2020-2021 USC Transfer

@jazziscool The email said something like “because most admission decisions are released after the scholarship application deadline, most applicants will apply not knowing yet whether they have been admitted to USC”

@jazziscool I doubt it, they are just encouraging people to apply- it said in the email that they run completely separately from the admissions office, so there’s no way for them to know who they are sending the email to is accepted or not.

@jazziscool no, the scholarship is open to any transfer student, it doesn’t mean anything. although, i don’t understand why some people would not receive it.

Please help others out, it is such a tough process! If you are accepted please supply:

Accepted!

Soph or Junior transfer
TTP yes or no
Major/School accepted to

I got accepted for the Biological Sciences major as a freshman applicant (for fall 2020 sophomore). I’m a TTP!

Topping scholarship app doesn’t mean anything in terms of acceptance.

@mill213 I didn’t get anything so I’m just convincing myself its because since I have an EFC of $0, USC is going to give me a lot already so no need for a scholarship haha.

@PBJelly2020 Thanks! No, I wish haha

Would it be beneficial to submit an additional letter of recommendation at this point? My friend is a prominent member of USC athletics and wants to write a letter of rec. While this sounds great, I also don’t want to risk bothering my admissions counselor with something that they won’t take into consideration/won’t matter. Does anybody have any insight into such a situation?

Got SGR as junior applicant Viterbi engineering non-TTP

GPA: 3.97
Units: 123 (+21 this semester, no P/F)

Congrats if you got accepted! Fight on!

Just got a SGR as a Junior applicant for Viterbi CS, was TTP last year

@dooleys “Prominent member of USC athletics” may not mean what it used to and frankly, may not be a plus. I have several friends that are “head coach+ types” (meaning way up there in prominence) but not sure I would want them writing letters at this point. Any influence from an insider is not what it use to be (in every case). Does that make sense?

But it could be a plus. You would just have to gauge from them if it would truly be helpful. Meaning, it depends on who they are…and only you and they know that. As part of the USC team, he/she/they should know if it would be a good thing.

@CADREAMIN Is there usually waves of SGR’s just like there are waves of acceptances?

@PBJelly2020 Absolutely. They come out in bunches with the acceptances. But between the waves there are spits of requests too. One here or there.

SGRs are a good thing, means you aren’t out of the race.

@CADREAMIN how spread apart are the waves generally? Like once per week?

@CADREAMIN do you think the SGRs for schools like thornton, annenberg, and sca come out way later?

This week was expected time frame, then last week April/1st week of May tends to be another chunk. Most schools are involved in the waves to some degree, but Marshall usually hears early, Viterbi usually hears last, just a tradition. Doesn’t mean they are all done at the same time for a certain school, but there are certainly bursts from the schools. Annenberg was later last year too, not sure why.

@CADREAMIN do you know anything about when Dornsife releases their decisions?

@Hannahbanana69 how did you submit your midterm grades and when did you do so?
