asking for aid at the beginning of your application in the common app!!! hahaha do your research, please.

About those BILLIONS you talk about, do you know how many billions it took to build their new village, forreals do you? do you know how important is to keep their endowment high to compete with the other ivy leagues, USC wants to become an ivy of the west coast and they’ve that ambition, it’s good. Los Ángeles land is expensive and maintenance it is even more.

In LA 1 million dollars is not a lot of money… in LA an over 10 billion endowment from a private school is NOT a lot of money.

Yes, I’m sure someone got a full ride but I wouldn’t think many did, whole year tuition at USC is somebody’s full-year pay at the same institution. Poor people will always have it hard, PERIODT.

They don’t give statistics about the kind of students they’ve been trying to recruit they have a program for poor students who live within the area can’t remember the name but they do so to not be left out on not being a “diverse institution” the neighborhood program is the perfect example, USC is in an extremely poor area of DTLA, it amazes me how it all changes when you leave the schools area, all the homeless on the street and stuff.

If you’re offering a school 70k yearly for 4 years while not being the best student I don’t know why they wouldn’t say no  it’s all a campaign, schools do campaigns to lure, make people dream and get clout from the press to gain global recognition aka RANKINGS.

Goodluck yall!

I have my interview in 3 hours. UGH. so nervous.

@nbrewer It all depends on context. If you’re currently at a cc (preferably a California cc), then they will look at you differently than a junior transfer from a four year. There’s slight preference towards community college kids because they NEED to transfer out in certain circumstances (like they have too many credits and staying another year really would be useless for them or they are ineligible to apply to other schools because of the credit caps like UCLA). But, if you’re already at a four year most California colleges will tend to not be as lenient with you because you’re technically committed to a four year and community college kids are not. This happened to me last year with a lot of schools because I left my previous four year, and even though I was attending a cc they didn’t look at me as seriously even though I had straight As from a top university and great ECs. Since you’re younger it is a disadvantage (not gonna lie), but your grades speak for themselves and you seem like a strong applicant so at the end of the day that really helps your case. At the end of the day they want to make sure you’re going to maintain your stellar grades THROUGHOUT college rather than your first year, which you’re proving right now. Don’t discredit yourself, a 4.0 even in freshman year is hard to attain and they know that. I hope this helps!

@nbrewer im in the exact same boat as you! of course, transfer spots are filler spots so we are primarily competing for spots that current USC-students don’t take for our majors. i believe that we have a good chance though at a 4.0 cc standing, even if we are sophomores! good luck to you

@hermit1214 Interview for what school? Spill the tea, how did it go!??

Update for the financial aid thing: My FAST portal updated and now it says “[GREEN CHECK] Eligibility Checks received, [GREEN CHECK] Application started, [YELLOW TIMER] Application in Review” Needed to submit some additional documents, the yellow timer says “Your financial aid application is currently in review. Please Note: We will notify you during the review process if additional documents are required. Financial Aid Summaries for transfer students will be released in early May.”

@historylover5 did not display during working hours seems I should call them then?

@mexboy yeah thats a posh uni in Mexico, in which campus are you at?

Do I have to call financial aid if it says:

APPLICATION STATUS

If you have not already done so, you can apply for federal or USC need-based financial aid by submitting a FAFSA.

The Required Information and Forms Page might not reflect your FAFSA or CSS Profile submission until mid-November.

If you did not include your Social Security Number on your application for admission, please submit a Student Social Security Number Information Form, which is available in the Document Library, to update your record.

Applicants for a Federal Direct PLUS Loan must submit a FAFSA and complete a Financial Aid Supplement.

If you are not applying for financial aid but expect to receive a scholarship, please direct questions to the issuing department or organization.

@Doodlesack yeah then I recommend calling

@Doodlesack yep, def recommend calling.

@Doodlesack I interviewed with USC SCA Film prod professor. I think it went well, he said that I shouldn’t try to stress about it too much because I sent in a strong application.

I’m still worried though, I’ve seen the stats the people have on here and mine is pretty subpar compared to everyone else’s (I only have a 3.5). The only thing that probably was interesting in my application was that I served in the military for 5 years.

@hermit1214 That sounds amazing!! I mean he could have really said nothing to you so the fact he even said your app was strong is really dope.

@uschopeful23 in even better news, I am pretty sure USC puts aside spots for transfers, so regardless on the retention rate, the number of transfers they will accept will be predetermined. The one downside to that (which is what I was concerned with in my previous comment) is that many of those transfer spots will be saved for expected TTP applicants, and most TTP transfers go in their sophomore year.

@sleeplessincali thanks! but I thought they just tell everyone that. haha.

I hope I do get in though.

@hermit1214 film school cares the least about scores out of all the schools, they definitely favor essays, experience and the overall person rather than numbers. being in the military definitely puts you as a standout candidate, and I don’t think he would have mentioned a strong application if he didn’t mean it, I doubt that wording is thrown around loosely. nice job!! fingers crossed for you.
