Good luck everyone, wish y’all the best! Curious to see who’ll get lucky in what seems to be de facto a crapshoot for most of us…
@angeldiaz I’m from a CC! Not a vet, I’m a mom, and a mathematics major with mostly math-related ECs
@angeldiaz I’m also from a CC. Not a vet, but still non-traditional. Returning to school after a while.
@SatanFlower69 I believe in us! we got this
@mathymagee @@SatanFlower69 @snakejyder. CC squad
@angeldiaz For a second I read the “we got this” as “I got in” and my heart skipped a beat. Lol!
Heyya, hope everbody is doing well, and thx to those who answered my question from a few days ago:D
I don’t want to bother anyone with my ignorance, yet I was wondering how much of a decisive factor the financial situation of an international applicant is. Do we have any indication of that??
I genuinely didn’t think Stanford would hold your financial need against you- my own fault for assuming that they are need-blind, I guess. Right now, I am thinking I might be disregarded due to my financial hardship, which feels **t. I wonder whether I should have lied about my financial status, though the 30k my household makes really wouldn’t be enough to support a Stanford education… (btw would it make a difference if an international needed *less financial aid?)
Anyway, I hope you are all doing well and that your path will take you to the institution you’ll be happy at^^
Hey everyone,
@DriFit I am kinda wondering about the whole finance thing as well and how much that factor will play a role in admissions this year. I wonder though how Stanford will see how much our household income is, since it was not a question on the common application. Is there another way for them to check that info?
@stanfordgirl2020 they can view that information through FAFSA and CSS if you applied for aid. I had to upload a 2018 tax return and W2s for Stanford through CSS.
I didn’t even know I had to do the CSS until two weeks ago… I don’t really understand why we have to do that if we do FAFSA.
@snakejyder honestly I was annoyed by it, especially since I had to pay for it. But certain universities require it for their aid review. I believe FAFSA covers federal aid but CSS is taken into account for school specific aid. I think…
I felt like the FAFSA and CSS both answered the same exact questions… just one of them you had to pay to do ? I think it’s a College Board collusion conspiracy
Ahhh I’ve been getting so nervous waiting for decisions to come out that I’ve been reading my application over and over again! Do you guys think that there were more or less applicants this application cycle, given the circumstances that arose this year?
@stanfordgirl2020 It’s hard to say, but I feel like it would’ve been slightly less as some people would’ve elected to just stay at their universities for now. Don’t get too hooked on it, the decisions have most likely already been made and if you’re going to get in, you’ve already gotten in. Just relax for the next few days until they come out, study hard for midterms.
Expecting slight decrease in # of (transfer) applicants, applications were due just as the pandemic started hitting.
Some factors to consider:
- Travel/xenophobia → international students yield down
- Financial difficulties exacerbated → low-income students yield down
- Remote education is questionable, most of value of T1 colleges are in people/cxns → is it worth going?
- Even if committed, timing right now is suboptimal → many gap years likely
- notwithstanding the (reported) 3x admissions rate boost by Stanford to diversify the transfer population. Bottom line is that I'm guessing many people who normally would not have gotten in will be accepted (not a good/bad thing by itself).
^^^ !! yeee
It tends to be much harder to get in as an international student if you request financial aid than if you don’t, by a factor of 5+. This tendency to avoid low-income internationals will be exacerbated by the gargantuan budget deficit of $200 mi the university will run this year as fallout of the pandemic. Rule of thumb is to never apply for aid if you’re international, unless you’re so exceptional and sui generis that the adcoms won’t be able to say no to you in good conscience
Stanford has traditionally posted the date and time of the release of decisions on the Stanford Admission’s Twitter (@EngageStanford) anywhere from 2 days to 2 hours before hand. I set up an alert to notify me when that account posts a tweet and have been otherwise just trying to enjoy myself.
I know everyone really wants to get it, but trust me, the name of your undergrad matters a lot less than you think it does if you just keep working hard towards your career goals. Good luck everyone!
@EventualPhD I wish!
@Amatheras Well, that is certainly not the answer I hoped for? Thx for the reply though, guess I should just be (even more) mentally prepared for a rejection.
