2021-2022 USC Transfer

I am thinking about doing this

yes. i’m honestly pretty pissed that i was rejected given that i thought i had a super solid app. one of my friends who has a 4.0 at a 4 year and was rejected is also looking at appealing. from our conversations, we’ve concluded that 4-year transfers perhaps weren’t prioritized this year due to the large applicant pool and yield (no shade to cc students, just some speculation on our part). both of us also submitted apps quite close to the deadline and our transcripts came quite a bit later (like march? bc the department that pushes them from each of our four years just takes forever to move). my concern at this point is that they didn’t even review the app and rejected me due to the fact that the class had already been filled. of course, this is all just speculation so take what i have to say with a grain of salt.

Does anyone know how much I should pay for a studio apartment around USC?

Same here. I had a very good GPA, I built my entire schedule around USC’s articulation histories (so all of my classes were transferrable for course equivalency), I thought my essays were solid, but still rejected. I’m coming from a four-year university as well. They didn’t even upload my transcript into the system until the end of April. I changed my major on my application halfway through my spring semester and I submitted brand new essays to talk about my new goals. A part of me feels like they didn’t take this extra document into consideration but idk for sure. I’m just really sad and I can’t even process my rejection. After I get my head straight I’m definitely appealing, the fight isn’t over.

best of luck to both of us! i think 4-year students are often overlooked because of the fact that we can ā€œfall backā€ on our current institutions especially with the pandemic but the action of transferring shows that we want to leave? the more i think about it, the more i believe that either my entire app wasn’t looked at or was overlooked for some reason. (without getting into too much detail, i’ve competed at the national level in an olympic sport and have a clear career path in a business-related field that i’ve actively pursued through extracurriculars and externships). also, i’ve taken classes at a cc to try and transfer to a uc (was rejected to those too, but i was told they legally aren’t allowed to look at my app due to some antiquated law) and in terms of content and rigor, they are NOT comparable to those at my four year. no shade to those that took the cc route, but i think for sure that 4 year classes should be weighted significantly against those at a cc just solely based on the fact that 4-year classes are more difficult (ex. financial accounting is 2 quarters at a cc and 1 at my 4-year, with the same content). fight on and let’s do our best to win this appeal!

Thank you for all of your help with everything! Do you (or anyone) know the answer to this? If you had to commit to another school because of their deadline, but now you want to accept USC’s offer - is there an order you’re supposed to follow? Does it matter if you accept usc while technically committed to another school as a transfer?

You’re welcome. First, do you need any financial aid info or anything else before you commit to USC, or all good to go?

The fear of being double committed is valid but is also a carry over from freshman application, so I understand your concern. While you don’t want to be committed to 2 schools for an excessive amount of time - it is certainly ok to commit to USC, make sure everything is square for a little bit which could be a couple/few days, then withdraw from your other school. Being committed to 2 schools at the same time is a common occurence for transfers with all the mis-matched deadlines - just be considerate about it. Nothing is going on business wise this holiday weekend at colleges so if you are certain you are committing to USC, go ahead so you can get to the housing app, then pull out of your other one early next week, sometime after the holiday. (Earlier if you want, up to you.)

Make sure you are always in one of the schools - don’t pull out of that school until you know you are set (committed) at USC.

You should. Other transfers have gotten their admittance packets and spring transfers are no different. Well, just the fact that your acceptance letter will say Spring 2022. Other than that though, you get the same red envelope and everything. I think I still have mine somewhere, but it’s not in the best shape, haha. Likely a ~week or more of a wait depending on where you’re at.

Anyone has a group chat for accepted student?

you should get an email that invites you to a facebook group

It really stinks that we all can’t get accepted but I also think that saying your app was overlooked is just denying the fact that USC is competitive. Yes, the acceptance rate is higher for transfer but it’s still ultra hard to get into and never guaranteed. Not everyone can get in and we see that highly qualified candidates sometimes take the L for no apparent reason because lots of applicants are highly qualified. We see this with tons of college decisions. My hope is that those who are rejected find an even better fit for themselves and realize that USC just wasn’t right for them personally. We are all going to find the path that we are meant to go down.

I’ve been trying to post the link for the admitted students discord but for some reason CC isn’t letting me post any links. Anyone know how to fix this issue?

I thought they weren’t sending acceptance packages due to COVID? Have any admitted students in this thread actually gotten theirs?

I know transfers have a low chance of getting housing but if I am going into USC as a sophomore transfer, once I have been at USC for like a full school year, for my junior and senior year at USC will I be more likely to get on campus housing?

No, those not living on campus the year prior can apply, but are at the bottom or priority (meaning they won’t get it). But juniors and seniors don’t usually want to live on campus - you are likely 20 or 21+ and will have met people you want to live with without housing restrictions. You can still get a meal plan if off campus. But let’s hope you get housing this year to experience it, fingers crossed.
