2020-2021 USC Transfer

I don’t know if you are going to transfer in as a sophomore or junior, but if the admissions counselor said you are fine, then you are fine! I know I didn’t complete all of my GE’s when I was at the community college, but since my major is Communication, once I arrived to USC it was required for me to take 2 GE’s within Dornsife. There I was able to finish my GE requirements and it worked out. On the other hand I know other transfer students who had finished all GE’s prior to going to USC, but still had to take those 2 extra GE classes at Dornsife. It can be any GE or from those you still need to complete. I needed to do life science so I did that once I arrived at USC.
I would not want to worry much about having to complete all GE’s because at the same time they accept holistically. Just if majority of courses transfer, you should be fine!
And as a transfer, depending on how many units you have taken, they don’t take into consideration your high school GPA. I for sure did not have a 3.7 GPA when I graduated high school, but since I wanted to transfer out after my first year in college, they would look at your high school transcript. If coming in as a junior, I wouldn’t worry much about it.
Hope I answered your questions!!

@sleeplessincali

@99suhjw It shouldn’t hurt you too much especially depending on your major. I know when I transferred I had 1 C. As long as you don’t have more than 2 W’s you should be fine with 1. At the same time they don’t look at only your grades but the overall package. :slight_smile:

I’ve noticed it’s been easier for students who transfer in from 4 year schools get into USC than those from the community college because more competition and more students trying to transfer too

@4yourhope I’m applying as a junior transfer, but I’m a third year in college right now. I have grades from UCSC, another t40 private, and community college so I’m definitely at the unit cap for juniors. I have about 85 quarter units, so thank you for mentioning that if you have x amounts of credits they don’t even consider your high school GPA!

So does anybody know if we receive a financial aid package even if we don’t have an admissions decision by that time?

i had emailed my transfer counselor and he said that as long as you will complete 30 units by the time you TRANSFER, they will not rely heavily on your HS GPA/scores. that’s why most sophomore transfers below 30 units at the time of application will get an SGR if they’re still being considered!

Hi everyone, I’m here to ask what is your advice into transferring to USC. I am a high school senior planning to ATTEND CSUF in the fall as a major in business admin. Therefore, at usc I would aim to get into the Marshall school of business. Since I have a clean slate I want to know what I should do? I’ve read through a lot of the transfer brochures from USC, but I want raw advice on what to do, what’s the best way to go? Also, it is realistic to be able to transfer into Marshall? I was thinking transferring in junior year, but now I am considering going in earlier, sophomore year.

i’ll let you wait for those who have successfully transferred to reply, but i’ll just throw in that i’m a college freshman trying to transfer, and honestly if it’s where you wanna be, go for it! not as many people apply in their sophomore year so what’s the damage? unless you really feel unprepared, or that your resume after 2 years of college will be vastly more impressive. if you make your first year really count and do well, i’d definitely say pick all transferrable classes that USC wants and go for it!

@sleeplessincali You’re welcome. Best wishes to you!
@TransferGuy08 I didn’t receive my financial aid package until a week later but then they needed some extra forms from me.
@student642 I recommend by taking GE courses that may be equivalent. Also since you’re interested in going to the business school, try to take math requirements needed. You can find the transfer planning guide or look at the articulation agreement. Since you’re not going to the community college, you might not find your answers, but try looking what may be equivalent when you are enrolling for classes.

@4yourhope CSUF does have a articulation history, do you think it is too competitive to get into Marshall buisness school as a transfer? Also, what were your stats like? To go in a sophomore I don’t know if it’s realistic. Also, how is financial aid? Do they give a good amount of money to transfers??

Hey guys, i sent an email about a problem with my hs transcript and got a reply from my counselor and he said to not worry about the hs transcript and said “Your application is under reviewed and we will let you know of your Admission decision in the coming weeks”… does this mean decisions come out soon?

@erina19 I believe the bulk of rejections come on and after the 31st. As far as coming before then, I think those are almost always acceptances- I have never heard of anyone getting rejected before then, though I could be wrong.

the portal is the one with the application checklist and upload materials section right?

@erina19 interesting, I guess so!?

@alexiv24 yeah that is your portal

Did anybody get a spring grade request as a sophomore (or junior) transfer?

@student642 I know some sophomore transfers who got into USC and are part of the business school! It’s doable, just know it will be a lot of work and studying for your first year.
I had transferred out of the community college with a 3.68 GPA, but my high school grades were just average at about a 3.6
I sometimes wonder how I got accepted but you just tell them who you are in the essays!
My first year at USC, financial aid was good. No loans for me. Now for my junior year it got a little more expensive but I also accepted loans in addition to it. I come from a middle class family. I am a commuter so I dont pay for any off campus housing.

@student642 I have a friend who transferred as a sophomore to Marshall. They were in CC for 3 semesters (Fall, Winter, Spring) with a 4.0, and completed the English/math requirements during those semesters. They didn’t complete the GE’s and got accepted. I hope this helps!

For anyone that has any input

I’m currently enrolled at a 4 year university (semester system) as a freshman and is planning to transfer to USC on TTP as a sophmore. I am applying for Viterbi under Computer Science(Games) and maintained a 3.73 GPA my first semester. I completed Calculus 1 and Physics 1 my first semester and earned an A and B respectively. For this current semester, I am taking Calculus 2 this semester but I wasn’t able to enroll in Physics 2 due to the class being full and it also being not a requirement for CS students at my current university. I’m expecting a SGR for this current semester because Calculus 2 is a required course for Comp Sci students. Will not taking the next level of Physics hurt me drastically for my chances at being admitted for Computer Science (Games) ? I also did not take the English writing requirnment due to scheduling problems, but my TTP counseler said it was fine and that I could take it at USC once admitted.

I also put Buisness Admin as my second major, and have already completed the requiremnts for that (Calculus 1), will I be equally considered for this major and would I just have a better chance of getting in for this major ?

Thanks for any help.

@erina19 Do you know which semester your friend who got into Marshall took the calculus req? I’m currently taking it this spring so I’m curious.
