@justasadboy Nope! Just part of the college admissions process. I know it’s frustrating, but we can’t really do anything to expedite the process. However, I did get two emails from USC: one was for a transfer credit input tool and another was for the Norman Topping scholarship. I haven’t heard back about my admission decision, and I’m pretty sure neither of those emails indicate anything about it.
Best of luck! If this is your dream school (as it is mine), then the wait would be worth it!
@laka12g oops i did receive one about the transfer credit evaluation I forgot about that one. and I didn’t receive any emails regarding a scholarship? what kind is it/how did you apply for it
@yinhan I don’t know if anyone answered you yet but I definitely think you should let them know! If you can, I’d look for an SCA specific admission counselor’s email because the information is most pertinent to them rather than the general USC admissions committee
My older son is a freshman and is applying as a transfer to enter as a sophomore. He received the SGR which is expected. I am just curious, do some freshman transfer applicants ever get denied without a SGR or is it more typical to only get a decision after admissions receive the spring grades?
Does anyone know how to find the email address of our individual admission counselors? I found who mine is, but there is no contact information in order for me to email him. Help would be greatly appreciated!
@justasadboy this came from my email:
“The purpose of the Fund is to assist students with high financial need and who also demonstrate an extraordinary level of community awareness in their pursuit of higher education at USC. Initiated by a student referendum in 1970, the NTSAF is the only student-initiated, student-funded and primarily student-administered scholarship in the nation. Applicants residing in areas surrounding the University Park and Health Science campuses, in addition to first-generation college students, are given primary consideration in the selection process. Please note, however, that the scholarship is not limited to these populations.
We encourage you to proceed with our application if you feel you meet the following eligibility requirements. You must:
Have applied for USC admission for fall 2020 as a transfer student.
Have high financial need (usually defined as having a need greater than or equal to the cost of tuition — to be determined by the USC Financial Aid Office).
Be eligible for financial aid. To receive financial aid, students must be U.S. citizens or eligible non-citizens.
Demonstrate strong community awareness.
If you are selected as a USC Topping Scholar, the scholarship will be renewable for the duration of your undergraduate career as long you remain in good standing with the Fund. The amount of the NTSAF award is based on your individual USC financial aid package. The average undergraduate award is approximately $5,500 per year. The deadline for transfer applicants to submit the online Topping Scholarship application is June 1, 2020.“
I just checked my portal under the checklist and received an SGR. I still have not gotten the email yet, but I’m not sure if this is a good thing or bad thing. Just really hoping for the best!
Norman Topping info is supposed to be targeted to low income students. Not everyone gets it and some get the email that shouldn’t. Zero relevance on admission. Just think of it as a marketing mailer.
@river65 Absolutely, there are plenty of freshman/soph/jr applicants that will not get an SGR and will just be rejected. And some will be accepted without and SGR. There is not direct correlation between not getting SGR and being rejected or accepted.
@anotherbun We haven’t received word yet. Both in production. I know two other people besides myself that received an interview. I received an email from the admissions department of SCA requesting to see my progress in Spring directly (so, it wasn’t an SGR request). Someone here got the same thing.
I read the previous years’ SCA transfer post, having an interview doesn’t automatically mean that you get accepted in the program. There are people that get accepted without interviews.
@hermit1214 oh okay, thank you! That actually makes me feel slightly better. I was contacted for an interview and he did mention decisions were gonna he made soon, so I was wondering if they actually were made and I should just waiting on my rejection letter lol ?
Thank you!
@hermit1214 it was shorter than I was expected, but it went really well! The professor really spoke highly of my answers and work which was really nice (and kind of surprising).
I work full time along with school so I kind of threw all my eggs into one basket since that’s all I had time for… honestly even if I don’t get in I’m glad they even noticed me to begin with ?
