2020 AP Problems, come one come all!

Great work around idea @1Lotus ! I know for my daughter’s school, she’ll have to take a language placement exam to bypass the school’s language requirement. Perhaps a placement test and permission from the language department chair would suffice for other schools, given the limited and inadequate options CB has provided. The main idea here is that students satisfy the language requirement, not proving it via a single metric. No data, use reason instead.

Just saw today that the UC’s are suspending use of the ACT/SAT through 2024 and will attempt to develop their own testing standard in the interim. Well timed UC’s, well timed!

Thanks @fencingmom

Great suggestion. I am going to take your advice, if my retake fails again. I know Tufts does offer placement tests. Juts not sure how everything will work due to Covid and being on campus etc.

just got this email from college board

When you completed your AP Italian Language and Culture Exam, you did not see the “Your recording has been uploaded” page.

The good news is that your recordings were successfully transmitted to us, so your AP Italian Language and Culture Exam is now complete and you don’t need to take a makeup exam for this reason. We apologize for any confusion this situation may have caused.

@Luckyjade2024

Was there actually a “your recording has been uploaded” page that you didn’t see, or is College Board once again blaming students for their mistakes?

@Luckyjade2024 Thank you for this good news! Meravigliosa!

My screen went blank and crashed…so I was pleasantly shocked at this email.

@Luckyjade2024 : This is such great news! So happy for you…and hope your story is repeated in the many homes of others who had that same problem.

My son had issues submitting his response to the second part of the Physics 1 test. He signed up for the retake. His MyAP account indicates that he has the Physics 1 makeup test on June 2, but he has not received an email from College Board informing him of this. Are people receiving emails confirming they’ve been allowed to retake? Can I assume that because this makeup exam now shows up on his calendar that he has been allowed to retake even though he has not received a confirming email?

I would assume so, yes.

DD is sort of in a similar situation. She is enrolled in a college class starting Monday that moved online due to the pandemic. No one at the college has reached out to explain how to access the class, despite emails to the registrar’s office, to the professor, and to tech support at the college. So you have my understanding and sympathy. Communication has seemingly gone down the toilet lately.

@MorseLewis My son’s notification went to spam. The email they’re sending from is not a college board email. It started with a Q, I don’t remember the actual address.

@havenoidea and @Waiting2exhale, my kid had the same issues with the AP Physics C exam. It really shook my kid’s confidence knowing that the truncated test would be more conceptual than math-based. I think the lack of multiple choice questions also skews the results because the multiple choice can act as a kind of buffer if you blank on one of the FRQs. Who knows how they did? They will wait and cross their fingers.

I especially feel bad for those taking the world language tests. Once again, not having any multiple choice skews the test to those who have the strongest speaking ability. Given our US system of language acquisition, speaking is likely the weakest skill of most US students.

@MorseLewis My D20 received a “Makeup Testing Approval” email directly from the College Board – even though she did not request a makeup at any time. She will not be retaking it but odd they made such a point of students needing to request a makeup within a 48 hour time period and then we receive one without a request. Just illustrates the total chaos they are churning through over there.

I’ve since asked for a refund for the two tests that were unsuccessful through my D20’s high school. I think the way it worked, at least for my D20’s school, was that we paid them and they pay CB (probably taking a cut for proctoring the tests). In any case, the school said it would rectify my account after which the school will take up the credit owed to them directly with CB. Such a mess!

I’ve not heard a peep from CB yet but when I called at the beginning of the week I was told that my case number was currently being reviewed at the highest level of escalation after which I envisioned a squat man behind a green curtain pulling a lot of levers, laughed and hung up.

My D20 did get an email today (not sure who sent it) stating that she is to retake both the Physics and the Calc BC tests on Monday. She is relieved that she received notification and still a bit annoyed that her original tests wouldn’t go through. Her official last day of high school was today, so this just draws out the agony . . .

How do I add an emoji here???!!!
