2020 Fall Transfer Stanford

I can’t wait this long tbh. honestly, if I get in I’m gonna die. my essays are hopefully what makes my application shine along with ec, gpa, and other things.

Got into Berkeley yesterday so I am halfway to being a Stanford reject!

Congrats on Berkeley! @snakejyder

Hey everyone. I lingered the Stanford 2018 Freshman Applicant sub when I was first applying. This time around, making an account seemed like a better option. Not the best stats or extracurriculars, but I am now at least slightly more mature, and couldn’t have been any prouder. Here goes:

College GPA - 4.0 (Majoring in Mathematics and Economics)
ACT - 32 (Taken senior year of high school)
Extracurriculars - Secured a summer internship at a large insurance company in Charlotte, NC.

President of the Actuary (it’s an insurance-related field) Club - Added over 30 members and, through working with multiple different tutoring companies, saved our members thousands of dollars in study material expenses. I also worked with our CS department to conduct weekly computer programming classes for the students interested. I have been involved with the club almost since its inception, and how we have been able to cultivate great personal and professional relationships has been my best achievement.

Dean’s List - All semesters

(Personally, I feel I would suffer from the lack of more participation)

Background - Very unique, openly writing about it for the first time. I grew up in a lower-middle-class, violent Indian household with an absolutely dominant father. Somehow, we were able to get a permanent residence in the USA when I was 11. However, we couldn’t leave since both my folks were pretty old by then. My parents saw potential in me, and so when I was 16, I was sent to this country w/o my parents. I completed my senior year of high school living with one of my relatives who essentially abused me. Her treatment left me weighing 105 lbs at the age of 17, going into college. My parents paid for my “expenses” while unbeknownst to them, she was just kinda committing fraud. That’s when I first applied, knowing the only way to better myself is to get out of there.

Since then, I have improved myself in many facets of life, and now at 19, not having seen my folks for just under three years, I am finally optimistic about life.

Reason - Growing up, the name of Stanford paralleled excellence, and that’s why I applied my freshman year. After rejection from almost everywhere, I oriented my life towards the “greater than life” phrase my great-granddad used to throw around. My childhood house was five-hundred yards from a colony of “untouchables,” a lower-caste group in India. All in all, they lacked every facility that even the third-world consider essential. Yet, as a 10-11-year-old, when I used to interact with them, there were no bounds to their imagination, as if in a heap of poverty, they had the glimmer of hope. They still live there, and even though their dreams might be gone, I can help the next generation. This time around, I have found a great purpose, and I feel that merely the name of Stanford would enable me to pursue it to a greater extent.
(Also, being my complexion doesn’t help me in the school I’m now in in the South, a greater diversity would be fantastic.)

@cusnew Thank you! Feeling relieved that’s for sure

@snakejyder lol same here! I’m happy with going to UCB, but I’m definitely anxious to see about Stanford. Congrats :slight_smile:

@rt0784 And congrats to you! Definitely sharing that feeling… very fortunate to have an amazing option in UCB, but can’t ignore Stanford ?

Congrats on all the UCB acceptances! I would’ve definitely applied there but I am in kind of an unconventional spot. If I had applied now, I would’ve been slightly below the required number of units but if I apply in the next admissions cycle, I will be slightly above the maximum number of units. I emailed them and they basically told me “tough luck.”

How many college credits units can be transferred from CCC to Stanford University after admission? 45 quarter units or 90 quarter units?

@duola 90 units

Thanks, but what this means?

Transfer Credit
The following information is intended to offer clarification of university academic policies related to transfer credit. For official wording of Stanford’s academic policies, refer to Stanford Bulletin: Academic Policies and Statements.

Overview
Students can transfer up to 45 units of credit from another institution toward their Stanford degree with approval. This applies to both transfer students and students seeking pre-approval for courses they anticipate taking during summer or a leave of absence.

Hey, I dont think im getting in, but typing here gives me some catharsis so, hey everyone.

@duola

“No more than 45 (90 for transfer students) quarter units of credit for work done elsewhere may be counted toward a bachelor’s degree at Stanford.”

@zigwammy don’t be so negative lol, you never know.

@rt0784 HI, have you accepted UCB’ offer? Stanford decision comes very late and acceptance rate is so low.

Hi everyone! I’m a bit late to the thread but I’m just another cc student with low expectations and high hopes. Good luck everyone, the next few weeks will be exciting!

SIR for Berkeley isn’t until June 1, I believe Stanford releases decisions May 8 (don’t quote me on that) so there is plenty of time to wait for Stanford’s decision before committing to UCB-- which I will likely be doing :wink:

@duola I’m waiting to hear back from UCLA as well! I also would love to wait for Stanford, but I really do love Cal and I would love to get a head start on the housing application and whatnot. But, most likely, I am going to accept my offer for Berkeley sometime next week.

@izzycoop1 @rt0784 Stanford decision release date is by May 15th. Do you know how many credit units can be transferred at Stanford?

Also waiting on UCLA. I don’t have anything to lose to wait on Stanford but like you, I think it’s looking like Cal for me! I’m ready to commit haha
