@grapesoda2 i think they’re referring to the covid link under FAST
Oh wow, new COVID links. puts on overthinking hat WELL clearly it means they want their students to know about the upcoming fall semester and since they put it on my portal, it means they want to keep me updated on the situation WHICH MEANS I am going to be accepted since they want to let a new student know about the fall semester. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk: Overthinking Small Details edition.
@gabsPL I would not email asking to change majors this late in the game. Marshall is much harder to get into and frankly, it makes you come off wishy-washy doing it this late in the game, particuarly as a transfer versus a freshman. Wait until you are admitted for sure. You can email after admitted or just discuss it at orientation.
Not sure if this was the question asked, but just fyi, some will be accepted outright and some will get a “conditional acceptance” based on hitting a certain gpa. It won’t be for a specific class, but overall gpa. It is clear in the acceptance letter. Some will say, “Congratulations you are accepted blah blah blah…this conditional acceptance is contingent on maintaining a 3.0 (or whatever) cummulative gpa”…something like that.
@CADREAMIN so for the conditional acceptance people, if they don’t maintain the given GPA USC will most likely revoke their acceptance? but when they receive the initial acceptance will they still be provided with the same acceptance “treatment” (receive a financial aid package, possibly receive a transfer credit eval, etc.) as others who were accepted under standard conditions?
Yes, it is assumed they will maintain the gpa, so everything else goes as usual. If they don’t maintain gpa, yes it is revoked, but I doubt that happens often - let’s hope not!
Does anyone have the link to the stats and decisions for this year?
@woshua http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-southern-california/2181458-usc-2020-2021-transfer-students-stats-decisions-only.html#latest
@CADREAMIN so say I have a 4.0, maintained it for 1.5 years at my cc. Then this semester, my gpa is most likely going to drop to, say, 3.8-3.9. I feel like I already know the answer (answer: most likely not going to happen), but if it drops to that, will I get my acceptance revoked? The class is for physics and it is HARD, especially online.
now that I read what I wrote again, it sounds really silly but I just gotta ask ya know?
@bean01262020 It wouldn’t happen! I wouldn’t worry. I know people who got a lot worse and did not get their admissions revoked. VERY rare process.
@bean01262020 Oh goodness no you wouldn’t be revoked! (yes it is silly, but I get you want clarification). The conditionals are usually for people admitted with a bit lower or borderline gpa relative to other admits, and they don’t want to see it below 3.0 or 3.2 – there may have been some 3.5’s in there (perhaps engineering), but really there is not that many conditionals. It’s just they have and do come up.
I’m applying to Annenberg from a 4-year out of state public university where it is really difficult to get into a lot of classes so I have only taken three Communications classes (currently taking two more this quarter but I haven’t been asked for an SGR). I’ve finished all the GE’s but do you think they will have less chance of accepting me into Annenberg if I haven’t done a lot of those classes?
Does SGR mean accept?
@choiii No. It means they need your spring grades in order to get to a decision
@anervouswreck in the transfer brochure that USC has to help guide you with what courses to take I’m 99% sure com majors only need to work towards pre reqs because none of the com courses from any other school will transfer over aka they only want you taking your major courses at USC. I applied to Annenberg for com as my second choice major and I’ve also only taken a few actual communication courses but it was more for me to get potential jobs or internships my freshman/sophomore years - none of those classes will transfer if I’m admitted for com
How likely are you to get accepted if you’re a freshman and had a 4.0 after the fall semester, then got an SGR and got a 4.0 in the spring
@anervouswreck Hello, I’m an Annenberg student. As long as you have GEs done you will be fine! A lot of Comm work happens once you’re a junior
@PotatoButter Usually they just say something more general like maintain satisfactory grades/performance or something and that they need more information to make a decision. They normally do not ask about individual classes, but that did happen to me when I got an SGR. I thought it was weird, so I called and the girl I spoke with claimed that she had never seen an SGR like mine. She connected me to my counselor and he said something along the lines of “I need to see your grade in math”. I’d say it’s rather rare for them to ask about specific classes. As others have said, they typically just want to see strong grades overall.
I have a question.
Is it normally a good thing if the assistant admission director of the college you’re applying to (SCA) email you and request to see a screenshot of your current progress for the spring semester and give you a hard deadline for it (So, I guess it wasn’t a typical SGR)?
I’m just wondering coz I’m over-analyzing everything at this point.
Yes, that is a good thing. And I hope you sent it already.
