2020 Fall Transfer Stanford

@RejectionMan from multiple people on this thread – apparently they are admitting at least 75 transfers this year

wow that seems like quite a lot for Stanford

When do decisions come out?

@cusnew On their website it says they will release by May 15th. Looking at the thread from last year, they released their decisions on May 8th.

Thanks! @snakejyder

1 month remaining! :open_mouth:

Hello everyone! Thought I’d post my stats. I know I’m not the strongest candidate, and considering I’m a community college student, I’m not getting my hopes up too much. Just applied mainly for my own peace of mind

I’m currently a second year student at a CC in California

GPA: 3.9, 4.0 for my major.
MAJOR: English
Extracurriculars:
-an internship at the California State Capitol
-2 Student Assistant positions, both for the state.
-Scholarship for “Women in Leadership”
-Dean’s list for three terms
-I had some volunteer experience too.
Personal Statements/ Insight questions: I’d say they were really good. , I kind of needed them to be good, especially since I’m applying as an english major!
Applied for Financial Aid?: yes
State (if domestic applicant): CA

SAT/ACT: not good. ACT was 30, can’t remember SAT off the top of my head

Random info: I am a low-income, first gen student. I applied to Stanford, UCB, and UCLA.

Chance me if you’d like!

Hi @rt0784 you have some great extracurriculars! I am also a second year CC student and am non-traditional (27, returning to school). I am hoping that they don’t take the CC aspect into consideration as much as everything else, but I have a feeling that they do. There seems to be a lot of strong candidates that are trying to transfer from great four-year schools, so I could see that definitely having an impact on our own chances. If anyone has any insight into this for us, that’d be super helpful!

sorry guys, I posted on the wrong thread

@malkovsky Stanford does not interview transfer applicants. I checked transfer threads from past years and that seems to be the general consensus. Also, even if they do, not getting an interview is not the end of the world! I remember a girl from high school who did not get an interview to Stanford but got in and is currently attending. Best of luck to you.

Idk why this thread is so inactive but is anyone else excited to get their decisions in less than 30 days!

Our odds are about 1-2%, that doesn’t exactly inspire feelings of excitement lol But Im glad this admissions ordeal is nearly over.

I heard they might accept more people this year

did you by any chance hear that somewhere other than on college confidential?

The Yale and Harvard threads are more active than this and they admit the same number or less lol

If https://news.stanford.edu/2017/11/01/small-mighty-cohort-transfer-students-joins-stanford-community/ (from 2017) reflects current priorities, that may be favorable to you.

Stanford Release Dates in the past 5 years:

2019 - 05/08 (Wed) 4pm PST 7pm EST
2018 - 05/09 (Wed) 5pm PST 8pm EST
2017 - 05/10 (Wed) 5pm PST 8om EST
2016 - 05/06 (Fri) 3pm PST 6pm EST
2015 -05/08 (Fri) 3pm PST 6pm EST

If the tradition holds true we should be getting it on May 5th or 8th but due to the current circumstances we may have to wait till the 13th or 15th.

@ucbalumnus thanks for sharing that! It’s pretty incredible how diverse and accomplished each transfer class seems to be.

@SatanFlower69 feel you on that. Hard to get excited for something that seems so out of reach but feeling the relief that it is almost over! I applied to Stanford as a reach so I won’t be terribly disappointed if I don’t get in, but wow how amazing it would be if we did!

does anyone know how much of a factor the questions/personal statements has in admission to Stanford? I have a good GPA, horrible ACT/SAT scores, but pretty good essays. I’m just so nervous, I don’t know what to expect!

@rt0784 Honestly the questions probably have the most effect on your application. Most of the candidates are coming in with roughly similar GPAs and ACT/SAT scores, so awards and essays matter the most. They want to see and feel who you are, what makes you tick, what you’ve been through in life.
