2020-2021 USC Transfer

@kimnyongan I am a Non-ttp Marshall applicant and I got SGR’d a few weeks ago. If you’re interested, I am a freshmen in college with 38 units completed not including AP credits. I had writ/calc requirement completed in fall and completed 6/8 GEs by end of fall, and am currently taking 2 remaining science requirements.

@Nykooi Thanks for the reply! Can you please answer this: When I was a junior (High School), during summer, I took a stats class at my local community college, I have come to find out that the math requirement for my major at usc also requires that same class. Since I’ve already taken that class does it satisfy the requirement or do I need to take it again at my UC campus this fall?

@DirtyDreb Have you completed calc 2 for Marshall?

@KyawCR7 As long as you use that link and see that it transfers from the community college that you took it at then you have completed the class and don’t need to take it again. If not then you can contact your university and ask. When you use the link just select the community college, then look for the class to make sure it transfers to USC. I’m sure it will transfer to any UC also, especially if you are at a California Community College. CC courses are made for transferring to UCs. To be extra safe you could just ask a counselor at your local community college.

My kid is a potential TTP transfer for the next year. No, we are not in California (although I am a USC alum), we are in Virginia. My daughter will take Calculus 2 (she took AP Calculus BC last year, forgot some of it) at a community college this summer. She will go to Colorado Boulder in the fall, but there she will concentrate on her Aerospace major and two double minors (in case TTP doesn’t work out). Colorado doesn’t require low-division writing course for the degrees in engineering, so this course is not in her schedule for Boulder’s Aerospace. Do you guys have any idea how to choose the substitute for Writ 130 from the community college courses offered in summer, from the CC that doesn’t have articulation agreement with USC? The registration deadlines for summer are right around the corner.

@ElenaParent See if any courses show up from the CC at this website: https://camel2.usc.edu/articagrmt/artic_hist_range.aspx . WRIT 130 is usually the second course in a college composition sequence.

I tried that, thanks. Nope, nothing for that community college. I found a summer course from the nearby George Mason University that will be equivalent to Writ 150, but this is a bit of an overkill… I guess she still can consider it. Thank you!

@kimnyongan I’m a non-ttp Marshall student and was accepted on April 20th, which was a Monday. I know a couple of Marshall non-ttps have received acceptance letters already.

Does anybody know what will happen to the portal if the decision is going to be released soon?

@OJJJJJJJJBK decisions will be released by May 31st. You will know when you get an email. Don’t overthink it.

@seabee91 Are you transferring into Marshall as a sophomore or a junior? Also, did you come from a CC in CA? Or a 4-year OOS or in-state? Thanks.

If the equivalent writing is not offered at her institution, then email her counselor (they probably already know). Sometimes if it is not offered then you do not have to take it until you get there.

@SlackJack006 I’m transferring as a junior from a community college in California.

It is probably offered, it is simply not required for the major she is in (not required for Colorado Aerospace). And she is trying to follow a rigorous schedule to be able to do her major plus two minors, so she is not looking forward to take a class that’s not required (during her freshman year, 2020-2021, at Colorado). She is still in high school - but she already got her schedule for the four years at Colorado figured out, just in case her TTP will not work out. She doesn’t want to “kill” Colorado before she knows she is in as a TTP sophomore transfer, sometime around this time in 2021.

Btw, what counselor do you suggest she e-mails, and why would that counselor know anything at this point? The counselor doesn’t even know she exists, yet. The TTP appointments for a talk with the counselor will be opened for sign up on May 7th. The TTP counseling itself will happen in July. By then, she will either have taken the substitute class for writing 130, or she didn’t. It will be late - she is considering taking it in summer, not during here academic year…

Hey, Guys, I am applying to USC and super curious about how competitive I am as an applicant.

I just received my SGR and will be sending it in once this is quarter is over. I applied to Dornslife Social-Psych
I will have completed 34 Units, 40 by end summer 3.91 GPA TTP, and all requirements will be done except ENGL 2 which I am finishing in summer.
Let me know if you guys think I have a chance

Does anybody know whether the date you receive your notification depends on the location of the college you currently attend or if its based on what major/school you’re applying for?
Also, has anybody received an SGR or decision on a day besides Wednesday and Friday?
btw thanks to @seabee91 @dirtydreb @dood523 for their previous replies!

Has anyone gotten a hold of the admissions counselor that represents your area? I’ve emailed mine twice and have gotten no response. Do they get back to students or should I just email the general admissions office?

@ElenaParent Hi there and SKO Buffs! I just finished my sophomore year at CU - Boulder as a Computer Science major. The counselor I’ve been reaching out to is specific to Boulder, Colorado (you can find her by typing “Boulder” on this website: https://admission.usc.edu/find-your-counselor/), despite being an out-of-state student. I had a similar issue with the writing requirement; my major only enables juniors and seniors to take a writing courses. When I reached out to my USC advisor, she told me it wasn’t a problem and I could take them once at USC, if admitted. My first two years focused on the calc-based physics, calculus, linear algebra, and a bunch of computer science courses (even upper division CS courses). I took some GEs too, but if you check out the Viterbi transfer page, GEs are optional, and you may choose to take a math/science course instead, which can be found stated in “Step 1”. If you haven’t already, I would find the “articulation agreement” page on the Viterbi transfer webpage, choose “Univ Colorado Boulder”. There you will find courses that do transfer to USC for credit, and those that do not. I tried taking courses that would transfer to USC, but would also keep me on track at Boulder, especially since Boulder dives you straight into the core engineering courses as early as freshman year.

All this information is from my experiences so far and a taste on what you may learn from the TTP Counseling in July. Hope this helped a little, and good luck!

@sunnywithachance I was in touch with mine. I found her info. and e-mailed her and I think she took quite a while to get back to me, but she eventually did. Then a month or so later, she e-mailed me to ask me a question about my transcripts, completely unrelated to why I contacted her the first time.

@kimnyongan I received my SGR like two weeks ago on a Tuesday around 3pm
