@franzgzlz24 I have a 4.0 but taking the writing and math requirements in spring
How often are freshman applicants with prereqs done SGR’d? Is it basically given or do some get decisions off the bat?
Is there a certain number of credits that disqualify someone from getting an SGR? I’ve heard people with “a lot” of credits often don’t get one, and as someone with (what I think is) a lot of credits worrying about why they haven’t gotten a WGR or SGR yet, it’d be great to know the number if anyone knows! Thank you!
Hi everybody,
I’m currently taking Calc 2 right now but have finished all other pre-requisites for USC Marshall. Does taking Calc 2 in the spring put me at a disadvantage like it seems to do at UC’s? I have a 4.0 as well.
Thank you and I am looking forward for all of us to hear the good news soon
@bean01262020 Typically a fair majority come out around mid-May or so. They are also one of the later schools.
@collegeappusc That would be nice, haha. Sometimes it does happen though.
@raaazo If someone is going to get an SGR, yes, it would most likely be a freshman/one year applicant. It does happen, but USC just wants to see if you can keep a high GPA and that’s hard to determine with only 15-18 units/a semester’s worth of data to go on. For that reason, they like to SGR sophomore applicants. You can certainly get a decision outright though. Just as it’s sometimes possible for those with a higher number of units to get SGR’d as well .
Is it likely to hear back soon if I received a WGR already?
@dood523 Well, I remember an applicant many years ago who had over 60 units when he applied to Marshall, but he was taking business calc in the spring, so he got an SGR. He was a non-trad student and that’s why he had so many units. If you aren’t taking any important/required courses and have 45+ units, you are probably safe from getting an SGR. There are always special circumstances though. If your educational history is filled with gaps, that could be a reason. If it’s taken you awhile to get to 45+ units (say you were part-time), USC could potentially be curious to see how you do in a full-time semester if you haven’t taken many of them. The second time I applied, I had 81 units or so completed with another 18 in progress that spring, so I really didn’t see an SGR in my future.
Anyone know when Keck usually releases?
@hellohi145 do you even need calc 2 for marshall? I thought the only req was Calc 1 and Writing and then a recommended accounting credit
@franzgzlz24 Yeah you’re right. I got confused with how the UC’s require Calc 2 for my major. Now I just have to worry about my essays being good enough. I don’t think I went in-depth enough about the school so I’m a little worried.
Hi everyone,
I hope you are all doing well. I had a quick question regarding our choice of major. If I input an alternative major, will admissions really consider the second one, or will they just more than likely decline you? I know at the UC campuses they rarely look at your alternative major and I just wanted to get a better scope of how and if it affects admissions. Thank you all!
@ON5000 It was pointed out to me that you can’t have certain alternate majors down and be considered. For instance, the first time I applied, I chose Dornsife/Undecided (1st choice) and Computer Science/Games (2nd choice) as my two majors. It turns out that I was never considered for that Viterbi major since I didn’t have them as my first choice. People have said that it is rare to get admitted for your second choice major, but I don’t recall the reasons or why that seems to be the case as I’ve found that it does happen. It happened to me as well. I applied for anthropology (1st choice) and sociology (2nd choice). Maybe it was because both of my majors were in Dornsife. I found it really odd that I was admitted for my second choice major though when I had more anthro courses under my belt. Some individuals were admitted as undecided last year, so that’s something to think about as well. That’s yet another thing I learned about a little too late. I basically wasted the 1st choice slot the first time I tried to transfer since all transfers can be considered for undecided anyway if USC really thinks you’re the right fit for USC.
@zettasyntax Do you know if having a major in Dornsife as your second choice would be considered if your first choice is in a different department?
Hey guys is there a high acceptance for people who got SGR’s?
@dunnowheretogo I also applied to Keck and have heard no information on when decisions might come out. Does anyone have any idea?
I’m so confused. I applied to USC as a polisci major from a CC and I will be a junior at USC. how come people are hearing back? I thought we hear back anytime in may. Does anyone know how release of decisions works at usc? I already got into berkeley but I love USC and need to know asap
@Heisenberg15 Like if Marshall was your first choice and Dornsife was your second? That’s totally fine. A lot of people do something like that. They apply for business/Marshall and put something like econ/Dornsife. Viterbi seems to be exception. They have to be your first choice.
@anxiousgrl USC doesn’t really have a set deadline. They aim to notify (most) applicants with some type of decision by May 31st. It would be great if they had one set day where they tell everyone if they were accepted, rejected, or got an SGR, but that’s not how they operate. There might be a trickle here and there, but late April is historically when things start to pick up steam and lots of decisions start to roll in. The first time I applied, I got an SGR on April 23rd. The second time I applied, I got an acceptance on June 6th. Two different cycles, two drastically different dates. That’s why it can be so difficult when there’s so much waiting. There’s usually a bloodbath and lots of rejections around the last day or so and it’s not something I look forward to on here
@erina19 No I am currently taking Calc 2. And I got a B in Calc 1 last fall.
hey everyone, I’m wondering if anyone can shed some light on this or if anyone is facing something similar. I just checked my USC portal and it says awaiting spring request grades but I have not gotten any emails from USC requesting my grades. It only shows up under my transcripts on my portal and says that they are awaiting SGR. Is this happening to anyone else?
Thanks,
@tahamojo that means u got an SGR, i got the email a few hours later i checked portal.
