@CADREAMIN Do you think I should live close to campus this fall? USC has just announced that classes will be online and on campus activities are limited. Is it still worth the money to do stay close to campus with not much resources available? Thank you so much for your help
@zaggeryyyyy It sounds like they are really encouraging people not to live on/near campus if they don’t have in person classes. From the letter:
On-campus Housing and Dining
Earlier this week we announced we will limit housing to one student per bedroom in our residence halls, suites, and apartments. The city also expects USC to hold a number of rooms vacant to provide quarantine space should a surge occur during the semester. As a result, our availability is less than half of what it would normally be.
We will honor current contracts, but room assignments and building locations will change, in order to adhere to the one student per bedroom requirement. We encourage all students holding contracts – particularly those who do not have any in-person classes or who live in the greater Los Angeles area – to reconsider on-campus housing. The deadline to cancel an existing contract or housing application in order to have a full refund of fees or deposit has been extended to July 15.
After your class schedule is done (when they update next week) and if it looks like they are online, it may be good to save the money if you have a less expensive alternative. It’s sad that people will miss the on campus experience, but it is what it is. But if you need a place to live anyway, and depending on the finance part of it, you can still look near campus if you want to feel more a part of it/closer to it. A lot of people are already in leases they can’t get out of (like us) so they will be going back. (Plus my D is ready to go!) Sorry, I don’t think I am giving good advice here, just thinking it through with you. It really depends on current situation, where you want to live, and the financial part of it. You certainly don’t need to or have to if you are doing online obviously. This is crazy, but this too shall pass. Just not soon enough!
Since housing is one student per room, will the price of housing also go up?
If I were a transfer I would put chance of getting housing as pretty close to zero. Be looking for outside housing. This was put out today for incoming freshman who have priority over transfers (as do rising sophomores that requested housing). It’s the wild wild west out here, things are a bit crazy.
USC Housing assignments are not guaranteed. It is expected that approximately only 25% of current applicants will receive an assignment. Assignments will be prioritized for students whose study requires in-person education, are in named scholarship and athletics programs, who may require special accommodations, or are international students. The next priority will be given to students who reside further from campus. There will be no roommate groups facilitated in the assignment process due to the single occupant per bedroom requirement.
hi guys, im late to the party but im turning down my spot for fall 2020. i got into marshall but considering that they raised tuition and offered no housing for transfers, i figured it’s best to attend another university. i tried appealing my financial aid 3 times, but got a pretty negative response from their department which was extremely off-putting.
just fyi, given the ongoing and worsening covid situation, usc is probably AGAIN gonna lock down the campus and so, just think about that after financial aid and the price that comes with it.
i hope that someone gets into fall and are happy with their choice! best of luck everyone!
If my major is performance based (Theater, acting) would I still have a chance to getting housing as a transfer? Since freshman and sophomores are prioritized before us, but I my major kinda requires in-person learning cause I’m not sure how effective is it to learn acting online.
@Windsky They say priority is given to in person majors which you would be and hopefully works out for you and others in same boat. Just have to see how it plays out.
@CADREAMIN alright, cool thanks!
Don’t mean to be negative about housing, even in a normal year, the chance of transfers getting housing is very slim and this year is extraordinary in it’s unpredictability. There’s a lot of housing around campus and as typically a more mature student, transfers may like living outside in off campus housing where there aren’t restrictions of who can come in and when, checking in, etc. The neighborhood around USC is one big community! So don’t fear outside housing, it can be a lot of fun!
Hey guys, so I’m still waiting on a decision. I got an SGR back in April and submitted/received in May. I am still waiting on a decision, withdraw button is still there, and I emailed my advisor who has assured me that my profile is still being reviewed and that I should get a decision soon. I have attended school at a few different locations but earned the bulk of it in VA. I submitted my application with awesome letters of recommendation from my boss in the military and my business professor. I have currently taken 13 credits and have a 3.8 GPA. But have alot of credits from my other schools not to mention credits from my military courses, JST, and leadership classes. I just wanted to get some insight on why it is possibly delayed and what I should expect.
Thanks
do you guys think they will give a decision today? its friday.
@erina19 I hope so but at this point it seems pretty random. I don’t think there is a pattern, from what I’ve seen there are a couple ppl that get decisions on here every day.
@Khalid55 It seems that this year’s admission team is showing favor to past military, and you have a GPA above 3.7. So it sounds like you have a good chance of being admitted!
As to insight on the delay, I think they are trying to solve a very difficult puzzle- trying to fill spots as they come available. I also think with this climate, they are addressing admissions with diversity in mind, being careful not to favor the privileged, especially legacy and wealthy applicants. They need to be mindful of the financial services offered, as they will expect lower endowment due to the COVID economy.
They clearly see something special in you, as you have not been declined yet. They are just trying to see if your puzzle piece fits their puzzle.
hey guys i applied as a bio major kinda concerned i haven’t gotten an answer yet I got an SGR in april i did my second major as a psych . I said pre med idk if im still gonna do that but still they haven’t given me a decision kinda concerned i applied with a 3.8 and i got a b in chem one of my major requirements . Idk at this point its so late for an answer and im losing hope because now my gpa is a 3.7 idk what to think.
are you guys sophmores who are waiting as well?
@makeupyourmind awesome insight and I appreciate your time in replying to my post. It makes sense, especially considering our current situation. I will stay posted and reveal my decision as it come forth, whatever it is. Good luck to everyone else!
SHEESH! July 6th. hopefully lots of decisions today… best of luck everyone, ily all
nothing again. lets gooooooo
At this point, they are just being cruel, lol!
Based on last year’s admission, I think there will be a big wave on Friday. Finger crossed!
I got an email with a status update at 5:49 pm today. I didn’t know until an hour after because most people are receiving decisions at around 5:00 to 5:30 (and as a result I thought I wouldn’t be getting a decision today). Accepted as sophomore TTP as an undecided major for Spring 2021. Initially applied for Annenberg…maybe there aren’t many spots left? Also I sent in my spring grades on June 16th. Good luck to whoever is still waiting for a decision!
