On a different note, I’ve seen a lot of theories behind SGRs and what they mean so let’s nip this in the bud once and for all. This is a direct quote taken from the USC website:
“Very often, we are asked if a request for spring grades is simply a precursor to an offer of admission. If you receive a request for spring grades, it is because we do not yet have enough information to make a decision either way. Admission to USC is competitive and not just a matter of checking off boxes. While academic performance is the focus of our review, we are also looking at your writing, reviewing your academic department supplements, and assessing your fit with the selected majors. How you perform in the spring will help us make our final call, but spring grades do not dictate our decision-making process.”
Rejected at UCLA(with TAP idk how), waitlisted at Cal. Now waiting on USC. Does anyone know the protocol of changing majors at USC? I have discovered a subset of my major within this semester and winter that I have fallen in love with. They seem to have somewhat similar requirements.
I got accepted UCSD and UIUC with CS.
I really want to get into USC…I applied with CS… somebody know how Viterbi much competitive…?
I’m so nervous when they gonna release the decision…plz god…
Do you think i can get in…? I got rejected from UCB and UCLA…so I don’t think I cannot get in…ugh:(
@Kubell USC says they use a holistic approach to their selections. Like all schools, grades are important at USC but amazing essays, extracurriculars, and LORs are looked at just as carefully.
Last year, I saw several people who had sub 3.4 GPA’s getting accepted because of this-- it is all important. On time same token, I watched as people with 3.9 GPA’s get denied as well.
They are looking at you @Kubell as a person and asking if they want the person to be there. At least that’s what they say.
Hi guys, I’m a freshman at UCI now and just get WGR yesterday. But, I already upload my winter and fall quarter grades before, and now I’m in Spring quarter. My midterm exams would begin at May 5, so should I upload my transcript again today? Or, just waiting to upload my midterm report after taking my midterm exams
I watched a livestream that USC hosted in 2019 on YouTube about transferring and the counselor stated that high school applicants are very different in transfer applicants because there are less requirements. A student in high school who had stellar grades and activities get denied all the time, but a student coming from a cc can get in with that not many extracurriculars because many students have jobs and responsibilities. She also mentioned the average GPA being a 3.7 and it sounded like if you are around that GPA you are pretty good then it comes down to your major, GE’s, essays, activities. So activities seem to be the last thing they look at.
Also, I don’t think they look at your transcript if you will complete 30 units by spring. I’ve heard of people getting 4.0’s in college, but not doing as well in hs and still got in with only a year of CC. (Now these were CC students, don’t know about students who go to universities)
USC is holistic and I noticed that in hs. Your essays do matter because that is how they get to know who you are as an individual. How you answer that Why USC essay shows if you’ve done your research on why you want to go.
Hey guys,
So I got a SGR for USC, and won’t be able to submit my grades until mid-June since that’s when my semester ends.
I got accepted into UCLA, CAL, Davis, and UCSD, and accepted admission to UCLA yesterday, just in-case I don’t get into USC. USC is 1000% my number one, but my question is am I still able to take summer courses at UCLA? I can enroll in summer classes at UCLA now, and if I can do that, I don’t want to wait too long so I can get into classes that I want.
Or, If I end up getting into USC for spring semester instead of fall, could I attend UCLA for just fall semester so I don’t have to take 6 months off?
@lancer92839 im pretty sure once you enroll at ucla and put down your deposit you’re supposed to withdraw all other applications (at least for many schools it’s like that). i highly doubt you can just use ucla for summer and then if you get into usc choose to go there for fall/spring. once you enroll there they expect you to attend until you graduate
hi, i’m currently a freshman planning to transfer. i will have completed at least 30 credits by the I time finish my first year. however, I have not received an SGR yet and I’m worried. are SGRs requested typically by email or do I have to check the portal frequently? should I be worried that I haven’t been asked for an SGR yet? ty
There should be a petition online to have USC release decisions a month early, it needs to be brought to their attention. I don’t understand all the wait, they’re not Berkeley or UCLA to go through a million of apps, seriously it seems like the last school to send a decision, we transfer students are left in the dark, at the end your USC experience depends on how rich you are.
@mill213 I wouldn’t be able to wait until I find out if I got into USC to make the decision to go to UCLA or not because the deadline for UC’s is June 1st. I would rather accept my admission, then not get into USC and not be able to go anywhere.
