So I didn’t receive an email from USC or anything but now my application checklist says awaiting Spring Grade Request. I guess that means I got SGR’d.
Stats for anyone curious: Non-TTP sophomore applicant
School that I’m applying to: Marshall
High School GPA: 4.5 or greater
College GPA: 4.0
GEs/Prereqs completed: All completed in fall except two science classes
Well that sucks, but pretty expected I guess. Anyone know if an early SGR like this is good or bad? Will I get my decision sooner than other SGRs?
@Tresno For me, I received a WGR two weeks ago. I guess that’s why I didn’t receive any decisions by now. However, I have another friend who goes to my school and a TTP also didn’t receive anything yet, which is weird. He submitted his winter grades right after the grades came out.
@CADREAMIN is it normal that TTPs don’t hear back by now?
Are there are junior transfer here who have gotten a SGR? I was getting nervous about not getting anything but was reminded that maybe having three years worth of grades may be enough for them to make a decision, but I’m not so sure anymore…
@sleeplessincali im a sophomore applicant (incoming junior) and haven’t received a WGR/SGR. I also have 42 credits completed and taking 19 this semester. I have a 4.0 and sent a mid-year transcript a few weeks ago since I have A’s in all my classes right now (USC didn’t request this I just did it because I figured it couldn’t hurt my app). I don’t think people like us who have a lot of credits done will receive a SGR, any decision they make they will probably base off of our current grades, unless in previous semesters your GPA was borderline then they might ask you for your spring grades to make a decision. just my thoughts
@mill213 Thank you for easing the anxiety lol. I’ve had straight As every semester except for my first quarter freshman year (those first college midterms really tanked my grades to a C+ and B ) and I currently have 85 units so I’m assuming they’re not going to ask for one because they have all the info they need. I’m on the same page as you, I hope we don’t get a SGR because it would definitely prolong the anxiety. Thank you for your thoughts and best of luck to you!!
I’m an incoming junior applicant with no SGR; similar situation to you guys, only one grade below an A (B) with 58 credits completed, so I’ve also been thinking that they may just be assuming that my grades are staying consistent.
@CHVRCHES That’s what I’m thinking too. I mean the transcripts verify academic success and predict future academic success, so I’m assuming that having a long history should give them all the info they need to make a decision? IDK watch us get a SGR tomorrow haha
I’m not sure if anyone here has withdrawn from a class since the change to online formats? There is a class I’m taking, that I don’t even think will transfer over to USC, and the professor is not adapting well to the online switch. I would rather withdraw (my school is allowing an Excused Withdraw) so it doesn’t alter my gpa or anything. I only had one other W in my application back in 2018 but it was also for a class that wouldn’t have transferred over. Anyone think it would be a big deal to drop this particular class? @CADREAMIN
@seabee91 if you think you’ll get a bad grade in the class, i think it’s okay because it really doesn’t affect your app. however, if you think you can push through and get an A or any good grade, i’d stay in it. wait for others to answer though, that’s just me!
@CADREAMIN Aw, I’m good. Just been busy ordering groceries and stuff at all hours of the day instead of procrastinating from my studies on here. I was actually supposed to be done with my grad program this year, but I went a little slower and it looks like next year should be the year I’m done (finally).
@seabee91 If you are headed for a bad grade, I would definitely drop the course. Getting a D or F is far worse than having another W. I had an issue somewhat similar to this. I had heart problems during the start of my spring semester prior to transfer and was in and out of the ER. I fell really behind in one of my classes. I was getting Ds on the exams. I knew there was no way to catch up and the class was not at all necessary. I just dropped the course and I was fine.
hey guys! I’m a current freshman applying for sophomore transfer and i was wondering if any of you had any info on when decisions are coming out and what their sophomore transfer acceptance rate is. i can’t seem to find very many sophomore transfer applicants in this thread or any info anywhere online
Hi everyone, I hope you all are staying safe. I have a quick question regarding the application that I sent out.
I am a first-gen college student and on accident, I put on my common application that my father attended some college without getting a degree. In actuality, my dad dropped out of high school to provide for my family and my mom was a high school graduate. As far as I know, there is no way to edit this information.
I doubt it, but is there any impact that this can have on my financial aid or admissions status? Wishing you all the best of luck, and I hope we all hear back soon!
@ejordan02 USC sends out decisions in very wide waves, so some may receive a decision in late april or even early june. it’s hard to give a definite date like some colleges do, but non-ttp applicants started receiving decisions late april of last year and waves came out every weekish until late may. i dont know much about how many sophomore/junior applicants are accepted as this isn’t public as far as I know.
@ON5000 I would contact USC about it. they like to accept first generation college students but if you did not discuss this at all in your application (in essays for example) then they will see your commonapp and may assume you are not a first gen. to be safe, I would contact admissions tomorrow, it could have a slight impact on your decision, but I don’t think it will have much impact on your financial aid. just my thoughts. best of luck!
@gman20011 if you have an unofficial copy you can upload it to your portal, or you can request an official copy and send it to them electronically, they’ll look at it either way
