2020-2021 USC Transfer

Sorry, a little new to this forum, but I have been seeing a lot about uploading your spring grades and I was wondering how you would do that? Do I have to send in an official transcript? I haven’t received an SGR yet, but I just wanted to do it if it could help.

https://admissionblog.usc.edu/7387-2/ i looked at this admission blog and it explains “It is very common for us to request spring grades from students who are in their first year of college.” so i’m assuming theres a lot of first years trying to transfer here in this forum because I did not receive one as well and it’s not an implication of your admission decision.

@nervoussenior12356 I am planning on doing the same later this week when I get my official grades. I’m sending an official transcript electronically and also uploading a pdf of my unofficial transcript into the portal in case of any delays.

@mill213 Thank you! I’m just so nervous

What qualifies as an unofficial pdf of your transcripts? Would a screenshot of transcripts from your college’s portal work?

Hi, this is my first time adding to this forum. The following is some information I received from my uncle who works at USC. I thought it would genuinely would not be fair if I didn’t share what was going on, although it is ultimately your decision to rely on this information or not.

USC accepted 2,000 more additional freshman students for the fall semester. This is because they falsely assumed that more freshman students were going to deny their acceptance because of financial issues (especially because of the coronavirus and everything going on). Unfortunately, this was not the case. Now, they have an overload of freshman students with very few spots left for transfer students.

I, along with thousands of other applicants, have not received any letter of any sort. We just have to see what happens, but I’m hoping for the best (??)

The incoming freshman class is the class of 2024 though. How would they affect the transfers who are in the 2022 and 2023 graduating class? I’m not sure how they directly are affected, if at all. Besides maybe housing.

@kaialovesturtles Nobody here is applying for the class of 2024. Transferring into the class of 2024 will be harder for the next wave of transfers, but each class has a separate capacity limit. Freshmen who will fill up GEs have no effect on transfers who will take major-related classes.

True, but there is always going to be a maximum capacity of students (whether that be the class of 20,22,23,24). I just think it makes sense that, in the case that they did accept too many students, that there is going to be a cut somewhere. I am just hoping for the best, but who knows!

Oh wow, I actually have a parent who works at USC who informed me of the same information. Hopefully decisions will come out soon, this anxiety sucks.

I know getting a SGR is not indicative of whether or not you will be accepted, but are there any other junior transfers who got a SGR and feel hopeless right now? Not to be a negative nancy but my other schools waitlisted me so I feel like this process is never ending and I feel like USC is just delaying my rejection? I have over 80 units as a third year with almost all As and I’m confused on why they even asked me for a SGR if they already know my history, and combined with this new information it just seems like they’re stalling which if that’s true is really messed up. Any other high unit juniors here who got an SGR that feel the same way?

@subwooferlullaby For me, there is an option on my current school portal in which I can download my unofficial transcript (PDF form) and upload it to the transfer portal.

@bettycharlie010 do you know if it will affect transfers for the class of 2023/22 or if it will mostly affect transfers for next year’s cycle trying to get into the class of 2024?

Wow, that’s a bummer about accepting too many freshman. I really hope it doesn’t affect transfers because I’ve finished all of my GE’s and I just have major classes left. I hope we all hear back soon!!

Even if the overload of freshmen might not effect transfer spots, USC will make sure they wont overload on transfers as they now know applicants are willing to commit even during this financial crisis.

Not sure about the idea that transfers will be negatively impacted this year because USC has already accepted more incoming freshmen who appealed their initial rejection. If USC ended up with too many freshmen as a result of initially accepting 2,000 more applicants and were unexpectedly overenrolled in that class, why would they then accept any appeals at all from more incoming freshmen? Appeal decisions were just released on Friday and I know from CC of at least a few and probably at least 20-40 overall that were overturned and accepted for both fall and spring.

I’m a freshman transfer and I still haven’t received an SGR or anything. Is this a bad sign?

@justasadboy receiving an SGR is not an indicator of your admission. USC does a wholistic approach to admissions meaning they look at your grades but also your essays, background, and demographic. So if you have not received an SGR like many applicants, don’t sweat it.

The overload of freshmen shouldn’t affect transfers bc some current students won’t be returning to usc and some pay the deposits but change their mind last minute about attending. I suppose the offset will balance out.

Do u guys think this will be a big week? I saw someone mention earlier in the thread that this has been a big week for transfer admissions one the past.
