2020-2021 USC Transfer

@hermit1214 I applied sca as well! you made me nervous when you first said you got an interview because I haven’t been asked for one but I also read your post that they kinda do half and half for interviews so I’m trying to calm my anxieties lol. congrats!! best of luck to you, keep me updated! I hope sca comes out sooner rather than later…

also, to everyone, my best friend has been going to USC her entire college career and she said the university’s new president has been extremely transparent with the school, especially during this weird time. she sent out an email essentially explaining how the school is very wealthy, obviously as everyone knows, and the previous president was really great at fundraising and brought in a lot of the money for the school. with that being said, they are going to be cutting down on a lot of the university’s usual events and things like non-essential travel so as to save money because they plan on spending more this year than they make while they try to help out staff and students as much as possible, meaning they don’t want to let any faculty go and want to help out more with financial aid. my friend says she thinks this means a lot more transfers will be accepted since we aren’t as much of a financial burden as first-years, but also I believe (could be wrong, have not fact checked this) they let in a higher percent of first-years as well because they’re expecting a lower retention rate with everything going on economically. fingers crossed this is the case! I’m sure we could all use some good news right now!

Did anyone else receive a winter grade request? I go to a quarter system school

I have not. @mckennadavis when did you get the request

2 days ago @marlon01

Are you a first year? I think mostly first years receive the winter grade request but I could be wrong

@dood523 I am. Do you know if this correlates to a speedier admission decision?

@nbrewer Thanks! I’m just worrying quite a bit, just hoping for the best now.

@mckennadavis I’m not too sure - I just knew it was mostly freshman because I am a 2nd year currently and did not receive a request for winter grades while my 2 first year friends did get a request

@collegeappusc thanks! and yes, I read somewhere that they only interview people they find interesting and feel like they need to know more about the candidate to have a better grasp on how they are as a person. I think that was the case for mine since I probably forgot to mention some important parts of my essays (for example, I only mentioned being in the military, but never expounded on my experiences there).

what is the point of a winter grade request? is that for quarter system schools only? like what is the reasoning behind someone getting a winter grade reuqest versus a spring one?

@nbrewer they do a winter grade request since your winter grades are complete already. They might do a sgr too later on though im not too sure

@nbrewer @collegeappusc i really hope there are a lot more transfer spots this year!

another thing, last year transfers started getting notified of SGRs and decisions around april 12th. do you think it’ll be the same this time around?

@Doodlesack I am actually quite surpirsed you know about it and its campuses haha. May I ask how you know? I am at the Monterrey Campus

@mexboy wow monterrey tech is a great school! i hope everything goes well with your transfer process.

@historylover5 do you have their number?

@hermit1214 military = THE BESSSSSSSST THING TO GET IN.

@mexboy I don’t know too hahaha I guess because I’ve met like 4 in Europe, saw some rankings and then in NYC I met randomly two alumni in one of nyc’s best bars then an older guy was setting up a business near my house in Santa Monica, they all mentioned TEC if I wanted to do a semester in Mexico, they also all were white Mexicans and rich lol I had to double ask

@Doodlesack i think its a factor, but its not the most important thing if I remember correctly. I just hope it helps.
