2020-2021 USC Transfer

@grapesoda2 yes SMU in Dallas. Did you get accepted?

Also, I just want to provide some feedbacks with the Marshall pre-reqs.

The only required (must be done) class is MATH 118 or Business Calculus. The writing class is not required but highly recommended. I got in without taking WRIT 150 equivalence and I am taking it this summer.

Regarding to accounting courses, you can get in even without Financial Accounting, however, it will make you more competitive for admission if you have completed (or in process) both Financial and Managerial Accounting.

As for GPA, a 3.7 or above will place you to be “desirable” for Marshall admission. Of course, the higher the better.

But also, GPA is not everything. This semester at USC, I made a friend who transferred from a CC and got into both UCB HAAS and USC Marshall with a 3.6.

There are tons of applicants who get rejected every year with 4.0 or nearly 4.0. There are also tons who get in with a lower GPA such as 3.5.

Corrections on the 3 Scenarios :

If you get a SGR anytime in May and upload your spring grades, you will likely hear back by 5/31 but still possible to hear back in June (more likely) and July (less likely).

If you don’t get a SGR anytime in May, but still upload your spring grades in May (the earlier you upload them the better), you will most likely get an acceptance or rejection by 5/31.

If you don’t get a SGR anytime in May, and cannot upload you spring grades in May, you will get an acceptance, rejection, or a SGR by 5/31.

@millerman63 yes! im waiting to see what type of aid they will give.

@grapesoda2 Same here. If you have above a 3.5 with 50 units its possible to get half tuition. Have you visited ? Lets stay in touch.

Good luck

@millerman63 sounds good. I did get the half off price, but income is pretty low so I’m trying to see various prices. So far the best aid I’ve had offered was from LMU. (maybe due to being poor or perhaps due to massive amounts of volunteer hours, I’m unsure)

@Nazarzzzz @millerman63 did you guys commit to LMU already then? Or did you get admitted at a later time than early action? Because I also was admitted to LMU but had to decline my offer because my financial aid sucked and I had to notify them by May 1st.

@TransferGuy08 I believe I have until June 1st to accept. I was notified fairly late, and I didn’t do early action. Was your EFC low ? I think it goes by how much you need vs merit so much. (although I got some merit)

@grapesoda2 maybe it is just because I did early action then. My EFC was around 6000. So I got a transfer merit scholarship, a phi theta kappa scholarship, and an LMU grant but still would’ve had to pay around $55K per year… I got a lot of money off from UW-Madison so if I don’t get into USC then I’ll probs go there. Also congrats on getting accepted because I heard that this year LMU’s transfer class was the most competitive in its history of transfer apps. (roughly 3,000 applications to fill 450 spots. 15% acceptance rate.)

@TransferGuy08 thank you! wow I had no idea, where did you hear that?

One of the admissions counselors mentioned it during a virtual preview day. Here’s the link

She says it at minute 2 of the video

@TransferGuy08 June 1st is the deadline for me to commit to LMU, so I’m waiting on USC, but if they do not give me a decision by the end of may I’m just gonna commit to LMU!

@Nazarzzzz Im in the same situation, first time commenting on this forum but been following for a while. I applied last year to USC as a sophomore transfer, got SGR late april and rejected mid july. Haven’t heard anything back yet.

@mikey2304 Aw sorry that sucks! it’s so annoying waiting since I want to start planning ahead like applying for housing and stuff. Did you apply to any other schools?

@Nazarzzzz I applied to Occidental and got rejected the other day, still waiting to hear back from NYU and Vanderbilt. But I’m grateful to have gotten into LMU, my GPA is not that great compared to most applicants to all of these schools but I think I make up for it with the other aspects of my application. So it’s not just USC that’s taking a while to respond.

wow! didn’t realize how competitive LMU really was this year. within this transfer season, i got into northeastern, boston uni, & lmu! got waitlisted @ boston college…

just waiting for usc and udub now… literally both my one and two options! ahhhh

I’m deciding between UCI, LMU, or BU business school if I don’t get into USC

I think I have until June 1st to make the decision.

I got a mail from USC today to send the English proficiency test score.
