@DriFit You never know, you might get the golden ticket against all odds… I wish you success. No college in the US is truly need-blind to international applicants. Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Amherst and MIT are de jure need-blind, but in practice they do consider your ability to pay, just not nearly as much as places like Stanford, which are need-aware for non-US citizens
Dude, I’m international too and I think we all better be psychologically prepared for a “I’m sorry to inform you that blah blah blah” type of letter. stanford admitted 4 international transfers in 2018 according to my friend. Supposing that the international/US citizen ratio stays the same… that’s like 12 international admits this year, which isn’t that bad, but still a tall order
Tbf if the ratio stayed the same then that would be benificial for internationals, because it is likely that there are many international applicants who were scared off applying or withdrew due to the current crisis.
However, Stanford might just take in less international students relative to the number of admitted students.
Btw did you apply for aid @Amatheras ? And are you currently at a US institution or are you studying overseas? It’d actually be interesting to know whether that factors into the decision too, as that could decrease my odds even further haha
And yh, we really should prepare for the sentence we don’t want to hear. At the end of the day, we did all we could, so there is no reason to plunge into sadness.
Yo, whats the max # of “Achievements” you can add to the transfer common app.
Also, whats the max number of “Activities” one can add?
The decision date has been changed to May 8 on their website.
ITS GETTING REAL!!! Good luck everyone!! Don’t forget to post stats with your decision tomorrow!
@DriFit I’m a citizen of Brazil, but I’m studying at a CC in Los Altos Hills, fewer than 5 miles away from Stanford. My school usually sends 3-5 transfer students to Stanford every year (over 10% of all transfers), but none have been international in the last few years… I did not apply for financial aid.
@qubitqween you can add as many experiences and awards as you want in the transfer application, since there are no limits (unlike the common app for freshmen)
Tomorrow at 4pm PST. The wait between now and then is going to be so long and EXCRUCIATING!!
@snakejyder The more you worry about it, the harder it’s going to get. Sit back and relax, I’d say don’t even sit there at 3:55 waiting for it, check a few minutes after they come out.
Fortunately I have Berkeley and UCLA to fall back on if this doesn’t pan out, but Stanford… Stanford is special; I’m having dreams about the farm (and nightmares, too!). The suspense… is killing me softly hahahaha
@Amatheras Same, I have Brown to fall back on…but the suspense is killing me too!!
t minus 18 hours and 37 minutes
The wait is almost over. Good luck everyone!
Good luck!
Random question, do you go to Foothill? I am currently a first year there and i’m interested in transferring to Stanford, but after talking to my counselor i’m not so sure it’s even worth trying.
@bobalife @Amatheras - Foothill College? I’m an international student there too
@bobalife HAHa thats what my counselor at Foothill said too, but apply you know, transfer is not only about academics and extra-curricular, its also 1% luck, if you don’t apply now, you’ll never know if you were worthy enough for Stanford or not and it’s gonna eat you out for your entire life. So apply! You’ve got nothing to lose (apart from $80 lollll)
just wanted to tell everyone goodluck! Its a good day regardless of whatever decision we receive. Just look at us, the fact that we even applied means that we are well qualified. Goodluck everyone!
@amethyst2020pp @bobalife Yes, this is my last quarter at foothill. Please beware that counselors there are clueless and everything they say should be taken not with a grain of salt, but with the whole salar de uyuni (eg they told my friend she’d never get accepted and was wasting her time and money, guess what she got in.)
Now, Is it a waste of time to apply as a transfer? Well, If your profile is conventional/typical AND you’re not applying from a peer institution with a very good reason to transfer, then yes, it’s pretty much a waste of time. The folks I know from foothill who got in all had interesting/unusual backgrounds
A stanford admissions officer gave a workshop about transfer admissions during last year’s Bay Honors Research symposium and told me that adcoms specifically look for “certain populations” (non trads, veterans, people with unusual backgrounds/interesting life experiences, cc students etc) whose “voices” they want on campus… I’m non-trad, grew up in a chicken/horse farm in southern brazil, served in the brazilian military, learned english on my own and worked for several years to pay for my education here in california (among a bunch of other things…), so i thought my profile could intrigue them and decided to apply just for the heck of it. My stats are all within range, now let’s see if the committee deems me compelling enough–that’s the tough part, IMO. We’ll find out in 8 hours.
