I received a SGR on 15 April, replied the next day, and my profile was updated on the 17th. On the 24th the line containing SGR/date/status disappeared completely. Around the 28th it reappeared, but ‘Status’ is back to ‘Awaiting’ with a red X.
At what point should I follow up with my admissions counselor? I gave it some time to avoid the appearance I was nagging them right before the potential 1 May notifications, but I’m still concerned heading into next week (4-8 May) when notifications are still possible and my app looks incomplete.
For whatever it’s worth…
I emailed my AC on the 20th with a question unrelated to SGR, application status, etc. - they answered same day but also mentioned my spring grades were in the system. So I know the app portal didn’t accept it then kicked it into cyberspace without a human seeing it.
@xlouise29 It doesn’t surprise me that the people on the panel all had housing (wink wink), as in, they only had people on the panel that had housing.
Not all transfers get housing that’s for sure. Some years hardly any do, other years a few do, some years maybe more get it, but never all. Study abroad influences that too, and we can assume given the covid stuff way less will be doing study abroad this year and will not be vacating their spot. Do not count on housing as a transfer - any year - but particularly this one where they may have to re-engineer things. Use this downtime to get familiar with areas and property managment agencies in the area. And if you get housing, great, but ifnot, you don’t want to be scrambling to figure stuff out.
@zettasyntax Awesome! Thank you for the response. I’m actually only taking 15 units this Spring semester. I took 7 units during my Winter intersession, which is how I’m reaching that 63 unit mark by the end of my Soph year here at PCC. I was just looking at the number of units people applied with and thought mine was way too low for applying as an entering junior.
I think it’s pretty much confirmed that I won’t be receiving a decision until mid-late July. My email from usc regarding my SGR stated, “Specifically, we would like to see the final grades from the most recent spring semester or quarter”, and my spring quarter ends 26 June.
They also stated, “We cannot reach a final decision on your application until your spring grades are received”, which leads me to believe that I won’t be receiving a decision until mid-late July. ?
Does anyone got asked for the 2020-2021 student asset information on April 15th? For financial aid ? Right after the emails with the scholarships were sent.
@laka12g whats the 2020-2021 student asset information?
I haven’t received an SGR or anything yet. But I’ve been seeing that lots of people have already gotten SGR’s and are just waiting to finish their semester. I’m getting a little worried, cause my semester ends mid june so maybe they’d send me an SGR by now? Or maybe I’m just getting a straight decision i have no clue. Is anyone else in this position?
@CADREAMIN Thanks!
I was wondering if you knew if it’s likely to get a SGR when they have already asked you for a WGR? I got a WGR last week so I’m thinking that they are in the middle of reviewing my app…
@xlouise29 i was wondering the same thing!
For me I got my WGR on 27 April, and a SGR on 01 May. I think it depends on your completion of your required courses. For me, I think I received both grade requests because I’m finishing up my math 1b courses this quarter, which is a required for Marshall.
I think you won’t receive a SGR if you already completed your required courses on usc’s transfer planning guide.
hey, do you know what email i can use to get in touch with an admissions counselor? i would really appreciate it. thanks
@beacoupbelle Your admissions counselor is based off the location of your school.
go to: https://admission.usc.edu/find-your-counselor/
and type in your school name. Your counselor’s information will be populated in the window that follows. Mind you, they might not respond, and even if they do, it’ll take some time.
If it is a more general question or a question that the admissions staff can answer you should call (213) 740-1111
If you’re calling to ask when admissions come out they will tell you that you will receive a Spring Grade Request or acceptance/ rejection by May 31st. I hope that helps.
Based on what I have been reading from the threads, people that have gotten requests for WGR or SGR are current freshmen? Is that the case?
I’m a current sophomore and I was just hoping I wouldn’t get it because my spring grades aren’t looking so good
I am a current freshman and I haven’t received an SGR or anything really. I feel like I’m in the dark.
I’m in the same spot right now. I never got a WGR or SGR and I only finish Spring Quarter mid-June. I hope they aren’t expecting for us to wait until we finish up the year because I have a lot of planning I need to do if I don’t get in
If we got our final spring semester grade, do we just upload the screenshot of it on the applicant portal? Or should we send the screenshot to the person in charge as well? If so, what should I say? Should I just say this is my spring grade? Thanks!
I’m also a college freshman and haven’t received an SGR or any update etc but since I have good grades I’m going to assume it doesn’t mean anything great or bad
There is a point in this process where the waiting turns to madness (we are there) and posters on cc look for patterns in others or events that happened for other applicants, then use it to a fault to guess their future and make themselves crazy in the process. (What is your gpa? Did you get an SGR? Why didn’t I get an SGR? Did your portal change? Did they release this day last year, what time? How many credits do you have? Did you call your advisor? Do I have too many credits, too few credits? Do you go to a two year? A four year? Is my cc better? etc, etc, etc.). It is fine if you are just interested, but what you shouldn’t be doing is comparing their situation to your situation and let it pull you down or beat you up on a daily basis. You are unique in stats and background, including demographics like race and geography/location. Then you write an essay no one else could write, pick a major and school applying to, you have classes taken, classes not taken, where they were taken or not taken, if you are TTP, then add the uniqueness of the admissions process - the advisors, and what the committee is looking for that day, at that moment in time, compared to everything they already have or don’t have yet. You can be perfect and still not get in. You can be “flawed” and get in. You may be really interesting to them, or just another applicant based on their needs, not based on who you actually are. They are looking for a unique piece of a puzzle based on the unique puzzle they are building that day, that month, that class year. There are too many variables out of your control to know if you are the piece that fits just right at that moment.
Just saying, don’t get too up or too down based on what you read about others. Use the info to get to know folks, not as a measurement of your “USC worth.” Just keep a positive attitude and hope for the best! Hang in transfers - it takes tooo long to find out, but it’s part of the process. You are all already fantastic people in how supportive you are of each other. Wish you well!
@CADREAMIN Well spoken and much needed. Thank you!
For the people that received a WGR, is it possible to still receive an SGR?
