If it helps anyone else’s anxiety, I got SGR May 2nd last year and got rejected June 20th
@Shwchlorine That really sucks. Sad that you had to go through that and for them to let you know back so late. Do you mind if I ask how your grades were?
@Shwchlorine I agree with grapesoda2, sorry to hear that. If you don’t mind me asking what did your grades look like first and second semester? Also did you apply to be a sophomore transfer?
I had retake 2 classes in my first semester(F-A), will USC calculate F into my overall gap? And will Fs influence my application?
@Oliviaaa201 I don’t know how relevant this is , but I copied it from their site, it states,
“If you repeat a transferable course for which you earned a grade of D+ or lower, both grades will be included in your transfer GPA. If the grade on the first course was a C- or higher, only the first grade is included.” source: https://admission.usc.edu/apply/transfer-students/#/credit-policies
although I don’t know, I’d assume if you had an upward trend that is important… A lot of people mess up their first semester.
If you don’t mind asking you guys, what GPA do you guys have? Also if you guys are on the deans list or president list
@laka12g 3.95 or so, might be a tad higher. I’m on the deans list.
No SGR so far
So, from what I learned from going to the school a billion times over the fall, they looks more heavily at the grades that specifically pertain to your major. If a class isn’t transferable, it basically doesn’t count towards your GPA. My GPA (which mind you I already considered non competitive to begin with) actually got LOWER when we recalculated it. Still, because I still had A’s and high B’s in the classes that I guess mattered more they told me it wasn’t a dealbreaker.
I’m sure this is also bc this is a portfolio based major but hopefully this helps a little.
I can see how courses for your major would be more relevant when deciding admission. However, every college I’ve gotten into this semester used my total gpa as of right now, even if the course wasn’t transferrable. Congrats on your admission.
Do you think it would put me at disadvantage to email the admissions if it would be possible to change my major at this point? I applied for Econ, and want to change to Business, I actually satisfied all the lower division prereqs for Business etc, have a lot of extracurriculars in business, and also recently undertook a Business Development internship so I would have a good reasoning for that request. Or should I try to change it if I get accepted? I would be a Junior when entering USC so it might be hard to change once I’m already there.
If decisions were to come out today does anyone know at what time?
@dood523 normally like 5-7 PST.
does anyone know how likely it is to get a spring grade request? Like do they do it for everyone? or only if you have a good chance?
@collegegrl1109 hello! They don’t do it for everyone, nor is it for a good chance. Often times they just want to see if you have been showing potential, want to confirm your strong college work and if you are in the process of meeting a requirement or a recommended course… they don’t have enough from you information to make a decision. When I applied to transfer when I was freshman, I got a spring grade request because I only had a few college credits to my name (under 30 units). Since the CC I was at ended in mid June, I had to submit it right after and I was super anxious because other CC students were getting acceptances. I then got my acceptance a few weeks later but was a spring admit!
@gabsPL Hello. I would wait until after you are admitted. It doesn’t hurt to try though, emailing the counselors to change your major. I had gotten accepted with my second choice major (in Dornsife) but I wanted communication in Annenberg. So after getting accepted I emailed Annenberg saying that I’m interested in switching majors and they sent me a separate application for it. For you, you’ll have to email Marshall.
Did someone notice that there’s a new link in our portal??
@PotatoButter about the SGR and receiving an email about what USC wants to see from that applicant, I don’t think it’s true? Well perhaps if you’re an engineering major, they want to see if those core classes in math and physics are receiving A’s, etc. I remember when I went in for my TTP appointment I signed an agreement and all they want are A’s and (maybe a few B’s) in those classes. In the end I still got a SGR because of my few credits as a freshman. Overall they just want to see your grade trend as a student, I believe.
@laka12g i havent. what does it say/where is it?
