2020-2021 USC Transfer

that’s great to hear! thank you @CADREAMIN

I wonder if USC considers one’s major GPA in addition to one’s overall GPA and how the admissions committee views each.

@tmsavage They will look at how you perform in both. Not sure which is most important to them, but they want to see you make progress on your GE’s and major prep recommended/required courses. I believe the last time I checked the overall GPA acceptance is 3.7

@CADREAMIN does that mean we can find out anytime between now and end of May still? If so, usually what days do they post admission, or is it random?

@historylover5 In order to stop my admissions anxiety I’ve been assuming it’s going to be May 31st and if it happens before/ if anyone finds out any new info then it’s a happy surprise. I’ve given up since it seems that if they’re not even letting their TTP people know what’s going on then we definitely not getting any info right now :frowning:

@sleeplessincali probably what is best for all of us to do now. Wishing luck and peace for everyone!

In the meantime, did anyone have any particularly funny/creative short answers that they used for the app that they wanted to share? (Just thinking of ways to distract from the fact that this week is the beginning of the next few weeks of admissions decisions :smile: )

For the question about what class would you teach, I put “Intro to Tipping” because as a server, you’d be surprised at how many people don’t know how to tip. I’ve had coworkers get stiffed on $200 bills… So, I hope the admissions committee doesn’t think that answer is snobby or rude lol

I finished the writing and math requirement and all of my courses were GE’s. According to the transfer plan website, I had to take Spanish and International Politics so I finished those Spring 2019. Good luck!!! :slight_smile: @historylover5

For Best movie of all time I wrote:
La La Land, romantic at heart #sorrynotsorry

@flygaaaaaaal thanks for letting me know!!

@TransferGuy08 i love that! as a fellow server, i think everyone should have a serving job at one point in their life. i think they’ll like that (hopefully some of these admissions officers have worked service jobs haha)

I think I came off as too serious in most of those questions. I answered it as is. I didn’t think you can try to be funny there.

As for the class I’d be able to teach, I wrote “The Lore behind the League of Legends Universe”…

Context: I’m a psych major
For the short answer about what class you would teach I put “The Psychology of Dedication (MTWTHF 8:00AM)”. Really hope whoever reads my application has a good sense of humor

For the next tv show i would binge watch I put “Season 2 of Barry between 8pm to 6am”. Again, hoping the person reading my application likes my brutal honesty (because let’s be honest if I’m going to binge watch a whole show it’s definitely going to be at night…)

My other short answers were more serious but personable, just thought if I get rejected at least I (hopefully) made someone laugh

@TransferGuy08 i think it’s unique! You shouldn’t worry

@sleeplessincali thats actually funny

I’m kinda interested in what people wrote for their favorite books. I put in one of Haruki Murakami’s books.

@erina19 I put “survival of the sickest” which is a really cool book about evolutionary biology. I’m assuming that about 99% of the books that they have seen are ones they have never heard of

General question: I completed all of the GE classes listed on the transfer planning guide except for one class in the “CITIZENSHIP IN A DIVERSE WORLD” requirement. I emailed an admissions counselor a few months ago saying I could either complete the language requirement (finishing spanish 3 right now) or this CITIZENSHIP IN A DIVERSE WORLD requirement since they were both offered at the same time this semester, and she said either works. Do you guys think it would greatly impact my application? I ended up choosing to finish the language requirement because they made it sound like that was the more important class to finish, but now I’m not so sure.

(For context: I only had two major requirement courses and one was satisfied with a 5 on the AP exam and the other I got an A in)

it sounds like you’re alright, especially if your admission counselor said it doesn’t matter! it shouldn’t affect your chances imo!
